Darkness…
all around.
As Prince Kenius regain consciousness, he opened his eyes to see a foreign room.
Although his vision is still blurry, he could make out a figure standing there.
He could see him noticing that Prince Kenius was awake and was speaking or shouting.
“Ah, I have no idea.
Let me just….
slumber” Prince Kenius thought to himself.
Soon, he heard more commotion and opened his eyes again.
Now, he could see clearly.
Headmaster Mensarius and a few teachers, surrounding him, looking at him and speaking something.
“Ke-…” “Pri…
Ke-…” “Prince” “Your Highness” As he roused out of his sleep, Prince Kenius remarked: “Why are all of you so noisy.
Can’t you see I am resting?” “Uncle, what is going on” Headmaster Mensarius spoke: “Do you remember?
You were awakening your talent and you looked like you were about to implode.
We were worried that you were going to die.
However, the diagnostic board showed you awaken your talent.
Are you feeling ok?” Reality kicked in immediately.
Yes, he was at the ceremony, the great bat phantasm, he was almost consumed, he fought back, pain and darkness.
“Well, what is my talent?
Tell me” Murmurs began erupting among the teachers.
Headmaster Mensarius silenced them.
“The talent you have awoken, is dark magic.
Apparently, it is rank 3.
Its quite high for a newly awaken talent as well.
The main thing is the dark magic.
It is the purest of the dark magic aspect.
Like the root of it all.
It is the primordial element itself.
There are only a few known examples with this talent.
The last one to have it was the first human dark king, that ruled during the beginning of the 2nd age.” Headmaster Mensarius told his nephew with bated breath.
“Ok, so why do all of you look so worried?” “Its not just a powerful dark magic talent, it is THE dark magic talent itself.
You are darkness itself.
You are destined to be King.
To rule the dark faction.
Did you see anything bat-like?
A darkness in the form of a large bat?” “Yeah, it attacked me and I stabbed it.” More murmurs erupted.
“Its the king’s insignia.” “King’s seal” “This is history in the making” Headmaster Mensarius silenced everyone again and told them to leave the room.
“While we are happy that you have the talent of the King, this is going to cause many things to happen.
Most of them are not good.
Firstly, although it is dark magic, each king has used it differently.
Some focus of the corruption aspect, like the first human king.
Others, used it for absorption.
It is a powerful magic, but difficult to master.
No one can teach you, only you can teach yourself.” Prince Kenius, starting to be more awake now, replied: “Ok, it just means I have to experiment with my own magics.” “That is the problem.
It causes changes.
Personality, thinking, physicality and more.
You are literally being corrupted by the darkness to become a vessel fit for a king.
Some become bloodthirsty, some became mad, the first human king ruled wisely, but died before the faction solidified, leaving it to the Obsidian Council to rule in its stead.” Prince Kenius could see the look on his uncle’s face start to furrow.
He is getting more worried.
“There must be more you are not telling me, I got a great power yet all of you seem worried” “Yes, and for good reason.
Usually, when someone awaken’s the talent of the King, it means a huge disaster is coming.
Hence, such a power is required.
Next, the council, they have been ruling for a long time since the last king, and suddenly a true king appears?
They are unlikely to relinquish power, which means you need to subdue/dominate them.
Lastly, they may reject your legitimacy because of one thing.” “What is that?” Prince Kenius asked.
“That no king of the dark faction, numerous though there is, has had a race repeat and got it.
They see it as a chance for each race to rise up and rule.
Humans had their turn with the First Human Dark King, and now another reign of a human dark king?
There will be protests, civil war, uprisings.
Everyone predicted the werebeasts were next to rule.
Prince Jyggawulf was expected to be the heir.
He awakened a useful talent, but it was NOT the king’s talent.
Also, they do not wish for it to happen as they fear the coming disasters associated with the powers.” “So what now?” as Prince Kenius stared at Headmaster Mensarius..
“What will be my fate now, Uncle?” “That is not for me to decide.
We need to confirm a few things first.
You saw the bat, but we need to see if the King’s insignia is on you.
I will first need to speak to your father about this.
This matter needs to be presented to the council.
Your fate is now tied directly to the council and this dark faction itself.” “Can’t we just not inform them?
I am just 18 years old.
I want to start learning magics.
I want to help the war.
I want to explore the world.
I cannot be cooped up in a cage now.
It is my life, I should decide how I want it to go!” Frustration emits out of Prince Kenius’s words.
He could not believe it.
Is he going to be used as a pawn, especially by his father, whose concern is only of the human race’s standing in the dark faction?
“Believe me, my boy.
Even I have no idea the path ahead.
All I can do is perform my duties, and do my due diligence to the dark faction.
Rest now, child.
I will handle it from here.” Mensarius got up and headed to the door.
“Nephew, nay, Your Highness.
Once everything is resolved, we may not be able to speak like this.
You could become the King of this land.
However, I will promise you.
I will do everything in my power to help you.” “But I do not want it, Uncle!
My fate can only be decided by me.
No one will control my life!” As tensions flare, dark vapors in the form of tentacles began to flow out of the Prince’s arm.
In his anger, the dark magic is trying to assault the Headmaster.
As the dark threads shoot out and reach for Mensarius, the Shadow demon’s arm appear and grabbed the dark tentacles.
“Kenius!
Control yourself!
You now have latent magic awakened inside you.
Do not overreact.” The prince was shaken and immediately recovered his senses.
The dark tentacles disappeared into the air, evaporating and turning into vapor.
“I am sorry, Uncle.
I am just…
so angry.” “I know, Nephew.
Like I said, I promise you, I will help you.
Leave it to me.
Get some rest.” With that, Mensarius headed out of the door and closed it behind him.
Prince Kenius collapsed back onto the bed, thinking about what was said.
Sleep eluded him.
The thoughts that surrounded him was: 1.He was to become king 2.
His freedom is taken away 3.
The other races will come after him 4.
He may just be puppet 5.
This is not what I want.
With such heavy news burdening his mind, Prince Kenius brushes it all off, and head back into deep sleep.
In his subconsciousness, there it was again.
The dark giant phantasmal force taking the form of a bat.
“Is this how you are going to appear before me from now on?
What have you done to me.
You have cursed me.
You have sealed my fate.” Prince Kenius began lamenting, having know all these information quite recently.
“Cursed?
I gave you great powers.
You are one of the fated.
A long line of Kings, destined to bring out the best of the element of darkness.
You are the one I have chosen, to lead this faction to glory.
Beings yearned to have this power.
I could have granted it to the werebeasts, the undead, the shadows, the corrupted, and the many races populating this land.
Instead, I chose you.” The bat then flew and reached towards the Prince.
Its shadow limbs reached out and grappled the Prince.
The Prince, in its grasp, struggled to get free.
“I granted you ultimate power, so I expect great things from you.
Be it good or terrible, I expect them to be great.
That will your responsibilities as I dictate them to you.” In its grasp, dark powers started to overwhelm the Prince.
Kenius screamed in Agony, but no voice came out.
His face though, showed the pain and torture as he felt dark powers entered him through every pore on his skin.
Once done, the bat released its grip on him, and the prince fell to the floor, motionless.
He had passed out.
“Show me what you can do.
I look forward to it…
hehehehehehehe….
hyahhahahahhahahaha.” On the prince arm, the king’s insignia appeared on his palm.
It looked as though it was burned into it.
Then, dark tentacles stitched up the wounds and his palm looked as good as new.
“Arise, Prince of Darkness.
Let the King rule again and turn the world on its heel.” The great phantasm spoke before disappearing.
If I have time, I may release 2.
Also, I saw 1 collection.
Someone added this story and I have to say a massive Thank you to whoever this person is!
This is just me writing a story which I have thought about since a long time ago.
