“Wait, you’re telling me that Adrian is your twin brother?!” Jules asked, eyes full of disbelief, before she pursed her lips and gave Rue a once-over.

“Actually, now that you say it, I can’t believe that I didn’t put it together earlier…you guys look a lot alike.”Full novel: A Dealer of Euphoria — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“We used to look a lot more alike last year,” Rue muttered as she poked and prodded at her mostly uneaten school lunch, “Back then we were the same height and everything.”

Jules’ eyebrows shot up, “So what?

He just grew like six inches over the summer?”

“And put on a bunch of muscle.” Rue grunted.

Jules nodded, her eyes gaining a far-off look before she glanced at Rue, “So what’s he like…”

Rue paused for a second before turning her head to look at Jules with narrowed eyes, “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“You know,” Jules started with a small smile, “What’s he like…his personality and everything.

Who is he as a person?”

“As a person?” Rue muttered as her mind was suddenly drowning in a flood of memories, “He’s probably the most loyal and accepting person you’ll ever meet.”

“Really?” Jules asked, and Rue nodded without hesitation,”But not in the way you’re thinking…Adrian…he sees people for what they are, so when he chooses to trust you, he accepts everything about you.

The good, the bad, and the ugly.

And with that acceptance comes loyalty because, for him, even the worst version of yourself is someone worth trusting.”

“That…doesn’t sound healthy,” Jules muttered with a concerned look on her face.

“It’s not…and he knows it,” Rue said morbidly as her chest tightened with guilt, “That’s why he’s alone most of the time, because most people aren’t worth trusting.”

“Huh, that’s not what I was expecting your answer to be,” Jules admitted, “He certainly didn’t seem like that kind of person at the party.”

“Yeah, I’ve heard,” Rue scoffed, “All of these rumors…It’s not like him…he’s different now.”

Jules opened her mouth to speak but before she could, a shrill whistle split through the cafeteria and everyone looked over at Head Coach Bryan as he clapped his hands together.

“Oh god not this again,” Rue muttered as she cursed herself for forgetting.

“What’s going on?” Jules asked, leaning in to whisper.

Rue sighed as Coach Bryan continued to amp up the room, “On the second day of school, there’s a pep rally during lunch for the football team, and it gets pretty intense.”

Jules frowned, “How intense are we talking?”

“You guys pumped?”

“Yeah!”

“Are we gonna win?”

” Yeah!”

“Then let’s hear it for the East Highland Blackhawks!”

The doors to the cafeteria burst open, and the entire football team, in their jerseys, rushed into the room as music started playing, accompanied by a dance routine from the cheer squad.

Huddling as the football team ran around the room screaming, Jules couldn’t help but agree with Rue, “I, 100 percent, do not feel safe right now.”

I let out a hiss between clenched teeth as I pushed myself up, fully extending my arms as I completed the last rep of my set.

Reaching back with my foot, I stepped back on the dip bar’s footrest, careful not to move too quickly with the heavy weights hanging down from the belt around my waist.

Reaching down, I unclipped the chain and lowered the plates to the floor before stepping onto the floor.

Catching my breath, I shook out my arms, already feeling the deep fatigue from my workout.

Grabbing my water, I greedily drank until the bottle was nearly empty, ‘I should refill for my run home.’

Just as I was about to move towards the water fountain, my phone went off in my pocket.

I took a glance, only to immediately pick it up when I saw the caller ID, “Rue, why you calling?

What’s wrong?”

“Yo Adrian, it’s Fez, you got to get over here, man.”

I was already running to my locker and grabbing my stuff, “What happened man?

Where’s my sister!?”

“She’s here, and I gave her some Narcan, but I’m not gonna lie, she’s in rough shape,” Fez said, his voice tight and stressed.

Throwing on my backpack, I pulled the straps tight before sprinting out of the gym, still on the phone and ignoring the heavy downpour, “What did she take?”

Fez was silent for a long second, far longer than I liked, “Fez, what the fuck did she take?”

“Fentanyl, man.

She took Fentanyl.”

My blood went cold, and my voice went frigid, “Fez, you better be joking man, because if the next thing you tell me is that you sold my sister fentanyl, I’m going to kill you.”

“Chill, man, I didn’t sell it to her!”

“Then where the fuck did she get it?!” I hissed as my lungs started to ache and protest as I ran and screamed over the sound of the rain at the same time.

“Bro she came storming in here demanding drugs.

I told her I didn’t have anything, but she kept insisting and wouldn’t leave, man.

Then my suppliers came, and everything was fucked from there!”

“What the fuck, Fez!?”

“I know, I’m sorry, man, I did the best I could in a fucked up situation.”

“How the fuck is this your best?”

“Because I had to cough up six hundred to pay for the fent, and if I didn’t, this guy…I-I can’t say what he was about to do to her.”

My jaw clenched so hard I thought I was about to chip a tooth.

“I’ll be there in five minutes, Fez, and when I get there, you and I are going to have some words.”

Fez was silent for a moment before I heard him sigh, “Alright man, I’ll be here.’ This story is hosted at g.com.

Five minutes later, I was pounding up the steps leading to Fez’s door, though before I could even pound on the metal screen the door opened and I looked down to see Ashtray staring back at me, “She’s inside.”

Brushing past Ashtray, I stormed into the apartment and immediately spotted Rue passed out on the couch on her side in nothing but a flimsy tank top and a pair of boxers.

Rushing over, I knelt down by the couch and reached out with two fingers, pressing up against the corner of her jaw to feel her weak but steady pulse.

“Yo.”

I looked over and saw Fez leaning against the wall in the adjacent hallway, he had a conflicted look on his face, and in an instant I could tell he felt guilty, ashamed, and pissed off all at the same time.

“Where the fuck are her pants, man?

“It’s not like that,” Fez muttered as he pushed off the wall and stepped into the living room, “She was changing after getting here soaked, nothin happened…you know I wouldn’t let that happen to her.”

“I know,” I said truthfully as I stood up and looked Fez in the eye, “And for that, you have my thanks, but this shouldn’t have been a situation to begin with.”

“She’s not coming back here,” Fez announced with an intense look, “And I’m not selling to her either, she’s cut off.”

I paused for a second, “Any other dealers she could score from?”

Fez shook his head.

“Alright, then she’s going cold turkey.”

“So we good?” Fez asked as he sniffed and brushed his nose with his thumb.

“Nah, I need one more thing from you,” I said with a small shake of my head, “I need you to get me some seeds.”

“Seeds?” Fez muttered, confused, “You mean like weed?”

“Yeah, can you get them, not?” I asked as I crossed my arms.

“I mean, yeah, they got that shit online, man,” Fez mumbled as he looked me up and down, “But what the hell do you know about growing weed, and why do you even want to grow in the first place?”

“I know enough to tell you that I’m looking for photoperiods, one indica-heavy, one sativa-heavy, feminized if possible.

I don’t care about THC content, and absolutely no autoflowers.” I watched as Fez stared at me in a new light as I listed my specifications with rapid-fire speed, “As for why…that blunt you gave me was ass.

I could grow better shit in my closet.”

“Man your tripping that shit was-”

“Ass, like I said,” I insisted.

“It should be around 200 plus shipping and handling.

Hit me up when you get them and come around with the money.”

“Look, man, you don’t have to pay me,” Fez muttered as he looked around with that unique stare of his.

“No, I’m paying,” I corrected.

“You treat me like just any other customer.

From here on out, it’s just business, alright.”

“Yeah, alright,” Fez agreed before glancing at Rue, “Though let me drive the two of you home, at least.

Even if you can carry her through the rain, you won’t make it five minutes before someone calls the police on you.”

After a second I nodded, “Thanks, just let me get the clothes she came in here with, and then we can get out of here.”
