How could someone in this day and age not have a mobile phone?
Luo Shen frowned and began to carefully scrutinize the man standing a head taller than himself. The man’s skin was so fair that not a single pore could be seen, as if he were an elf living in the mountains. His eyes were as clear as a spring, making anyone who looked into them feel ashamed of their own imperfections.
Seeing things take an awkward turn, Wen Zui hurriedly scratched his head and began to smooth things over. “It is like this. My cousin was abducted by human traffickers when he was a child. My uncle and aunt passed away from grief a few years later, and the family of three was removed from the household register. I only recently found him and brought him back. He does not even have an identity, which is why I have not bought him a phone yet.”
Yun Qi stood behind Wen Zui, nodding and blinking innocently as he gazed at Luo Shen.
“Ah, then here is where I can help.” Luo Shen patted Wen Zui’s shoulder, though his eyes remained fixed on Yun Qi. “Leave it to me. I will definitely get your identity card within three days. Brother Xiao Wen, just send me the key information on WeChat.”
“Thank you, Xiao Shen,” Yun Qi said with a sincere smile, thinking that this college student was quite sensible.
On the way home, Wen Zui walked ahead alone, his strides large and forceful.
Yun Qi raised an eyebrow behind him, quickened his pace to Wen Zui’s left side, and reached out to drape an arm over his shoulder.
“What is wrong, good disciple? Are you unhappy?” Before Wen Zui could speak, Yun Qi jumped to his own conclusion. “Is it because you did not get any money from them?”
Wen Zui felt even angrier. Was he nothing more than a money-grubber in Yun Qi’s mind? He gave a small huff but did not push Yun Qi’s hand away.
“Do you want to take my surname, Wen, or something else?” Wen Zui felt a secret thrill. One could not just pick any name for a household register; if Yun Qi took his surname, would that not be fantastic? He was so pleased that he could barely keep a straight face.
“Either way is fine. You decide.” Yun Qi did not care about such things; after all, it was just a tool on the path of cultivation.
Hearing this, Wen Zui became unhappy again. It felt as though everything was like a passing cloud in Yun Qi’s heart, unable to leave even a slight mark. He stopped talking and silently toyed with his phone, sending the fabricated information and their address to Luo Shen.
When the two returned home, they found a figure squatting by the door.
“Who are you?” Wen Zui asked warily.
The newcomer was Xiao Wu. After the yellow-haired man was kicked out of the Green Dragon Gang, Xiao Wu had logically become the boss of this area. Seeing Wen Zui return, he scrambled up from the ground and bowed.
“Big Brother!” He lunged toward Wen Zui, his eyes wide like a dog seeing a meaty bone.
“Huh?” Wen Zui was confused until Yun Qi gave him a subtle hint.
The one who was with the yellow-haired man when they attacked you before.
Before Wen Zui could get angry, Xiao Wu began to explain the reason for his visit in a rambling, frantic, and animated fashion. It turned out that the Green Dragon Gang was going to have a gang fight with the White Tiger Gang tonight, and Xiao Wu had come to ask for his help.
“Big Brother, it is fine if you do not want to go. Our gang leader said to just ask.” Xiao Wu shrank back and took two steps away.
“I will go. Consider it repaying your gang leader’s favor.” Wen Zui was always a person of integrity. Since he had taken the man’s house, he could not refuse this small favor. Moreover, he could use the opportunity to test the spells he had been practicing.
“Spells cannot be used directly on mortals. Do you understand?” Yun Qi instructed him calmly in his mind. He waved at Wen Zui with a smile and turned to close the door.
The System chimed in: “It looks like the third female lead is about to appear. Host, why are you not nervous at all!”
Inside the house, Yun Qi was already familiar with Wen Zui’s wardrobe. He was searching for Wen Zui’s secret stashed money and soon found several thousand yuan in red notes.
“Little System, when doing missions, one must have a long-term vision. It is still too early for that woman to appear, but she is wealthy! I am penniless right now; how can I compete with her?”
Yun Qi flickered back and forth, holding a large stack of finance books. He flipped through them at a speed of a hundred lines per glance while the financial news played on the television in front of him.
At the pier.
The two gangs stood on opposite sides, each holding weapons and glaring at the other. The silence was only broken by Wen Zui’s arrival.
Xiao Wu walked tall like a victorious rooster, leading Wen Zui through the dense crowd to the front of the Green Dragon Gang. The leader was a familiar face, Zhang Erduo, the one who had blocked Wen Zui’s path that day at the Green Dragon Gang headquarters. Seeing Wen Zui, he immediately stepped back and yielded the leader’s position.
The leader of the White Tiger Gang was a man with a scar running across his left eye. He was about two meters tall and heavily muscled. Seeing Zhang Erduo acting respectfully toward a “pretty boy,” he nearly laughed his teeth off.
“What? Is this your young gang leader? Deaf man, oh deaf man, I suggest you keep a close eye on him so I do not punch him into a meat slurry!” The scarred man shook a fist the size of a rice bowl at Wen Zui, his face full of disdain.
“Blind man, keep your mouth shut! Do not blame me for not warning you later!” Zhang Erduo sneered, his eyes gleaming with the anticipation of a good show.
The scarred man’s pupils constricted. He took two steps back and re-evaluated Wen Zui, who looked ordinary aside from his handsome face. Instinct told him Zhang Erduo was not lying, yet he truly could not see anything special about Wen Zui.
Whoosh! If he could not see it, he would just strike! The scarred man threw a punch toward Wen Zui’s nose. To his surprise, Wen Zui did not dodge or flinch; he simply stood there calmly.
There was a glimmer of excitement in Wen Zui’s eyes as he anticipated the effect of his newly learned spell.
Thud! It felt as though the punch had landed on a steel plate. The scarred man’s knuckles instantly became red and swollen, while Wen Zui remained completely unharmed.
“This defensive spell is fun!” Wen Zui felt gleeful. He stared straight at the scarred man as if provoking him.
“What is the matter? Did my thick skin hurt your hand? Do you want to go home and apply some hand cream?” Wen Zui crossed his arms, his tone incredibly irritating.
“Hahahaha!” “Is this scarred guy just a paper tiger? He only looks intimidating!” “Exactly! Our Green Dragon Gang has not even made a move yet! These White Tiger Gang losers!”
The members of the Green Dragon Gang felt immensely proud and began to mock their opponents in unison.
“You!” Though the scarred man appeared boisterous, he was actually quite cautious. Wen Zui clearly had something strange about him, so he could no longer rely on brute force. However, the mission had to be completed.
“Brother, our White Tiger Gang is not unreasonable. Regarding that piece of land for the orphanage, if you step aside, we do not need to fight this battle at all. What do you think?”
The orphanage? What does this have to do with the orphanage?
Wen Zui frowned. He quickly realized that the Green Dragon Gang’s appearance at Liu Ruoling’s bun shop previously was not an accident but a deliberate move. Whatever the reason, if it involved the orphanage, he would never back down.
Wen Zui gave a light scoff and beckoned the scarred man with his finger. “In your dreams!”
Perhaps having expected this result, the scarred man’s face did not contort. He simply gave Wen Zui a cold look and issued the command.
In an instant, the entire pier became a chaotic brawl. Wen Zui used his spirit energy to freeze patches of the ground or secretly tug at the weapons of his opponents. Combined with his spirit-enhanced body, he was like a war god reborn, fighting a hundred men alone.
Before long, the White Tiger Gang members were scattered on the ground. All of this was observed by a man on a distant lighthouse.
“Where did this low-class little thing come from, embarrassing us practitioners of the Mysterious Gate?” He suddenly leapt from the lighthouse and landed in the center of the crowd.
By now, the fighting was mostly over. Aside from a few unlucky souls who took a few hits from clubs, the Green Dragon Gang was unharmed. The White Tiger Gang, however, was in a miserable state, with many sprawled on the ground clutching their backsides and groaning.
Wen Zui became highly alert toward this man who had dropped from the sky. He stepped back subtly and stared at him in silence. The man appeared to be in his forties, with a black goatee and a navy blue Taoist robe, yet he had short hair, making him look like an incongruous fake priest.
“So, little fellow, who taught you those spells?” The goatee man used spirit energy to transmit his voice to Wen Zui, his tone probing.
Seeing that the man had not made a move, Wen Zui felt a bit more confident. He half-closed his eyes, looked down at the goatee man, and exhaled through his nose. “What business is it of yours?”
Only at the first level of Qi Refining, yet his spirit energy is so pure and his attitude so foul. Could he have a powerful backer?
The goatee man stroked his beard, a calculating glint flashing in his small eyes. A smile returned to his wrinkled face as he spoke to Wen Zui. “Young man, why not join our White Tiger Gang? You know the strength of the Green Dragon Gang; it is pathetic.”
“Pah! We of the Green Dragon Gang are not dead yet! Trying to poach our people right in front of us!” Zhang Erduo cursed the goatee man indignantly.
The White Tiger Gang members behind the goatee man became agitated as well, but he raised a palm toward the scarred man, signaling them to retreat.
“Great Master, this!” The scarred man hesitated, his face conflicted. He did not know if he should listen. After all, the gang leader’s order was to secure the rights to the orphanage land.
Seeing that the scarred man was not obeying, the goatee man’s expression darkened. With a casual flick of his wrist, a spark of fire instantly exploded before the scarred man’s eyes, ruining his already poor vision and leaving him seeing stars.
“If you do not leave now, it will be your eyes that burn.” The goatee man’s tone was grim, showing complete disregard for ordinary people.
“Yes, yes, we are leaving right now. Great Master, please do not be angry.”
“Retreat!” In an instant, the White Tiger Gang members vanished completely.
Wen Zui’s heart was pounding so hard it felt like it would jump out. He forced himself to swallow and sent the Green Dragon Gang members away as well.
“Do you want to fight, old man?” Wen Zui gave a light scoff and deliberately revealed the blue snake-shaped ring on his left index finger.
It was natural spirit jade! A magical treasure that legendary Nascent Soul cultivators use. How could it be on a kid at the first level of Qi Refining?
Boundless greed instantly filled the goatee man’s mind.
