[FAVELA. BELMONT].
“How many gangs have we assimilated? I don't need the details, I just need a short answer, and your suggestion as well.” Damon said as he gazed at the photo in his hand.
“My lord, we have taken over all the gangs in the Favela. But the gangs in the middle-class are aiming to swallow us up.” Cortez answered. He had become a revenant fanatic after witnessing Damon's feats over and over again. He had realized that Damon might be amongst the very few humans with supernatural abilities. Of course superhumans weren't myths in this world, they were just rare, and either belonged to top powerful families, or had formed their own family. He had recognized Damon's potential way before anyone else did, which was why he didn't fight against Damon, but simply surrendered to him. Now, he was simply numb to the constant increase of Damon's strength.
“If we are sticking to your timeframe of six months, it may be a bit difficult to take over Belmont City.” Cortez answered.
“Yes, I know, you told me about the Fletchers and their mysterious backers already.” Damon said nonchalantly.
“That's not it.. well, it's only partly.” Cortez paused, thinking of the best way to put forth his words, “You see, while most of the gangs in the Favela has more number of members than the high-tiers gangs, they're still weak despite their numerous numbers. The gang members in Favela are civilians who joined simply to provide for their families, or get protection that the gangs offers. Whereas the members of the high-tier gangs are mostly ex military and ex special forces. Meanwhile those in the middle-class has a bit of both, civilians and ex soldiers.”
Damon didn't show any emotion, but he understood Cortez’s concerns, and he'd be lying if he didn't feel a bit concern as well. In other words, despite taking over all of the Favela, the Revenant was still no match for the big boys upstairs.
Sigh! He ran his fingers slowly across the photo. In the photo were a young Asian woman in her early thirties, and a five year old girl. He had sworn revenge, and he will get it, regardless of the cost. With this thought, his heart hardened once again, and he turned his attention to Cortez.
“Which of the gangs are targeting us?”
“The Inagawa-kai, it's a gang under the Yakuza Mafia. Then we have the 14K, a gang under the Triad Mafia. Both these gangs have no less than two hundred men each, and most of them are ex soldiers, especially in the Triad, there are more ex soldiers in 14K than in the Inagawa-kai.” Find the original chapter at NovelPing.
Sigh! Damon realized these two gangs could pose a problem to his newly rising gang. Cortez was right, his people weren't ready for a direct clash with those upstairs. But then again, he had come this far in his quest for revenge, he wasn't going to give up now. He turned again to Cortez, “Get me Zane.” Damon commanded.
“Yes my Lord.” Cortez said and walked out. Few minutes later, he walked in with Zane behind him.
“Boss, you sent for me.” Zane said with a slight bow.
“I want you two to take a hundred men each. Attack the 14K and the Inagawa-kai gangs simultaneously.” Damon commanded.
Zane didn't show any emotion, but Cortez's mouth hung open in shock and confusion. He had just explained how formidable these two gangs were, and the fact they had more than two hundred members, which most are former soldiers. And yet he was only being given just a hundred men to attack this gang? Was he sending them to be wiped?
“My lord, you don't believe we can wipe out these two gangs with just this number, and even if you ask us to take two hundred men each, there's no certainty we will achieve victory.” Cortez lamented.
“The aim is to reduce their numbers and enrage them to attack. An enraged animal can't think of plan, they will head straight here, in our own home ground, we will wipe them out.” Damon said.
“I understand, but still, sacrificing two hundred men just to..” Cortez was about to argue but Damon's deathstare shut him up. He then bowed and left with Zane.
“In the grand scheme of things, everything else is irrelevant.” Damon muttered. As long as he amassed enough points and kept on leveling up to take down the Dragon's Head group, nothing else mattered.. besides the system made it clear, either he took over Belmont City within six months, he lose the chance to get revenge forever.
“I'm sorry, but you all became sacrificial lambs and stepping stones the moment you aligned with me. Everyone is the same, there is no allies or foes, all I see is a path to Carlos' death.”
“Miss, this is the Favela. We are in the Revenant's territory.” An old man said to the lady seated behind him.
“Thank you.” Jemma replied, she paid her fare and got out of the cab.
Watching the cab drive off, she decided to ask for directions to the Revenant's headquarters. The cab driver had told her the headquarters was just around the corner, but only core members were allowed near it. She couldn't believe Damon had formed another Mafia group in just a short time, and he even controled a large part of a city.
“Once a Mafia Lord, always a Mafia Lord.” Jemma muttered.
She had been walking around for half an hour when she spotted a heavily guarded skyscraper. Yep, that's definitely the place. She decided to go over there.
“Stop! Who are you!?” One of the armed goons guarding the entrance of the building shouted at her.
“I'm here to see Damon! I'm not a threat!” Jemma replied in a loud voice. But she only saw confusion on the goon's face. It was then she realized that perhaps no one knew his real name here. She needed to make them understand.
“I'm here to see your leader! Just tell him that I'm an old friend of Damon Mateo. He will want to see me.” Jemma continued in a loud voice.
The goon didn't respond, but instead took out a cellphone and made a call. Few seconds later, he returned the phone to his pocket. “The boss wants to see you, but also said that if you try anything, you will be killed immediately.” The guard relayed the message, to which Jemma nodded. He then beckoned to her to come over.
Just as Jemma was reaching the entrance door, it suddenly swung open, and a middle-aged man walked out, he was armed to the teeth, and had a frown on his face.
Jemma's movement halted immediately. It was as if she suddenly blanked out. It wasn't the man's weapons that made her fret, but the fact that she recognized him.. she'll know that man anywhere.. Cortez Ramirez, the man who murdered her father.
