Immediately after sending the message, Shi Song regretted it.

Looking at the pitiful, aggrieved tone of that Friends Circle post, the more he thought about it, the more wrong it felt. His face began to burn with a faint flush of heat.

Feeling somewhat annoyed with himself, he thumped his head with his fist, then quickly went back and deleted the post.

Watching it vanish from the list, Shi Song finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Anyway, Wei Huaichen was so busy; there was no way he would have seen it.

Yet, at that exact moment, his phone suddenly let out a ding-dong chime, alerting him to an incoming message.

Shi Song was so startled he nearly dropped his phone. When he opened it, he found it was from Lin Yiming.

“Baby, are you home yet?”

Shi Song instantly relaxed completely: “Not yet, almost.”

“That’s good. Remember to send me a message when you get home, otherwise I won’t feel at ease.”

Shi Song was too lazy to reply. He was just about to exit the interface when a new pop-up suddenly appeared.

“Where are you?”

The avatar looked incredibly familiar. Shi Song stared for a second, and then his eyes widened in surprise.

It was actually Wei Huaichen!

He nearly doubted his own eyesight, freezing for a moment before clicking into the chat.

“Brother?”

“Yeah. How come you’re out there all by yourself when you’re injured?”

“I just had something I needed to take care of.”

Shi Song described a general location, trying to laugh it off and change the subject: “There are so many people here, it’s quite lively, haha.”

After another ten seconds or so, the other person sent a brief sentence over.

“Be more specific. I just finished work; I can come pick you up.”!

He was actually coming!

Shi Song blinked his eyes.

After a brief hesitation, he obediently sent his live location to Wei Huaichen: “Right here.”

After sending it, he felt even more self-conscious, and he reached up to rub his earlobe.

Hiss, it’s so hot.

That Friends Circle post had actually been seen by him. This was too embarrassing; people really shouldn’t act on impulse.

“Alright, wait for me there.”

This time, Wei Huaichen’s reply came very quickly.

This place was actually extremely close to the Wei Corporation.

Barely ten minutes had passed before a black Bentley pulled up right in front of Shi Song.

The rear door opened, revealing Wei Huaichen sitting upright inside. He turned his head slightly to look at Shi Song, his voice low and calm: “Get in.”

The car’s chassis was a bit high, so Shi Song used both his hands and feet to scramble inside. Once he was seated properly, he said obediently, “Thank you, Brother.”

Even though he had harbored the petty thought of playing the pity card when he posted on his Friends Circle earlier, now that the person involved was actually here, Shi Song practically didn’t dare to look at him.

His hands were placed obediently on his knees, and he was holding a beautifully packaged paper bag, looking exactly like an elementary school student.

Only he himself knew that his face was gradually growing hotter and hotter.

In the end, it was Wei Huaichen who broke the silence between them.

He tossed a tube of ointment over from the side, his voice cool and indifferent: “It’s specifically for treating injuries. Apply it when you get back, it’s very effective.”

Shi Song was startled. He instinctively caught the ointment and glanced at it, discovering that it was entirely covered in letters he couldn’t understand.

A warm current surged through his heart, washing away the previous awkwardness.

Shi Song smiled, his voice bright and cheerful as he thanked him: “Thank you, Brother did you bring this back from abroad?”

Wei Huaichen gave a faint hum of assent, looking over sideways as he said casually, “In the past, when I was abroad… I used to get injured often.”

His vocal timber was like a rich, mellow red wine elegant and magnetic.

“Why?”

Shi Song opened his eyes wide in curiosity, his heart feeling as though it had been gently pricked by something.

He knew that his own father and mother had gone abroad because of Wei Huaichen. Under those circumstances, what Wei Huaichen possessed must have been the most affluent and privileged lifestyle, so how could he get injured?

Could it be that someone at school had bullied him?

Shi Song looked Wei Huaichen up and down, but then felt it was impossible.

With the kind of aura Wei Huaichen carried around him, no matter where he went, he was a favored child of heaven. Who would dare to bully him?

Wei Huaichen felt the gaze of the youth beside him. It felt almost tangible, brushing against him with a crisp, tingling sensation that was exceptionally soft.

However, he did not continue speaking.

Wei Huaichen’s silhouette appeared deep and heavy in the night, looking inexplicably lonely. He was like a dense, dark shadow, making one feel as though they would be swallowed up just by leaning close.

Shi Song couldn’t help but lean forward slightly, asking tentatively, “Brother?”

Unprepared, Wei Huaichen turned his head.

Their gazes clashed in the air. At the moment of contact, Shi Song’s scalp went a bit numb, and his heart skipped a beat. He hurriedly backed away.

“It’s nothing.”

But immediately afterward, Wei Huaichen smiled gently: “They were all just minor issues.”

Seeing that Wei Huaichen truly didn’t want to talk about it, Shi Song could only rein in his curious little thoughts.

He gripped the small paper bag beside him tightly, feeling a bit conflicted about whether or not he should give it to him.

Shi Song hadn’t been idle just now; he had gone to buy pastries.

But this was Wei Huaichen after all. What hadn’t he eaten growing up? What would these even amount to in his eyes?

Shi Song felt hesitant.

But this kind is really delicious.

Wei Huaichen was looking calmly out the window when, at that moment, something warm was suddenly stuffed into his hand.

He lowered his eyes and discovered that it was actually a box of pastries.

These pastries were sold by a famous old brand in the Capital. They were placed inside a dark green plastic box, and though the packaging was simple, the fragrance was incredibly sweet and pleasant.

No wonder from the moment Shi Song got into the car, Wei Huaichen had faintly caught a whiff of a subtle, sweet scent.

He turned to look at Shi Song: “This is?”

Shi Song curved his eyes into a smile, his voice light: “Have you ever eaten this before?”

“I bought it specially for you. Taste it, Brother.”

“Bought it for me?”

Wei Huaichen looked down at the box of pastries.

“Of course,” since he had already given it away, Shi Song no longer felt conflicted, and his reply was brisk, “While I was waiting for you just now, I went to line up by the way. Fortunately, there wasn’t anyone there today.”

“When this shop first opened, I wanted to eat there, and I had to line up for over two hours just to get it.”

“I’m not used to this kind of sweet…”

Wei Huaichen was just about to say something.

But at this moment, Shi Song had already pulled that piece of pastry out of Wei Huaichen’s hand.

His hand became empty, and that touch of warmth was gone.

Wei Huaichen’s hand clenched slightly into empty air.

He lowered his eyes, his long eyelashes casting a neat, small row of shadows beneath his eyes.

Shi Song didn’t notice his movement as he rustled open the packaging bag.

“Just give it a try.”

Immediately after, Wei Huaichen felt a soft piece of pastry get stuffed back into his hand.

Shi Song had unwrapped the packaging, picking up a piece and using the box to support it as he offered it to him: “I just wiped my hands, don’t find me distasteful.”

The sweet fragrance of the pastry became increasingly direct and enticing. It looked very small and exquisite, adorned with cream on top, revealing a sweet and smooth texture.

Wei Huaichen saw that Shi Song was looking at him with bright, glittering eyes.

Those cat-like eyes were opened very wide, gleaming faintly in the dark car. Shi Song’s pupil color was very light, reflecting the feasting and revelry of the lights outside the car window. Just by sitting there, he could make Wei Huaichen feel a surge of bustling warmth.

The color of his eyes shifted abruptly.

Wei Huaichen turned his head and took a bite of the pastry that had been stuffed into his hand: “Mm, it’s quite delicious.”

It should indeed be delicious.

Although Wei Huaichen didn’t really taste much of the flavor, he figured there was nothing wrong with praising it this way.

In the night, the youth curved his eyes, his gaze crystal clear.

It formed a sharp contrast with the hazy confusion from last night.

“See, my taste isn’t bad, right!”

Shi Song became happy, his voice laced with laughter: “Then you should take it back with you. If you want to eat it again in the future, I can help you buy it. Just take it as my repayment for the ointment you gave me.”

Wei Huaichen also turned his head away: “Mm.”

He looked at his own hand. That hand was clenched very tightly into a fist, the pale blue veins on it bulging out, his palm aching from the sheer force of the grip.

Yet his voice formed a stark contrast to this self-punishing action.

He heard himself ask in a gentle and calm manner.

“What made you think of buying pastries for me?”

Shi Song turned his head, blinking his eyes gently.
