Chapter 23: Something Evil This Way Comes…

A Worm’s Guide to Highschool DxD

-----Lilu Flauros-----

That seems to settle everyone down a fair bit. Shit, did they think I had some grand plan to exterminate all life or something? That would be such a fucking waste.

Well, whatever. I'm feeling kind of bored here. I can watch the fucking highlights or something while Riser's off in the Dungeon, but I need some stimulus. Hmm, what to do in the meantime?

Oh wait. I can do that. That could be fun.

"So, who wants to sit here and watch Riser do a Dungeon Crawl?" Pointedly, none of my girls raise their hands. Ravel doesn't either, which works in my favor.

"Okay, so how about we go and do something more entertaining while Riser's off doing that?"

"What did you have in mind Master?" Asks Io.

"Well, I feel kind of bad about hogging the whole 'isekai' experience to myself, so I was wondering if any of you wanted to go play around in other worlds?"

Everyone, including Ravel, begins nodding their heads so fast that you could almost mistake them for woodpeckers.

"So, do you want to just do whatever, come with me, what sounds good?"

"I'm happy following you Master." Replies Io. Pretty much everyone nods with her.

"Um, what sort of world were you planning on visiting Lord Flauros?" Asks Ravel.

"Call me Lilu. Also, there is one world in particular that I was wanting to visit. It's the world of 'Overlord', a game made by Triumph Studios. Basically, you take on the role of budget Sauron and lead an army of evil Minions on a campaign to take over the world."

"Huh, that sounds like it could be kind of interesting. Can I come?" Asks Ravel again.

"Sure, just let me hop on over and get some stuff arranged. It won't take but an instant for you girls."

With that, I open the [World Hopper] tab and select "Overlord (Triumph Studios)".

[World Hopper] Activated!

Caution: This is NOT like creating a simulated world like with [Trials of the Multiverse], this involves physically entering an actual version of the world in question! This means that any sufficiently powerful beings, such as Gods, are capable of far more direct interference than they would be when entering a simulation that mostly operates on Game-logic.

You have selected [Overlord (Triumph Studios)]

Customization options available!

Age of The Overlord:

So you know how Overlord and Overlord II are set like 15-20ish years apart with the protagonist of the second game being the son of the first game's protagonist? Yeah, no... You get to be both. Ripple effects may ensue.

Age of Gods:

So you've got The Forgotten God stuck in the Infernal Abyss and the Elven Mother Goddess mentioned, but not really being all that relevant or impactful in the grand scheme of things. This option makes it to where the Gods are capable of greater levels of influence in the world beyond the fucking hippy-elves bitching at your "heresy" and The Forgotten God being completely confined to the Abyss. Nothing (immediately) apocalyptic, mind you, unless you just leave them alone for too long.

War for The Dark Crown:

The Netherghūls from Fellowship of Evil are alive and well, for a given value of alive that is, and each of them wants your crown. Deal with these pretenders to your dark throne in any way you see fit, just ensure that they pose no threat to your dark reign.

Shining Justice Crusaders:

The Shining Justice have arisen and taken it upon themselves to purge the land of every last trace of Evil. I mean, do you really want to subject yourself to this Master? They are SO. FUCKING. ANNOYING!!!!!! Although, that kinda makes me want them dead even more than I already do.

Wisdom is NOT a Dump Stat:

So. *claps hands together* The 99.99999% of the world of Overlord are... Reallyfuckingstupid. The bosses are also pretty stupid, falling into entirely predictable patterns that can be easily exploited. This fixes that to make the NPC's, not as stupid. You can probably still outwit them due to your inherent intellectual superiority, but they won't be dumber than a sack of bricks, mostly.

Heroes to Zero's, to a Couple Extra Zero's Tacked On:

So yeah, it's heavily implied that after the Seven Heroes took down the Second Overlord and ultimately surrendered to their vices and sins, they ultimately became a bunch of highly corrupt pushovers that you could sorta bully into submission. Not anymore, this upgrade makes them every bit as fierce, intimidating, and competent at fighting as one would expect of Legendary Heroes. They're still Evil, they just haven't let themselves backslide, skill-wise.

I'm guessing that there are practical reasons for enabling these customizations?

Obviously. You do get extra bonuses for completing objectives related to these bonuses. Also, let's be real Master, you would absolutely curb stomp the world of Overlord as you are right now. Hell, the you before you achieved Balance Breaker would likely steam roll Overlord.True. Very true. By the way, I'm getting some serious "A Gamers Guide to Necromancy" flashbacks from this whole thing.

Well, you're not wrong. But hey, we've talked about this whole "paying homage to authors we enjoy" thing, Master. Fair. Go ahead and enable all of the modifiers. May as well try and have some fun with this whole thing.

Excellent! By the way, you also have some backstory customization options available. It doesn't heavily impact your gaming experience, it just helps to expand upon some of the lore for you and the world to make the changes more organic.Sure, go for it.

Backstory Customization:

The Darkest Sire:

Your father was none other than the Second Overlord himself. Before he died, he went on a bit of a rampage and raped a priestess, who was blessed with immense magical potential. Your mother, ashamed of her violation, fled to Nordberg where she gave birth to you. She raised you out of the kindness of her heart until you were a young child, but then the Second Overlord went and got himself killed.

It turned out that the Second Overlord had sired a number of potential heirs during his reign to serve as backup bodies to posses in case he died, but you were the only one who survived up to that point. However, your mother detected the Evil influence of your father trying to posses you and, at the cost of herself, called upon every last speck of magic she possessed to thwart the attempted possession.

This led to you becoming an orphan whose body had been wracked by the magical backlash of your father's attempt at possessing you as well as being suffused by your mother's magic. This has resulted in your body's affinity for magical power being rather obscene, to the point that you regularly tormented the other children who taunted you for being a so-called "Witch Boy" because Nordbergians distrust anything to do with magic.

After the Glorious Empire arrived to conquer Nordberg and oust any potential magical beings, i.e. you, you fled into the wilderness and crossed the great mountain range to arrive in distant lands. There, you moved around from place to place, learning to fight, to hunt, to steal, to kill. Sometimes out of necessity, most of the time because you just felt the call of Evil in your veins.

In any event, you learned that your father, the Second Overlord, wasn't quite as dead as you initially believed. While you were the only one of your siblings to survive and become an ideal Host for the Overlord's soul, you weren't the only option available. The Second Overlord decided to just nab the nearest convenient peasant that seemed to have a barely passable affinity for magic and used that as his new body.

Eventually, you received word of a coalition assembled by Champions from a number of different races coming together to form The Seven Heroes. A group of exceptionally powerful and skilled individuals who would form a party to subjugate the Overlord and end his reign of terror once and for all. You ended up running into them and, after proving yourself capable in a fight, were accepted as the unofficial "Eighth Hero".

After some questing here and there, you and The Seven Heroes eventually reached The Dark Tower from whence your tyrannical father reigned supreme, and there battle was joined. After a long, hard-fought struggle, you finally succeeded in landing a decisive blow and slew your father. But the backlash of outpouring magical energies sent you flying into a massive gaping crevice that had been created during the battle and sending you plummeting to your doom... Or so your companions believed...

Now though? Now it is time to step out of the shadows and claim your birthright. You are descended from a lineage of Evil, being an Overlord has been your life's calling all this time, now that your father's out of the way, it's up to you to answer the Call...

"Because Evil Always Finds A Way..."

Yeah, that tracks. So I'm not a deformed blue-skinned mutant?

You were when you were younger and had less control over your magic. As you got older, you got better at stabilizing and controlling your obscene magical reserves which caused the mutations to dissipate. Mostly. You never did manage to get your eyes to stop glowing with the raw power contained within you, and your veins would sometimes begin glowing with overflowing power.Okay, that's pretty cool. Hey wait, do I not get to customize a Mistress or something?

I mean, you could... But do you really need one, all things considered?I'm an Evil Overlord. That should be a given. Although my Harem is getting kinda full... Yeah, you're probably right. I'm going to be getting at least 6 additions to my Harem in this world as it is.

Having finalized my decisions, I'm thrust into the world with my next conscious sensory input being the sound of muffled tones and scraping of stone. Moments later, a stone lid is shoved aside by a bunch of Brown Minions.

I rise up from the coffin before they can splash acid on my face to help wake me up or whatever stupid plan Gnarl had in mind as the Minions get to work decking me out in my default Overlord armor. Oh yeah, it's time for some next level Evil...
