The CEO’s office?
Shen Shiyan’s office?!!
Why would Shen Shiyan, for no reason at all, want to see a low-level employee from the business department like her?
Could it be that he recognized her? That he wanted to settle the score? But it had already been a whole day—why hadn’t he said anything earlier?
She had just managed to calm down a little, but now Qin Nuan’s heart was racing uncontrollably again.
Qin Nuan desperately did not want to go to the 42nd floor, but she didn’t dare not go.
—Unless she didn’t want to keep her job anymore.
Zhao Meihua saw her walking out with a face like she was attending a funeral and couldn’t help asking, “Xiao Qin? Where are you going? It’s almost time to get off work.”
Qin Nuan forced a smile that looked worse than crying. She didn’t want anyone to know it was Shen Shiyan who had summoned her, so she lied: “I’m going to see President He. He just called and asked me to come up.”
With a nervous heart, Qin Nuan arrived at the 42nd floor. When she got there, Li Yue was already waiting for her at the elevator entrance, leaving her no chance to escape. His face still wore that standard smile she had seen in the elevator that morning.
“Miss Qin, you’re here. President Shen is waiting for you in his office.”
At this moment, Qin Nuan was so nervous that her palms were sweating. Her lips opened and closed several times, but she didn’t know what to say, so she could only follow Li Yue toward the CEO’s office.
Apart from the CEO’s secretarial office, the entire 42nd floor was the CEO’s office, making it feel spacious, empty, and quiet.
Before entering, Qin Nuan couldn’t hold back and asked Li Yue, “Assistant Li, do you happen to know what President Shen wants to see me about?”
Li Yue had worked by Shen Shiyan’s side for many years and was meticulous in everything he did: “I’m not too sure either. You’ll find out once you go in, Miss Qin.”
Her attempt to fish for information failed, so Qin Nuan could only hang her head dejectedly and step forward to knock on the door. Only after hearing a “Come in” from inside did she dare push the door open.
Once inside, she saw Shen Shiyan standing sideways by the huge floor-to-ceiling window, one hand in his pocket, on the phone. He didn’t stop when she came in—he merely glanced at her from the side before turning his attention back to whoever was on the other end of the line, occasionally letting out a faint “Mm.”
Naturally, Qin Nuan didn’t dare disturb him, so she stood quietly to one side.
After waiting for a while, Qin Nuan unconsciously drifted into a daze.
Her gaze slowly traveled up from the carpet beneath her feet and landed on the man standing by the floor-to-ceiling window.
Shen Shiyan had already taken off his suit jacket, wearing only a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, revealing a stretch of clean, defined wheat-colored arm.
The floor-to-ceiling window behind him reflected the skyline of the capital city. The setting sun streamed through the glass, making his figure appear even more upright and striking. The fingers holding his phone were clean and slender.
Qin Nuan was transfixed.
These were the same hands that had gripped her waist that night, pinned her wrists, and roamed over her body in ways that made her want to bite them.
But now, he was simply holding his phone, as if nothing had ever happened.
It wasn’t until Shen Shiyan finished his call and turned around.
The first time he looked at Qin Nuan, his gaze lingered on her face for half a second—light, and quick.
He was holding a file folder in his hand, which contained Qin Nuan’s resume.
Noticing that she seemed to be spacing out, Shen Shiyan frowned slightly and tapped his long, slender fingers twice on the desk.
“Miss Qin.”
His voice was neither heavy nor light. Qin Nuan snapped back to reality instantly, her face flushing bright red.
Of all times, why was she still thinking about that?!
“P-President Shen!” Qin Nuan stammered, her face burning red. “What… what did you call me in for?”
She clung to the last shred of hope that Shen Shiyan hadn’t recognized her, and that he had summoned her for some other legitimate matter.
But Shen Shiyan clearly had no intention of playing dumb with her.
He removed the plain glasses from the bridge of his nose, set them down on the desk with unhurried ease, revealing a pair of dark, deep-set eyes, and said without preamble:
“Miss Qin, the person in my room at the Imperial Capital Hotel the night before last—that was you, wasn’t it?”
