Fuxue…
Pei Shangyue recalled what she had said earlier in the car after waking from her nightmare.
So… that was her name.
“Have you investigated it?”
Assistant Xu understood what Pei Shangyue was asking.
“President Pei, we searched all records in Hong Kong Island using the name Song Fuxue, but we couldn’t find any information about her identity. There’s also no news of her disappearance in any Hong Kong media outlets.”
“We suspect that someone deliberately concealed her identity and information, not wanting others to find her.”
Pei Shangyue remained silent, his long fingers slowly stroking the safety knot. He did not speak for a long time.
Assistant Xu felt his heart tighten. “President Pei, should we continue investigating?”
“No need. Stop investigating, and don’t pay attention to any more news from Hong Kong Island.”
“Understood, President Pei.”
Assistant Xu did not dare to guess his thoughts and simply complied.
“Bro!”
“Assistant Xu!”
Song Fuxue had no idea what they were talking about. After finishing the snowmen, she called out loudly for them to come over.
“Bro, this big snowman is you, and the small one is me!”
“The snowman next to Older Brother is Assistant Xu!”
Assistant Xu walked over and laughed in surprise upon hearing this. “Oh? I get one too?”
Song Fuxue huffed and said awkwardly, “Since Assistant Xu has been pretty nice to me, I reluctantly made one for you. No need to thank me.”
Assistant Xu laughed. “Not bad—these snowmen actually look pretty decent!”
“Of course! Assistant Xu, I’ll take a picture for you as a souvenir!”
Song Fuxue took out her phone and snapped a bunch of photos. “Alright, Assistant Xu, you can get off work now.”
“Got it, Younger Sister!”
Assistant Xu tactfully left without disturbing them further.
Song Fuxue looped her arm through Pei Shangyue’s and took a couple of photos with him as well. The more she looked at them, the more satisfied she felt.
“Bro, the two of us look so good together!”
She sighed in admiration and set one of the photos as her wallpaper.
Then she grabbed Pei Shangyue’s phone and did the same.
“Bro, you’re not allowed to change your wallpaper for at least a week. If I catch you changing it, you’re done for!”
Song Fuxue threatened playfully.
A hint of amusement flashed through Pei Shangyue’s eyes as he put his phone away.
Seeing her reddened cheeks and nose from the cold, he quickly took her hand—it was icy.
He wrapped her hands with a warm water bag. “Miss Penguin, had enough fun?”
“More or less…”
Before she could finish, Pei Shangyue led her back inside.
Warmth enveloped her. Song Fuxue took off her down jacket and snow boots, no longer insisting on going outside.
After all, she had been playing for quite a while—it really was cold.
“Drink this first.”
Pei Shangyue brought over a cup of cold medicine from the kitchen.
Song Fuxue frowned, but under the pressure of Older Brother’s gaze, she still drank it in one go, then gulped down water to wash away the bitter taste.
“Older Brother, is this the house you mentioned?”
Song Fuxue looked around the low-key yet luxurious Chinese-style villa. It indeed matched Older Brother’s style.
There were three floors in total. She ran up and down exploring, finding his taste and aesthetic extremely satisfying.
“Bro, where’s my room?”
Pei Shangyue led her to the second floor. Her bedroom had already been prepared—it had been arranged in advance according to her preferences.
The moment Song Fuxue entered, she was immediately drawn to the floor-to-ceiling window.
Outside, the snow and bare branches filled her view without obstruction.
The lighting and color scheme of the bedroom were flawless.
The walk-in closet was filled with clothes and bags, all in styles she liked.
Song Fuxue loved it.
“Where does Older Brother stay?”
“Next door to you.”
“That’s great, but…”
Thinking of something, Song Fuxue grabbed Pei Shangyue’s sleeve, her fingers fiddling with his cufflink as she hesitated to speak.
Pei Shangyue could tell what she was thinking.
“I’ll stay in this room with you tonight. Go wash up first.”
“Oh… alright.”
Song Fuxue secretly glanced at him while speaking in a slightly proud tone, “It’s you who insisted on staying, not because I’m clingy.”
Seeing that Pei Shangyue only smiled faintly without refuting, she felt reassured and took her clothes to the bathroom.
On the way to Beijing, she had kept having nightmares—dreams of running, and of a deep, dark sea.
She really did not dare to sleep alone tonight.
With Older Brother there, she would feel much more at ease.
After Song Fuxue finished washing up and came out, Pei Shangyue had also changed into fresh clothes and set up another bed.
The two beds were placed side by side.
Yawning, Song Fuxue quickly climbed into bed. “Older Brother, good night.”
“Mm.”
Pei Shangyue turned off the lights, leaving only a small night lamp on.
Song Fuxue tossed around for a bit before quickly falling asleep.
In the middle of the night, she rolled around under the blanket and ended up in Older Brother’s arms, hugging him like a large stuffed toy, rubbing against him contentedly.
Pei Shangyue froze, all traces of sleep gone as he looked at her.
After an unknown amount of time, Song Fuxue, half-asleep, felt that the “toy” was too warm. Dissatisfied, she pushed it away and rolled to the other side.
But she did not escape.
An arm wrapped around her slender waist and effortlessly pulled her back.
“Mm…”
Unable to break free, Song Fuxue let out a soft murmur.
She could only find a comfortable position in the man’s arms and continue sleeping.
Outside, the snow gradually stopped, and the night grew silent.
But deep within Pei Shangyue’s heart, something dark—something forbidden—began to grow wildly that very night…
