Jiang Chuyao knew that Old Jiang was worried about her, but the thought of moving over there far from school, far from the dance hall, and with the old couple’s early-to-bed, early-to-rise schedule was just too much for her “rough-and-ready” style.
For the sake of the elderly couple’s comfort, she decided to let it go.
“Grandpa, this is my home. I’m not leaving. Even if someone has to go, it shouldn’t be me!” Jiang Chuyao firmly expressed her stance.
“That’s right. This house is for Yao Yao. If anyone upsets her, kick them out!” The grandmother’s dedication to protecting her grandchildren was beyond reproach.
Jiang Chuying’s mother had just finished tidying up and came out of the kitchen, only to hear them talking about kicking someone out.
Instinctively, she rushed over. “Mom, Dad, don’t listen to Yao Yao’s nonsense. She’s just looking for trouble; otherwise, Yingying wouldn’t be in the hospital!”
Jiang Chuying’s mother, as always, immediately shifted all blame to Jiang Chuyao, regardless of the truth.
Once again, Jiang Chuyao found herself the scapegoat.
“Do you even realize what you’re saying?” Old Jiang said, slightly angered.
Jiang Chuying’s mother was naturally a little scared, but thinking of her eldest daughter recovering in the hospital, fragile and possibly facing eviction, her heart overflowed with worry.
“Dad, it’s just a childish quarrel no big deal,” she said cautiously.
“A quarrel?” Grandma looked at her granddaughter, puzzled, silently asking what quarrel.
Had she missed something?
Jiang Chuyao: Oh, Grandma’s curiosity is officially piqued!
Sigh… Old Jiang’s face darkened she actually called it a “quarrel.”
Don’t think he hasn’t noticed that Jiang Chuying’s sister isn’t exactly upright ever since childhood, when faced with problems, she cries and acts aggrieved!
When difficulties arose, she avoided them, using little tricks instead of confronting issues.
And often, she shifted blame onto her own granddaughter. He had noted all of these instances carefully in his mind.
“Dad, in the end, it’s just Yao Yao being childish, causing trouble for her sister!” Jiang Chuying’s mother got a little angry seeing Old Jiang’s relentless attitude.
This matter should have been over long ago.
Yet he insisted on bringing it up and even threatened to kick someone out.
“What exactly happened?” Grandma asked, curiosity blazing.
“Grandma, you’re too delicate to hear this it might upset you,” Jiang Chuyao said, not wanting to trouble her with the details.
“(⊙o⊙)…!” Grandma’s curiosity only intensified after hearing that.
“Come on, tell me! My heart feels like twenty-five mice are scratching it at once!” The mischievous sparkle in Grandma’s eyes made Jiang Chuyao laugh.
“Grandma, is that really how you use ‘scratching at the heart with a hundred claws’?”
“Old man, you say it!” Grandma turned to her husband, noticing Jiang Chuyao was dodging the question.
Quickly, she sought her husband’s help.
Old Jiang pretended not to hear it was hard to speak such words. As a senior, how could he open his mouth?
“Jiang Chuyao! You’re the one who said it. Why can’t you stand to see your sister doing well?” Jiang Chuying’s mother accused, convinced her daughter was spreading gossip.
“Why should her doing well matter to me?” Jiang Chuyao rolled her eyes. Sitting on the sofa, and suddenly blamed from above!
“If you hadn’t said anything, why would your grandfather want to kick your sister out of this house?” Jiang Chuying’s mother fumed when she refused to admit anything.
“Grandpa didn’t say that don’t read too much into it. And seriously, can you think before you speak? That day, too many people knew what happened. Not okay, huh? Then go door-to-door and silence everyone!” Jiang Chuyao thought to herself: she must have been too kind before.
So now, no matter who it was, they wanted to step on her.
And they did it without reason, just trampling at will.
“If not you, then who else could be so resentful of your sister?”
“Mrs. Jiang, I think you read too many romance comics!” Jiang Chuyao refused to explain further.
After all, you can’t wake someone pretending to sleep. Those who understand you need no explanation; those who don’t, won’t understand anyway.
“My dear granddaughter, your mom has already wronged you, yet you won’t explain what really happened? Either way, you’ll get the blame.” Grandma smiled warmly at Jiang Chuyao, her grin impossible to hide.
“Grandma, you’re really good at ‘stirring up trouble…’ I mean, dispensing justice!” Jiang Chuyao joked.
Luckily, she didn’t finish the last word, saving herself from trouble.
Hearing this, Jiang Chuying’s mother asked, “You really didn’t say anything?” Her expression showed disbelief.
“Hmm, I didn’t say anything before, but…” Jiang Chuyao then recounted that day’s events in detail.
She had worried about Grandma’s health, but seeing her shocked yet lively, she relaxed a little.
Old Jiang sighed hearing his granddaughter she was soft-hearted, brushing past the absurd events without dwelling.
Jiang Chuying’s mother was dumbfounded. So, she hadn’t spoken earlier? All this fuss was her own doing!
“Yao Yao…”
“Yang Peiqin, this house, your father and I have willed it to Yao Yao. If you want to live here peacefully, you need to know not to trouble her. Otherwise… I can kick you out anytime!” Old Jiang, almost seventy, was full of vigor when angry.
Jiang Chuying’s father, just stepping in with his right foot, froze mid-step hearing Old Jiang’s roar.
So he displayed a new skill spinning in place, backwards!
“Old man, you’re back!” Jiang Chuyao called out before he could vanish underground.
“Back, and you didn’t even greet your dad and mom? You’ve grown wings, huh!” Old Jiang, full of rage, could only scold his daughter-in-law verbally, not physically.
“But Dad, I suddenly remembered I brought some special wine for you in the car!” Jiang Chuying’s father tried to cover it up, regardless of whether Old Jiang believed him.
A flying slipper! Right to the forehead. “Grandpa, perfect shot!”
“Of course! This is all your grandpa’s specialty!” Old Jiang puffed up proudly, making Jiang Chuying’s father laugh and cry at the same time.
“Dad, can you joke with your granddaughter without hurting me?” Jiang Chuying’s father protested.
Seeing him treated this way, Jiang Chuying’s mother remained silent.
Truly, they were not to be trifled with!
She, like a quail, had learned from experience last life, when the mistress showed up, she endured everything, not daring to even make a sound!
