The children’s ride finally came to a halt. Jin Yu stood up, his face flushed a deep crimson. With a long stride, he hopped off the ride, ignoring the strange look from the shop owner behind him, and turned to yell at Yan Qingming, “Are you playing me for a fool!”
Yan Qingming shrugged helplessly. “The car was bought by him, and now it has been confiscated. Did you not notice that I have to take a taxi everywhere I go?”
Jin Yu was left speechless, his jade-like face turning so red it looked like it might bleed. He could not face life anymore; the shame was unbearable. A grown man riding a children’s car, thank goodness no classmates saw him. If they had, he would have rather tied himself to a noodle in the city center and ended it all.
Yan Qingming turned away, waved his hand dismissively, and started walking, saying, “If you are not paying for more time, I am off. I have exactly one yuan left for the bus.”
Jin Yu hesitated for a moment before calling out, “Wait!”
He caught up in two or three strides, snatched the phone from Yan Qingming’s pocket, forced him to unlock it, and saved his own number before handing it back. When Yan Qingming looked down, he saw the contact was saved as “The Loaded Young Master Jin.” He could not help but pause.
Jin Yu lifted his chin and said haughtily, “What I said before was no joke. I have money, and I am much better than that man who looks like a night-walking demon. You know the famous Jin Corporation in Qingcheng? That is my family’s business. Follow me, and I promise you will live better than you do now.”
Yan Qingming already knew who he was; this proclamation did not stir any emotion in him. He simply glanced Jin Yu up and down before looking away. Showing off.
Jin Yu, thinking Yan Qingming was skeptical, quickly dug his bank card out of his pocket and shoved it into Yan Qingming’s hand. “This is my allowance for the month. The password is the last six digits of the card number. It is all yours. Consider it my sincerity. Feel free to contact me whenever you like.”
With that, he gave Yan Qingming a meaningful look, as if to say, “Little thing, just wait until I charm you to death.”
Yan Qingming was speechless.
Jin Yu left, walking away with what he deemed a suave gait, leaving Yan Qingming standing there in the wind, holding the card. Yan Qingming looked at the card and laughed softly. “I will exchange it all for coins to put you back on that children’s ride later.” Maybe it would shake some sense into his IQ-deficient brain.
He tucked the card away and checked his watch. Almost another hour had passed, and there was still no response from the people following Qi Xiaolin. A trace of worry crept into his eyes, and he managed a bitter smile. “It seems something has happened.”
As soon as Yan Qingming stepped into the courtyard, he felt the stifling atmosphere. All the bodyguards were standing there with their heads bowed like quails, not daring to make a sound. The villa was brightly lit, and shadows could be seen moving behind the windows.
The spacious living room was in shambles, with every delicate, luxurious ornament smashed to pieces.
The right shoulder of Jiang Ling’s shirt was soaked with blood. He was deathly pale from the pain, but he bit his lip hard to keep from making a sound. He was actually the lucky one; two other men in bodyguard uniforms were already lying unconscious amidst the ruins.
Qi Xiaolin’s expression was grim and terrifying. He tossed aside the broken golf club in his hand and said in a deep voice, “Jiang Ling, is this your idea of guarding? You had over a hundred men; how could you fail to secure a single courtyard?”
Jiang Ling clutched his injured shoulder and lowered his head, honestly admitting his fault. “I am sorry, Mr. Qi. I failed to stand guard properly.”
He had a solid alibi for the afternoon, so he was not the one who would suffer the worst of Qi Xiaolin’s wrath, which had saved his life. He could see the anger, malice, and brutality in Qi Xiaolin’s eyes, but beneath those extreme emotions, there was something else, panic, hidden in the depths of his gaze.
Qi Xiaolin’s knuckles turned white as he clenched his fists, his tone cold and lethal. “If he is gone, none of you will live!”
As he spoke, the sound of the front door opening drew everyone’s attention to the entrance.
