Could it really be such a coincidence? She had picked a random time to visit Old Mrs. Shen, and she just happened to run into Shen Ci?

Old Mrs. Shen saw the panic on the young woman’s face and gently patted Yan Shi’s hand, speaking in a soft, comforting tone. “Don’t be afraid, Shishi. Grandma is here. In the Shen family, you are the only young mistress. No matter who anyone else is, they don’t count.”

“No… Grandma, I still have things to do. I should go. I’ll come see you another day.” Yan Shi quickly rose to her feet, the tears in her eyes instantly frightened away.Full novel: After Divorce, President Shen Nightly Climbs the Window With Their Cute Baby to Chase His Wife — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Shishi, Grandma knows you’re still angry with Xiao Ci. Our Shen family has already raised Shen Qianqian and done right by her. I will never let Xiao Ci divorce you to marry her.”

Old Mrs. Shen gripped Yan Shi’s hand tightly, afraid she would leave right away.

She knew full well that both of them were lying to her. Perhaps Yan Shi hadn’t seen Shen Ci in a long time—how could two people who never met ever reconcile?

Today, no matter what, she had to create an opportunity for the two of them.

“No, Grandma, I’m not angry at Shen Ci. I know he and Shen Qianqian have nothing going on. I really did make plans with a friend. I’ll come see you next time.”

Yan Shi looked embarrassed and, without caring about anything else, pushed away Old Mrs. Shen’s hand and tried to leave.

“Shishi!” Old Mrs. Shen struggled to get up, her eyes full of hope and worry.

Yan Shi paused mid-step, her body stiffening slightly. After hesitating for a moment, she slowly turned around and gave the elderly woman in the hospital bed a gentle smile. “Grandma, don’t worry. I won’t divorce Shen Ci.”

Even if it was a white lie.

As long as Old Mrs. Shen could stay in the hospital and rest peacefully, what did it matter if she told a lie?

Perhaps Shen Ci would soon convince Old Mrs. Shen to accept reality, and by then she wouldn’t have much chance to see her again anyway.

Old Mrs. Shen nodded with satisfaction, watching the frail figure walk out of the ward.

Yan Shi kept her head down and hurried to the elevator. Just as she raised her hand to press the button, she noticed the elevator was going up—only two floors away.

Oh no! Shen Ci was already here.

Yan Shi’s expression changed instantly, and she quickly ducked into the stairwell.

At that same moment, with a “ding,” the elevator doors opened.

Shen Ci stepped out of the elevator in long strides, holding a bouquet of jasmine in his hands, and walked toward the ward.

Through the gap, Yan Shi caught a glimpse of that tall, upright figure growing farther and farther away—cold and unapproachable, just as he had always been. It seemed Shen Ci had been doing quite well lately.

Yan Shi’s gaze turned icy. She turned and headed downstairs, unconsciously quickening her pace.

Grandma would definitely mention to Shen Ci that she had come by, so she had to leave before he could chase after her.

Two minutes later.

Shen Ci pushed open the ward door abruptly, then strode quickly toward the elevator. Seeing that the elevator was still on the top floor, he furrowed his brow, took out his phone, and called the hospital director. He pushed open the stairwell door—empty.

“Immediately seal off all exits of the hospital. Find a woman named Yan Shi. She should be wearing a nurse’s uniform.”

“Yes, Mr. Shen.” The director answered in a trembling voice.

That woman had vanished without a trace, and now she dared to show up openly—was she toying with him?

Shen Ci gripped his phone tightly and pressed the elevator button.

First floor.

“What’s going on? Why are the doors being sealed?”

“Yeah, why won’t they let us out?”

At the entrance, clueless onlookers kept shouting and jeering.

A group of security guards blocked the doorway, carefully scrutinizing every person trying to leave.

Yan Shi kept her head down as she emerged from the stairwell, having descended more than twenty flights of stairs. Her legs were already feeling weak.

Hearing the commotion, Yan Shi’s footsteps faltered.

Damn it!

She was too late!

“President Shen!”

Someone behind her exclaimed in surprise.

Yan Shi immediately turned sideways toward the corner, burying her head low.

Footsteps passed behind her as Shen Ci headed straight for the entrance.

Judging by his demeanor, Shen Ci wouldn’t give up until he found her.

Yan Shi’s heart raced. She quietly scanned her surroundings when suddenly a familiar figure caught her eye.

“Mr. Fu, please wait a moment. I’ll go check ahead.” The administrative director nodded at Fu Xushu, then quickly hurried to the entrance to inquire about the situation.

Fu Xushu raised his hand and glanced at the time on his wristwatch.

“Dr. Fu?” Yan Shi spoke tentatively.

The man turned his head, seeing Yan Shi’s bewildered expression.

“It’s me. I came to see you for a check-up before. Do you remember me, Dr. Fu?” Yan Shi immediately stepped forward, using the green potted plants in the corner to conceal herself.

Seeing that he still seemed puzzled, Yan Shi suddenly realized and pulled off the mask from her face.

“Miss Yan? It’s you.” Fu Xushu’s eyes held a smile as he couldn’t help but size up the woman before him.

A nurse? That didn’t seem quite right—the nurse’s uniform hung loose and ill-fitting on her, clearly not her size.

“Dr. Fu, what a coincidence. What are you doing here?” Yan Shi kept watching the entrance from the corner of her eye.

Shen Ci’s attention was focused on the female targets heading for the exit; he hadn’t noticed her yet.

“I’ve been invited by Huaxin to give a lecture and training session. Miss Yan, do you work here?” Fu Xushu’s tone was gentle. “By the way, you mentioned last time that you weren’t feeling well during your check-up. Are you feeling any better now?”

Yan Shi’s eyes darted around. Perhaps Fu Xushu was the only one who could help her now: “Ah, I was just about to tell you—I’m still not feeling well. I might need you to examine me again.”

Just as she finished speaking, the administrative director hurried over. Without noticing the woman in the corner, he said directly, “Dr. Fu, there’s a bit of a situation at the entrance. Let me take you through the staff passage.”

Hearing this, Fu Xushu glanced toward the entrance, where a tall, cold figure caught his eye.

That was…

Fu Xushu withdrew his gaze and looked at the distracted woman before him, understanding dawning on him.

“Miss Yan, you said you weren’t feeling well just now. Why don’t you come back with me for an examination now? Discomfort in the body is no small matter—don’t take it lightly.”

His sincere invitation and concern were like a lifeline in a snowstorm, a timely rain from the heavens for Yan Shi at this moment.

“Yes, yes. Thank you, Dr. Fu. You’re truly a wonderful doctor.”

Yan Shi secretly rejoiced, obediently staying close to Fu Xushu’s side as they openly took the staff passage straight down to the underground parking garage.

The driver came around to open the door for her, and only then did she notice that Fu Xushu’s car was a fully loaded Maybach—especially the license plate, which looked somewhat familiar.

“Third Young Master, shall we head back to the old residence now?” the driver asked respectfully.

“Back to the hospital first.” Fu Xushu took a blanket from the storage compartment and handed it to the person beside him.

“The air conditioning is a bit cold. Keep warm.”

“Thank you, Dr. Fu, for going through all this trouble.” Yan Shi spoke, but her gaze remained fixed on the window.

Only when the car drove out of the underground garage and left the hospital premises did she finally let out a complete sigh of relief.

“Miss Yan is still avoiding that Mr. Shen?” Fu Xushu’s calm tone, paired with a gentle smile, gave off a very warm and approachable impression.

Yan Shi blushed. “You saw all that just now, and you still helped me…”

She had thought Fu Xushu knew nothing about it, but it turned out he was far more perceptive than she had expected.

“Isn’t it my duty as a doctor to ease my patient’s worries?” Fu Xushu maintained an appropriate distance.

Because he was scheduled for a lecture and teaching session, he was dressed in a light gray suit with his hair impeccably styled, appearing even more approachable than when he was at the hospital.

Both were wearing suits, yet Shen Ci gave off an icy, unapproachable vibe, while Fu Xushu was completely different.

Wait… Fu Xushu… that license plate belonged to the Fu family, and just now the driver had addressed Fu Xushu as Third Young Master…

Could it be that the Dr. Fu before her was the Third Young Master of the Fu family?
