Ang stared in utter disbelief, unsure whether it was the fluffball’s brain that had malfunctioned or if it was an effect caused by that mushroom a fluffball magical beast was actually courting a human mage!
Merlin didn’t react at first after all, what was happening before him was far too astonishing. He had never imagined that a magical beast without intelligence would court a human. It wasn’t until those heart-shaped pink bubbles drifted almost right up to his face that Merlin finally snapped out of it, and an utterly awful expression involuntarily flashed across his features.
He took no pleasure whatsoever in being courted by a fluffball magical beast in fact, he felt goosebumps rising all over his skin.
Especially when his peripheral vision caught sight of Ang’s shocked, almost excited expression beside him, which made him even more displeased.
This conman really was a pervert a pervert who liked beast-human pairings!
Merlin composed his expression, refusing to reveal his vicious nature, and strove to embody the warm, enthusiastic big-dog personality of William, the identity he was disguised as. He put on a look of awkward amusement: “How did this happen? Could inhaling those mushroom spores cause cognitive confusion?”
Was that also why he had ended up in bed with Ang last night because of this cognitive confusion?
The thought that he had been brought low by such a tiny mushroom made Merlin feel incredibly unlucky.
Ang looked at Merlin, then at the fluffball: “I think this fluffball might be the one we ran into earlier. It seemed to like you quite a bit back then could it be related to your magical attributes?”
Merlin turned and stared intently at the fluffball, but fluffballs all looked more or less the same, and Merlin couldn’t tell what differences existed between them. Still, judging by its behavior, it did seem somewhat like the pink fluffball they had encountered before.
He took a step back to put distance between himself and the fluffball that was courting him, but unexpectedly, the fluffball trotted right along with Merlin’s movement, scurrying over and flopping down at his feet again.
Merlin:
Merlin ground his teeth inwardly. This fluffball truly was a low-tier magical beast with absolutely no intelligence whatsoever. Did the two of them share any resemblance? By fluffball standards of beauty, it should prefer something fluffy and furry and the only fluffy thing about him was his hair!
This fluffball was indeed a brainless fool!
But before Merlin could even organize his expression and speak, the fluffball suddenly leaped upward, clawed onto Merlin’s trousers, and scurried up his body in one smooth motion.
This startled both of them, and Merlin immediately reached out to yank the fluffball off of him.
But being a wild creature, the fluffball’s reaction speed was lightning-fast, and Merlin simply couldn’t grab hold of it. Before he even knew what was happening, the fluffball was already lunging toward his face!
At that moment, Merlin’s expression truly changed drastically. What did this fluffball think it was doing? Trying to take advantage of him?! He had just been taken advantage of by someone there was absolutely no way he’d let a second person do the same no wait, he absolutely could not let a magical beast take advantage of him, or where would he even put his face?!
In his panic, Merlin had clearly made the wrong choice he should have used magic to fling the fluffy ball off himself rather than grabbing at it with his bare hands.
But Ange, watching from the side, reacted just quickly enough. He raised his staff and levitated the fluffy ball just before it could pounce onto Merlin’s face.
At that very moment, the pink fur on the creature nearly brushed against Merlin’s cheek!
Merlin stared at the ball about to lunge at his face, cold sweat nearly breaking out all over him. He was about to step back when he saw the levitated creature puff up its cheeks in grievance, its glossy black eyes wide with hurt. It stopped blowing bubbles entirely, and instead every strand of its fur bristled outward, making it look even more like a fuzzy ball of fluff.
Merlin hurriedly tried to retreat, but in the next instant, the creature began tumbling wildly in midair, like a cat rolling over for belly rubs!
The tumbling motion clearly stirred the surrounding air. Even though Merlin stepped back in time, he still felt his nose tickle. After backing several paces away, he couldn’t help but sneeze.
Then Merlin felt like he’d overlooked something.
Seeing Merlin retreat at lightning speed, the tumbling ball grew even more distressed. It began letting out pitiful squeaks, desperately trying to launch itself at Merlin.
But Ange held it suspended with his levitation spell, and no matter how it struggled, it couldn’t break free only spinning in circles within that confined patch of air.
“Um, should I tell William that the fluffy ball was just right next to that mushroom? It’s very likely already contaminated with the spores it sprayed. You might have caught it too.”
Merlin, sensing something was off:
No how did things end up like this? He absolutely must have had a brain freeze not to use his staff just now!!
Merlin wished he had time magic to rewind back to before the creature had scrambled up onto him. How could he be so stupid and to make it worse, to be stupid in front of Ange of all people? He was dumber than a con man!
Especially since this con man had just safeguarded his chastity wait, could this all be some trick of that swindler’s?!
Merlin cast a suspicious glance at Ange, and then he began to feel something off in his body.
His body felt hot, and a faint urge seemed to stir from deep within him, creeping downward…
No this reaction hadn’t been nearly this intense before. Merlin remembered that yesterday, he hadn’t felt this way until after he’d emerged from Les Forest. Why was it happening today?
Could it be that he’d unknowingly inhaled enough spores already?
No if that were the case, why was Ange completely unaffected?
Merlin looked at Ange, and suddenly everything about him seemed pleasing to the eye. Even though he knew in his heart that the man was a swindler, he couldn’t help but walk toward him.
Ange sensed something was wrong. Could the effects really kick in this fast?
Humans were nothing like those tiny fluffy ball magical beasts, after all the dosage required differed between the two. A dose that acted slowly on a human would likely take effect immediately on a creature as small as that fluffy ball.
That was why they hadn’t thought anything of the creature immediately trying to court Merlin.
But why was Merlin suddenly acting strange now?
Ang saw that Merlin’s face was already flushed with an unusual redness, and his eyes even held a hazy, dreamy quality yet beneath that haze, Ang had already glimpsed the desire hidden underneath.
At first, Merlin’s steps toward him were hesitant and dragging, but as he moved, his pace quickened, until at last he was practically lunging forward!
