“The next patient is here. Why are there so many people coming to see me today? I’m on the night shift and it’s this busy. You should leave quickly, I need to see the next patient.” The Contractor urged Merlin to leave, completely shedding the mysterious image he had before.
Merlin’s mind was completely devoid of any new questions. The knocking outside was still urging him on, forcing him to break out in a cold sweat as he steeled himself to head to the door.
Before he could even reach out to open it, the Contractor had already opened the door automatically.
Merlin was filled with dread, so the moment the door swung open, he immediately used his staff to alter his appearance.
This was a random magic, a sort of trick spell. The disguise effect was entirely random. Many mages used this spell as a wager when playing games, watching their friends transform into all sorts of bizarre and ridiculous forms.
The next patient, seeing the open door, was about to walk straight in when he laid eyes on the cat-eared maiden before him.
The patient’s eyes lit up. The figure before him had a beautiful, androgynous face. Even though a cloak draped over them, it was an exquisite piece adorned with embroidery and lace.
What especially caught his attention were the pair of lovely, alluring cat ears poking through the cloak, twitching ever so slightly, along with the long black tail swaying behind them. The patient desperately wanted to ask for their name.
But this cat-eared girl’s gaze was icy cold, her cat-like golden pupils glaring at the patient with menace, rendering him speechless. He could only watch with regret as she strode away.
The Contractor, well-versed in such matters, noticed that Merlin had cast a random disguise spell on himself. Recalling Merlin’s earlier reluctance to leave, combined with his sudden transformation just before exiting the room, he immediately pieced together what was going on.
Tsk, tsk, tsk. It looked like this handsome fellow had gotten himself into some romantic trouble. Perhaps the person he was contracted with wasn’t his lover, and now, after coming for treatment, his real partner had caught wind of something and chased after him to catch him in the act?
The Contractor looked at the closed door with some disappointment. Every room in their hospital had a separate soundproofing formation with superb insulation, so even if there was drama, he couldn’t hear a thing.
“The test results are finally out!”
Relying on sheer willpower to keep his head lowered so no one could see his face, Merlin caught a glimpse from the corner of his eye of Ange suddenly leaping up from his seat. The man hadn’t noticed at all that the person walking past him was that perverted stalker William. Clutching the now-glowing slip in his hand, he dashed straight toward his goal.
“Didn’t expect to run into a cat-type beastkin girl. Those cat ears twitching are just adorable! And that tail! Though compared to a cat-human hybrid, I still prefer actual cats.”
Merlin’s body stiffened, and he began grinding his teeth. That liar really was a pervert who liked beast-kin!
He hadn’t expected that even with his head deliberately lowered to hide his face, the man would still notice his cat ears and tail.
That damned random disguise spell, why did it have to turn him into a cat-eared maiden of all things!
If any acquaintance saw him like this, he’d definitely be laughed at for three days and three nights straight!
But hearing the sound of the other person’s footsteps running off into the distance, and no longer picking up their thoughts, Merlin finally breathed a sigh of relief. He didn’t want to stay in this dangerous place any longer. Since the examination results were already out, he quickly left.
On the other side, Ange received his bloodline test report.
“Wood-type, herbivorous magical creature?” Yes, that’s what was written on the report such a broad category.
Below it listed the magical creatures that fell within this category, which was an incredibly long string of names, including both common magical creatures and extremely rare ones, leaving Ange utterly dazzled.
However, after learning that the magical creature bloodline within him didn’t conflict with his original magical talent, Ange breathed a huge sigh of relief.
But then, recalling what the doctor had said earlier about possibly being in heat, Ange’s face scrunched up again.
He didn’t have many acquaintances in this town, and casually touching other people would mean worrying about his own safety.
So Ange mustered up his courage and went back to the emergency doctor.
Fortunately, there were no patients waiting at this time, so Ange pushed the door open and went straight in, looking at the other person with a pitiful expression: “I still don’t think this is because of being in heat, so Doctor, could I touch you, and you can see what’s going on?”
The doctor’s face immediately changed drastically: “No way, absolutely not! If you dare to do that, I’ll throw you out directly! And if something goes wrong, wouldn’t you complain about me for sexual harassment?”
Ange:
In the end, Ange could only leave the hospital with a mournful face. Besides taking the test report, he had also tragically lost his coins.
This was the food money he had painstakingly saved up. Originally, according to his plan, if he worked here for the summer, he could save up enough for his food expenses at Grenor Magic Academy. But now, after all this trouble, even his tuition had taken a hit.
Ange felt completely dejected. How could he be so unlucky today?!
Because of his bad mood, Ange felt exhausted all over, so he didn’t want to take the long way around and decided to cut through an alley as a shortcut.
But just as he stepped into the alley, Ange’s keen hearing picked up some suspicious sounds: “Hey there, miss beastgirl, I feel like we’d really hit it off. Can I buy you a drink?”
“Hmm? Why does that voice sound so greasy, just full of disgusting vibes! Is someone being harassed?”
Ange quickly looked into the alley and saw several men who clearly looked sleazy, with hair dyed in a mess of colors, blocking a girl wearing a hood, with cat ears on her head and a long cat tail swishing behind her.
The girl looked so familiar especially her unique, beautiful cloak. Wasn’t she the person Ange had happened to run into at the hospital?
But at the time, Ange had been in a hurry to pick up his test report and hadn’t gotten a look at her face.
“Why aren’t you saying anything? Not saying anything means you agree? Damn, are you mute? But even a mute can make noise in bed. Pretty lady, come play with us for a bit.”
When Merlin heard Ange’s thoughts, he was practically bristling with fury. He had already quickened his pace, desperate to get away from this place, only to find himself cornered here by this gang of thuggish ruffians and to make matters worse, Ange had shown up at that very moment!
His appearance was an absolute curse, especially since this random disguise spell couldn’t be canceled. Whoever invented this spell must have done so just to humiliate people!
So poor Merlin, thanks to his ridiculous getup, was stopped before he could even leave the hospital by people wanting to get to know him, and in the end, he ended up running straight into Ange, who had come out much later!
