Merlin: What kind of yandere pervert? Does he have even the slightest connection to those two words?

And besides, you’re already a liar, why would you be afraid of a pervert?

But he is absolutely not some kind of pervert!

Yet in this situation, how could Merlin possibly explain?

It seemed this guy hadn’t even started university yet, but his wariness was truly too high, he’d caught the problem from that tiny detail about the fluffball!

The fluffball that had just pounced had landed directly on his foot, which created that slight illusion of floating. An ordinary person might not have noticed it, but Ange was far too sharp, directly casting magic to attack him!

Facing this magic, Merlin had no choice but to fight back to protect himself. Otherwise, he would definitely be injured, or might even be strangled to death by the vines!

In this situation, Merlin forced tears into his eyes and looked at Ange with a face full of infatuation and pitifulness: “I’m sorry, I just… I just wanted to see you so badly. After you left, I only meant to wander around the town to clear my head, but I never expected to run into you again just as I was about to enter the Les Forest. I was afraid you wouldn’t want to meet me after all, we’d agreed to see each other tomorrow night so I instinctively used an invisibility spell, only wanting to quietly follow behind you and protect you.”

Looking at Merlin, who was gazing at him like a pitiful little puppy, Ange couldn’t help but soften slightly.

“It does sound quite reasonable, but doesn’t this seem a bit perverted no matter how you look at it? Why cast an invisibility spell and follow me? Is he planning to do something while I’m off guard?”

At the thought, goosebumps were about to break out all over Ange.

Hearing Ange’s inner thoughts, Merlin was grinding his teeth inwardly. How could he possibly do anything to this liar? He wouldn’t do even a single thing of what the other was imagining! He wouldn’t even touch him!

Merlin felt that today was the day he’d endured the most grievances in his life even worse than being surrounded by a crowd confessing to him. Why would there be a person like this? And this kind of liar could still obtain information about his own sister!

“Could this kind of perverted stalking behavior prove that he’s the one most likely to have placed this curse on me? Because of a pervert’s obsession this probably isn’t love at all, but rather him taking a fancy to my looks and wanting to control me. That’s why he created something like a contract, forcing me to get close to him?”

Just thinking about these things, even though Merlin had such a handsome face, Ange still felt a chill run through his body and instinctively took a step back.

Merlin: !!! Say it again he did not take a fancy to his looks! Who would want to control this liar!

No wait, he did want to control this liar, to force him to reveal where he’d gotten news of his sister but it was absolutely nothing like what this person with nothing but messy thoughts in his head was imagining!

“Ange, I really just happened to run into you. I won’t ever do this again. If you don’t want to see me, I’ll leave right now and will never do anything like stalking you again!” Merlin’s tears fell, a complete picture of a handsome man weeping, pitiful and endearing.

But Ange, listening to what the other said and looking at how he burst into tears in an instant, felt his heart grow even colder despite how pitiful and endearing it seemed.

“What do you mean you’ll never do it again? That’s classic scumbag talk he’ll definitely do it again. How could a scumbag’s words ever be true?”

Merlin: This liar is pretty wary.

Just as the two were at a bit of an impasse, the fluffy ball floating in midair via Angel’s levitation magic was curiously swaying its fuzzy pink body, continuously blowing bubbles from its mouth.

Those pink bubbles drifted around, scattering around the tear-streaked handsome Merlin, giving Angel a strong urge to take a photo.

“Not gonna lie, that face really is quite handsome. With those pink bubbles around, if I find the right angle, it’d definitely be a killer shot. No, I can’t be swayed by his good looks!”

Merlin:

Merlin felt complicated this liar seemed a bit… odd somehow. Then again, if he weren’t odd, how could he be a liar?

Angel had no idea how to respond to the tearful handsome Merlin. His mind was racing, especially since there seemed to be some kind of special contract on him that prevented him from simply driving the other man away.

If his life really was tied to Merlin alone, Angel felt he was doomed this guy was a genuine pervert!

Just as the two were locked in a subtle standoff, they suddenly heard faint, agonized screams from afar.

The fluffy ball floating in the air turned to look as well, letting out squeaking noises.

Angel exchanged a glance with the tearful handsome Merlin, and miraculously, they understood each other’s intent.

Pause the argument for now go see what was happening over there. If someone was injured, they could go rescue them.

Both thought almost simultaneously, “Who knew that pervert/liar would actually be this kind-hearted.”

“Maybe this guy is just a pervert in romantic matters but kind in everything else,” Angel thought to himself.

Merlin heard Angel’s inner voice, caught the meaning in his eyes, and sneered inwardly. This guy was probably just putting on a show of kindness to deceive him a masterful liar with incredible acting skills!

Angel waved his hand, letting the fluffy ball land steadily, then rushed off with Merlin toward the source of the sound.

Both instinctively cast an acceleration spell on themselves Swift as the Wind, which made them unconsciously glance at each other again.

Well, at their current level, there were only a few acceleration spells available, and the fastest was Swift as the Wind. It was only natural they’d both use the same one.

As they rapidly closed in, they heard the sounds more clearly.

After the initial agonized scream came intermittent cries of pain, the desperate scrambling of someone fleeing, and the sound of attack magic landing.

From the sounds alone, Angel judged there was at least one mage fighting. This made him and Merlin slow their pace slightly, concealing their presence more carefully.

They still didn’t know the strength of either side. If they barged in recklessly to intervene and ended up losing their own lives, that would be the end.

Angel and Merlin exchanged another glance. At this moment, it was as if their minds were linked, and once again, they understood each other perfectly.

Merlin activated the concealment function of the magical artifact he carried Vanishing Trace!

Ange, on the other hand, used his more proficient wood-based concealment spell Blend with the Weeds.

Although they had slowed their approach compared to before, the pace hadn’t dropped by much, so they quickly neared the scene of the incident.

Ange saw a person lying on the ground, bleeding profusely. Since the person had his back to him, Ange couldn’t make out his face, but he imagined the man must look utterly disheveled.

Gold-type magic lingered around the man, but the magical energy was already scant, clearly nearly depleted.

The person standing opposite the one on the ground was clearly visible to Ange. He was a young man with handsome features. The energy swirling around him wasn’t magical at all combined with the sharp knight’s lance in his hand, it was evident that he was a knight!

The tip of the lance was stained with fresh blood, and it was now pointed directly at the man on the ground, with blood still slowly dripping from it.

“So the reason you took me in was for my magic phone?”

“Otherwise, why would I take in someone like you, who can’t even tell wheat from chaff? Because I’m rich? Even if I were rich, I wouldn’t waste it like this!” The man holding the lance sneered. “Having to endure your disgusting gaze every single day makes me want to vomit! Mephitis, it’s time for me to claim my reward!”

Ange was utterly stunned.

“Mephitis so this is the guy who developed the magic phone?! Wait, where’s the protagonist? Why hasn’t the protagonist shown up?”

Though his mind was reeling with shock, Ange’s hands moved without hesitation, because the man with the lance was about to run Mephitis through!

Ange instantly swung his staff and unleashed his most powerful offensive spell Vine Rampage!

Meanwhile, Merlin, who had already crept invisibly close to the two, also swung his staff, Ice Arrow!

A gleaming ice arrow, shimmering with sharp cold light, struck the knight directly, while the vines that burst forth in explosive growth tightly bound him in place. The knight’s lance was merely a hair’s breadth from the throat of the man on the ground, and the blood on its tip had already dripped onto his neck.

Seeing the knight subdued, Ange and Merlin revealed themselves and hurriedly helped Mephitis up from the ground, moving him away from the lance.

Merlin fed Mephitis a healing potion, while Ange directly cast the spell that everyone entering Les Forest was required to learn the Alarm Spell.

As the staff pointed toward the sky, a vivid crimson lion suddenly materialized in the air, roaring ferociously in one direction with claws bared, lasting a full ten seconds before fading completely.

But despite all the commotion they’d caused, Mephitis seemed utterly devoid of will to live, remaining silent as they tended to him, not uttering a single word.

The police arrived swiftly, riding in on griffins. After briefly assessing the situation, they loaded everyone onto the griffins and took them all back to the station.

After the statement was finally taken, Ange watched Mephistopheles, who answered questions only when facing the police but remained silent at all other times, and felt a complicated mix of emotions.

“When I was reading the novel back then, I thought the protagonist had gotten a huge bargain. But now, looking at it from Mephistopheles’ perspective, he really has hit a stroke of terrible luck. He finally found someone he liked, only to discover that the other party wanted his life and to monopolize his research results. That blow to Mephistopheles is simply too much to bear.”
