Jiang Yousheng didn’t bother going back; she left work immediately and called Lin Yang.
“This godforsaken job isn’t even worth keeping!”
“Stay home and rest. Tonight, I’ll take you out for a feast and introduce you to some handsome guys. Anyway, Gu Beichen is just a man you threw away first. If someone wants to scavenge through the trash, let her.”
Jiang Yousheng felt there was some logic to that. What was Gu Beichen even worth? Once she secured the company shares, she’d kick him to the curb. The thought made her feel much better.
Once home, Jiang Yousheng felt drained of all strength and collapsed onto the bed. She slept until dark, only getting up then to take a shower.
Beep. The door clicked open.
Having finished washing up, she sat on the sofa drying her hair. Thinking it was Lin Yang returning, she turned around—and her breath suddenly hitched.
Half of the man’s profile was caught in the dim light, his expression unreadable.
“How do you have the password to Yangyang’s place?” A wave of fury surged through Jiang Yousheng; she wanted to fork him right out the door.
“Zhou Jinghuai gave it to me.” Gu Beichen offered no further explanation as he strode inside.
Those two men had grown up thick as thieves.
Jiang Yousheng tried to push him away. “President Gu, I think it’s time you headed back!”
“Stop making a scene!” Gu Beichen tossed his coat carelessly onto the sofa and clamped his hand around her waist. “What are you acting out for now?”
Jiang Yousheng’s expression shifted slightly. “Didn’t you kick me out?”
“I said I’d arrange a new place for you. Why did you run here?” Gu Beichen reached out to pin her by the neck and leaned down to kiss her.
The crisp scent of sandalwood on him was laced with a trace of something sickly sweet. Had he just come from Su Mumu?
Jiang Yousheng turned her head away in disgust. “Is this your house?”
“Then come back with me.”
Jiang Yousheng pushed him off and took a few steps back. “I’m not going back with you unless you make Su Mumu move out. It’s either her or me. There’s no room for both.”
“Mumu is my fiancée. Do you really think you can compare to her?” Gu Beichen’s expression was impatient; he didn’t have much endurance left for her. “Is there no house for you to live in, or is the money in your card not enough? Just how long are you going to keep being this unreasonable!”
He was usually cold and taciturn; it must have been quite a struggle for him to say so much today. Was it all because of Su Mumu?
Jiang Yousheng’s gaze went blank as she bit her lip. She turned around, grabbed the black card he had given her back then, and hurled it at him. “Take it all back. Get out.”
Gu Beichen’s eyes turned icy. With a forceful flick of his hand, the card went skittering under the sofa. “Fine. You certainly have backbone.”
Bang!
The door slammed with a deafening roar. The sound hammered ruthlessly against Jiang Yousheng’s heart.
When Lin Yang returned, she found her sitting on the floor in the dark, leaning against the sofa, looking utterly defeated. The lights flickered on, and Jiang Yousheng looked up, her eyes red and her small face deathly pale.
“Baby, are you okay?” Lin Yang dropped her bag and rushed over.
“I’m hungry.” Jiang Yousheng clutched her stomach, looking miserable.
Ten minutes later, Lin Yang cooked a bowl of noodles for her. Jiang Yousheng took a few bites but had no appetite. “Yangyang, what should I do?”
She had truly provoked Gu Beichen today.
“You were a bit impulsive. You shouldn’t have given the card back. But we can’t keep indulging Gu Beichen’s rotten temper either.” Lin Yang felt a deep ache of sympathy for her. “Don’t overthink anything right now. If you don’t go back, what can Gu Beichen possibly do to you?”
“Get some sleep first. We’ll talk tomorrow.”
Having slept all day, Jiang Yousheng couldn’t fall asleep at night. She told Lin Yang about the leaked door code. Lin Yang immediately took her phone to the balcony to call Zhou Jinghuai.
“Who gave you permission to give my door code to someone else! I’ve changed the lock, and don’t you dare come to my house again!” Lin Yang hung up fuming before Zhou Jinghuai could utter a single word.
On the other end, Zhou Jinghuai looked back gloomily at the man sitting on the sofa. “Brother Beichen, look at the mess this made! I just got chewed out by Yangyang. Hurry up and take Jiang Yousheng back to your place.”
Gu Beichen sat there casually, his cuffs slightly rolled up, radiating a chilling aura. His eyes were closed, a cigarette held between his fingers as thin wisps of smoke rose. He acted as if he hadn’t heard a word Zhou Jinghuai said.
“Is she fighting with you because of Su Mumu?” Zhou Jinghuai put his phone away and walked over.
