When she got home, the housekeeper had already prepared dinner.
Just after she finished eating, she received a call from Gu Huaizhi’s driver.
“Miss Wen, Mr. Gu asked me to pick you up. He’s waiting for you at Lan Club.”
Wen Yu was stunned for a moment. She frowned slightly. “Okay. I’ll be right down.”
She had no idea why Gu Huaizhi wanted her to go there. Lan Club was where he usually met people for business discussions or went to relax.
After changing her clothes, she went downstairs and got into Gu Huaizhi’s Maybach.
In the car, Wen Yu stared at the neon lights rushing past the window, her thoughts in a mess.
She didn’t like places like this. She didn’t like the probing or suggestive looks she often received from people around her.
When they arrived at Lan Club, a waiter respectfully led her through the quiet, luxurious corridor to a private room with excellent privacy.
When the door opened, Gu Huaizhi was the only person inside.
He had taken off his suit jacket and was wearing only a white shirt, with two buttons undone at the collar. He leaned lazily against the sofa, swirling a glass of whiskey in his hand.
The room was filled with the faint scent of alcohol and cigars.
Seeing that no one else was there, Wen Yu quietly relaxed.
“Mr. Gu.” She walked over.
Gu Huaizhi raised his eyes and glanced at her. Under the lights, his gaze seemed deeper than usual, carrying a hint of drunken languor.
He pushed a velvet jewelry box that looked extremely expensive toward her on the coffee table.
“Take a look.”
His tone was indifferent, revealing no particular emotion.
Wen Yu stared at the box.
She remembered that whenever he returned from an auction, or whenever he felt that she had performed particularly well for a period of time, he would casually give her a piece of jewelry like this.
So he had called her here just to give her this?
After a few seconds of silence, she reached for the box and opened it.
Inside lay a diamond necklace.
At its center was a large, perfectly cut pear-shaped pink diamond, surrounded by a ring of dazzling white diamonds. Under the lights, it reflected brilliant flashes of color.
Even though Wen Yu knew little about jewelry, she could immediately tell that it was extraordinarily valuable.
“I saw it at the auction this afternoon. Thought it was decent, so I bought it. It’ll suit you.”
Gu Huaizhi took a sip of his drink, speaking casually.
She looked up at him with a faint smile and said softly, “It’s beautiful. Thank you, Mr. Gu.”
Gu Huaizhi nodded and continued drinking.
Wen Yu closed the jewelry box and carefully placed it in her bag.
Seeing that he was still drinking, she reminded him, “Don’t drink too much. Be careful your stomach starts hurting again.”
At that, Gu Huaizhi glanced at her, set down his glass, and let a faint smile curl across his lips.
“Do you care about me?”
Wen Yu’s eyes flickered.
Gu Huaizhi suddenly grabbed her wrist. She let out a startled cry and fell into his arms, ending up sitting on his thigh in an extremely intimate position.
“Heh…”
A low chuckle came from above her.
Wen Yu looked up and immediately met his unfathomable eyes. Perhaps it was just her imagination, but there seemed to be something deeply affectionate in his gaze.
Gu Huaizhi wrapped his other arm tightly around her waist, lowered his head, and kissed her hard on the lips.
His breathing grew heavier. The scent of whiskey filled Wen Yu’s nose, and the bitter-sweet taste of alcohol lingered in her mouth.
Perhaps the alcohol was finally taking effect. Gu Huaizhi’s skin gradually grew hot, and the palm pressed against her waist became scorching.
She felt uncomfortable and tried to shift, wanting to change positions. After moving only a couple of times, she felt something hard beneath her. Realizing what it was, she immediately stopped.
The man’s voice came shortly afterward, low and muffled.
“Don’t move…”
Wen Yu: “…”
She stiffened and remained completely still.
Gu Huaizhi buried his face in the crook of her neck, his hot breath brushing against her skin and making her shiver involuntarily.
They remained in the private room for a while longer. Only after Gu Huaizhi had recovered did he finally let her go.
“Let’s go…”
He stood up, straightened his wrinkled clothes, and walked toward the door.
Wen Yu followed behind him. When they left the private room, her cheeks were still flushed.
When the driver waiting downstairs saw them coming, he said nothing. With impeccable professionalism, he opened the car door and let Gu Huaizhi get in.
Wen Yu walked around to the other side, opened the door herself, and got in as well.
As soon as they returned home, Gu Huaizhi impatiently pressed her against the door.
He silently stared at her, something dark and turbulent seemingly surging deep within his eyes.
Wen Yu wanted to say something, but before she could speak, he suddenly pressed a hand against the small of her back and pulled her toward him, tightening his arms until their bodies were pressed closely together.
He lowered his head and kissed her without hesitation. The kiss was intense and possessive, as though he wanted to swallow her whole.
Their clothes gradually fell away one piece at a time. Wen Yu wrapped her arms around his neck and responded to him passionately.
From behind the door to the windowsill, from the sofa to the bed, and then to the bathroom, the entire apartment was left filled with an intimate, lingering atmosphere.
Wen Yu had no idea how or when she fell asleep.
When she woke in the middle of the night, there was no one beside her.
Her body felt clean and refreshed, without any lingering stickiness.
Thinking about how wild they had been that night, her face couldn’t help but heat up.
She got out of bed on unsteady legs and went to the bathroom. When she returned, she took a pill from the drawer and swallowed it directly.
The last time, they hadn’t used protection. At a time like this, she absolutely didn’t want to get pregnant.
Besides, just before she had fallen asleep, she vaguely remembered hearing him remind her to take the pill.
So he didn’t want his mistress to give birth to his child either.
Back in bed, the moment her head touched the pillow, she fell asleep.
She slept all the way until late morning before slowly waking up.
After washing up, she opened her bag and took out the jewelry box Gu Huaizhi had given her the night before.
She walked into the dressing room and opened the safe built into the wall in the corner.
After entering the combination, there was a soft beep, and the safe door popped open.
Inside were some of the gifts Gu Huaizhi had given her over the past five years—gemstones, necklaces, watches, and other valuables.
She placed the jewelry box inside and locked the safe.
Then she went to the living room and sat down on the sofa, browsing rental listings on her phone.
She had contacted a real estate agent, who told her about a farmhouse with a private yard. The house had two floors.
The agent said he would send her actual photos and a video today. If everything looked fine, she would finalize the rental.
As soon as she opened WeChat, a message from the agent popped up.
She opened it and found the photos and video he had sent.
The place looked quite good. The yard and house together covered roughly four to five hundred square meters.
The house was a two-story villa surrounded by walls, with broken glass embedded along the tops, making it look quite secure.
Apart from the concrete courtyard in front, there was open land behind the house and on both sides, which would give her plenty of space to grow vegetables and flowers.
Overall, the place looked very nice and suited her preferences.
After confirming everything with the agent, she transferred the deposit.
The agent quickly sent her a rental contract and asked her to read it carefully before replying.
Wen Yu replied with a simple acknowledgment and began going through the contract.
She didn’t know how long she would stay there. If her mother could recover her health there, she planned to stay for the long term.
If the place didn’t help, she would find somewhere else.
So for now, she decided to rent the house for a year.
And so, she spent the entire afternoon communicating with the agent on the island and confirming the rental arrangements.
