*Being doubted as a doctor, what should I do? Waiting online, urgent!!!*

Ji Yu twisted the edge of her sleeve and forced a dry smile. Her mind raced frantically. She had to salvage her reputation, gain his trust, and make him feel safe staying here.

The root of his doubt was simple: she hadn’t yet demonstrated reliable medical skills to prove her capability. Worse yet, the food she made had only made him sicker, causing him to be poisoned repeatedly.Full novel: After Mistakenly Picking Up The Villainous Male Supporting Character — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

If he were healthy, this weak poison wouldn’t affect him at all—just like her. She had been poisoned too, yet she felt perfectly fine.

But he was critically injured and his body was extremely weak. Even a tiny amount of toxin was enough to threaten his life.

To completely erase his suspicion, she needed to prove she could heal him. But healing deep wounds took time.

Therefore, the best approach right now wasn’t to treat his wounds, but to cure the poisoning from the well water immediately. If he felt better instantly, that would be undeniable proof.

Ji Yu put on a warm smile and held out the bowl. “Master Qi, this medicine will flush the toxins out of your body. Drink it while it’s hot, and you’ll feel much better soon.”

Nan Xing’s gaze fell on the porcelain bowl held by those slender, pale hands. He looked at the dark liquid for a moment, then shifted his eyes back to her face.

She wore an open, yet slightly ingratiating smile. He frowned subconsciously.

If he remembered correctly, this wasn’t the first time she looked at him like this. Strangely, it wasn’t annoying. It was nothing like the way people fawned over him back home just to please his mistress.

She was his savior. But why would a doctor look at a patient with such eagerness to please? Normally, *he* should be the one begging the doctor for careful treatment, not the other way around. It felt backwards.

He had known since waking up by the river that she was just an ordinary woman—no internal energy, no martial arts. Yet, ordinary women wouldn’t dare jump into a river to save a stranger. So, she was different.

If she was truly a doctor acting out of benevolence, then her actions made sense.

But based on his experience over the last half-day—being poisoned repeatedly, only to be revived by her again—he was certain she *was* a doctor, but her skills… were questionable.

Why poison him and then save him? What was her motive?

Nan Xing shot her a probing glance, looking away quickly before she noticed.

He pushed himself up with his palms, trying to sit higher, but his body was too weak. He failed and fell back onto the mattress. As he was about to fall again, a pair of cool, gentle hands steadied his arm and shoulder.

He looked up instinctively. Ji Yu met his gaze and smiled softly. “Careful.”

“Thank you.”

His tone was still cold, distant, and polite.

Leaning against the headboard with her help, he looked at the bowl offered to him again. This time, he took it without hesitation and drained it in one go.

As he placed the bowl down, a pale hand appeared before his eyes. Seeing what lay in her palm, Nan Xing froze.

Ji Yu smiled warmly. “Preserved fruit. Eat a few to get rid of the bitter taste.”

Under her expectant gaze, he took one and put it in his mouth. “…One is enough.”

Ji Yu didn’t press him. She put the rest back into her pouch, which she usually used to carry snacks.

“Master Qi, are you hungry? Or should I…”

Before she could finish, he interrupted hastily. “No, no need to trouble you. I am not hungry.”

The words had barely left his mouth when a loud, distinct *GURGLE* echoed from his stomach.

Ji Yu pressed her lips together tightly, fighting desperately to keep from laughing out loud.

He was terrified of her cooking! Look at how frightened this usually elegant nobleman had become.

Seeing the red flush creeping up his ears, she composed her face and explained seriously, “Master Qi, I never intended to poison you these past few times. The well water has been contaminated.”

“I only found out because my neighbor, Aunt Qiu, dragged me to see her grandson. He had been vomiting and fainting. That’s how I discovered the water was poisoned.”

“Luckily, it isn’t a lethal poison. Healthy people drinking it show almost no symptoms. But because you are already so badly injured, even a little toxin is dangerous, which is why your reaction was so severe.”

She paused, glancing secretly at him. Seeing him listening thoughtfully, she breathed a sigh of relief and continued, “I have already sprinkled special detoxification powder into the well. By tomorrow morning, the water will be safe to use again.”

“I have some pastries inside. I can bring them to you to fill your stomach.”

Hearing this, Nan Xing finally understood. He hadn’t been poisoned by *her*; it was truly the water.

Whether her story was entirely true or not, he was currently injured, helpless, and trapped here. Trusting her was the only logical option.

He nodded, the corner of his mouth twitching into a stiff smile, and cupped his hands in gratitude. “Then I shall trouble you, Miss Ji.”

“No trouble at all!” Ji Yu waved her hand cheerfully, took the bowl, and left the room.

After finishing the pastries, his stomach was mostly satisfied. He was wiping his mouth when Ji Yu pushed the door open again.

“Master Qi, I’m here to change your dressing.”
