BECKY
I never imagined in just a day my life would spiral so badly.
By the time the police arrived at school, the entire campus already knew something was wrong.
At first it had just been whispers.
But in no time the whispers turned to a full chaos.
Every lips had my name only…
“Did you hear what Becky did?”
“She paid those gangsters to kill someone!”
“Seriously?
That’s insane.
I never thought she’s so dangerous!”
“My cousin literally saw the cops talking to them!”
“I wonder who that person is!
Could it be any girl hitting on Damon?
Damn!
She’s crazy!”— The words floated through the hallways like poison in the air.
Yes, being the center of attention had been my dream ever since, but—not for this reason.
No!
The worst part happened when the cops walked into the campus.
Those stupid students were so curious, they started recording!
But thankfully, the teachers rushed them away from the hallway, yet, they were still trying to peek in.
But was it enough?— Never.
It was already too late.
Everyone had seen it now.
They were talking about it, while I could only stand frozen, unable to grasp the situation that had backfired.
One of the cops approached me…
“Miss Adams?” he asked.
Immediately my heart dropped.
I had never been in this situation before.
Still, I forced myself to stand straighter even though my stomach felt twisted into knots.
“Yes…” I swallowed hard.
“We’re going to need you to come with us for a few questions.”
And that was it.
My entire life was ruined.
The cops didn’t say much; they only gestured for me to walk.
I’d seen in movies that if people didn’t cooperate, cops forced them and I was already in a deep shit, I couldn’t afford it!
Therefore, I quietly followed them…
A hundred pairs of eyes followed me as they escorted me toward the police car waiting outside the gates.
The humiliation burned within me and at that moment all I wanted was to die…
_________
Thankfully, dad arrived as my saviour in less than an hour.
He didn’t say much though, only signed the paperwork to get me released.
The entire ride home passed in heavy quiet.
I glanced at dad a few times but I didn’t dare say anything.
Eventually, we reached home.
Still, dad didn’t say anything.
Was he not going to talk to me ever?
Was he just going to be silent?
Well, I realized I was wrong the moment we crossed the house entrance…
Before I knew it, his rough and big hand struck my cheek.
The sharp crack echoed through the walls.
The force made me stagger back, my hand flying to my face.
For a second I couldn’t even process what had just happened.
Dad— My Dad had hit me!?
I fell in disbelief as I stared at him wide-eyed.
“You foolish girl!” he shouted, his voice filled with fury I had never heard from him.
Not with me at least.
My cheek was still burning as I stared at him in stunned silence.
“Do you have any idea what you’ve done?” he spat angrily.
“Right now is the most critical period of my promotion, and your stupid behaviour just dragged my name through the mud!”
Tears blurred my vision as the shock finally caught up to me.
“Dad…
I—”
“Shut up!
Shut up you insolent girl!” His roar kept ringing in my ears still with the heat of the slap.
“Please, please calm down!
She’s scared!” Mom rushed to my side and thankfully held me in her arms.
Otherwise, I would have fallen by now.
“Baby, it’s alright.
Mama is here.” Her voice trembled with emotion as she glared at my father.
“Why would you hit her like that?
She’s your daughter!”
But Dad today didn’t feel like my own dad.
His anger only grew…
“Shut up!” He growled, making mom flinch as well.
“She’s like this because you spoiled her!” he hissed.
“Because of your daughter I have to face humiliation now!
Today I had to go to the police station because of her!”
“I should have hit her since she was born!”
Mom held me tighter only, trying to shield me from dad’s wrath.
I stood there stunned, my cheek still burning from the slap.
I didn’t know what to feel anymore.
Everything felt too much to accept!
_________
I wanted to avoid it but avoiding it would only determine their suspicion, so, I had to.
Though I avoided the bus and used our car.
Well, just a few hours Becky, you’ll be fine…
I tried to calm myself down.
However, it all broke when I entered the campus.
The whispers, the gazes— everything started haunting me and all I wanted was to drown myself into the soil.
The school administration had released a statement claiming the situation had been misunderstood.
The blame was given to the gangsters entirely, but— it didn’t matter.
The damage had already been done…
The students never stopped.
Even the girls who used to follow me, gave me side eyes.
That bathroom girl?— she wasn’t even near me as though she never had known me before.
The worst part was when Damon also looked different when he saw me…
He didn’t even greet me the way he usually did.
Instead he looked like he’d prefer keeping distance from me.
For the first time, he didn’t rush over to sit beside me.
Only when I asked, he came looking too reluctant, but left keeping the bag there.
For the first time I felt so low.
Pretending that nothing mattered, when each second of my life felt falling apart.
Humiliation twisted through my chest, burning my soul to an extent I never knew it was possible.
But beneath that humiliation, anger pulsated.
My fingers curled tightly around the edge of my desk.
One face flashed through my mind…
Veronica Demoor.
That name echoed through my mind like a curse.
Every whisper, every stare, every ounce of humiliation burning through me right now— All of this is because of her.
She’s the sole reason for this.
If she didn’t exist, nothing would have happened and I would have been enjoying my life with my family and friends.
Hatred stirred within me like a serpent.
Veronica Demoor— you may think you’ve won this time, I let you enjoy it.
But soon…
Soon you’ll know how exactly it feels to cross my way.
This wasn’t over Veronica.
Not fucking at all!
