Jiang Hua had a congenital heart condition and had undergone two heart transplants in her earlier years.

The Jiang Family, once the most prominent family in Di Du City, had long since fallen into decline.

Let alone Jiang Hua, who was leaving the house with nothing after the divorce, she had no money to find a suitable heart donor.

Six months ago, Jiang Hua received a critical diagnosis notice from the hospital. Her heart failure was already in its final stage.

That was also the day Jiang Hua had just found out…

Her husband of eight years had used his power, at any cost, to possess a woman and keep her by his side.

He had been secretly keeping her for eight years behind Jiang Hua’s back.

They even had a lively and adorable child.

He gave her a luxurious manor villa with over ten floors, a dozen servants to care for her, and countless bodyguards inside and out, as if he were afraid she would run away.

She was doted on by Pei Zhan like a princess from a fairy tale, enjoying the kind of affection Jiang Hua had never received.

Pei Zhan truly loved her to the extreme, as if… he couldn’t wait to present all the beautiful things in the world to her on a silver platter.

As Mrs. Pei, Jiang Hua had never enjoyed such treatment; she was humbled to the extreme…

Jiang Hua felt like a thief, or even more like a filthy rat from the sewers that couldn’t bear the light, secretly peeking at ‘her’ happiness, jealous of everything she had.

She wanted to see what kind of girl Pei Zhan loved.

After learning of ‘her’ existence, Jiang Hua developed severe depression.

She thought that if she could just be an understanding and obedient wife, he would come back to her.

But… at the final, critical moment of her life, Pei Zhan offered no explanation for his actions. He simply threw a divorce agreement at Jiang Hua…

That night, she had actually wanted to tell him that as long as he didn’t leave, she wouldn’t mind Song Qingran’s existence!

Pei Zhan had slammed the door and left. The reason for the divorce was simply that Song Qingran had found out about her.

She was unwilling to accept being the third party.

Perhaps because of this, Pei Zhan wanted to divorce Jiang Hua, just to give the other woman a proper title.

The immense shock caused Jiang Hua’s heart to give out, and she fell into a coma. When she opened her eyes again, she was already in the hospital.

She was too sick!

She had thought that if she could get better, Pei Zhan might have a change of heart, so…

Jiang Hua never signed the divorce agreement.

Half a year passed in the blink of an eye. Jiang Hua grew thinner by the day, knowing her illness was incurable.

Now, she could only rely on machines, clinging to life on her hospital bed.

In truth… with her end-stage heart failure, Jiang Hua was no longer a suitable candidate for a third heart transplant.

“I… I’m not going to make it. Could you give me a voice recorder?”

“After I die, please… help me give it to my husband…”

The nurse nodded, her voice choked with emotion. “Of course, Miss Jiang.”

Her end was near. At only thirty-two years old, Jiang Hua’s body was ravaged by illness. Now, only her left hand had any feeling.

She… probably wouldn’t live past this month…

Jiang Hua used her last ounce of strength to grip the voice recorder.

“…January 14th, 2015. Pei Zhan… can you hear my voice?”

“I know you don’t want to see me again, so this is the only way I can tell you the last things I want to say…”

“Pei Zhan… the doctor said… I’m in the final stage of heart failure. I’ve missed the best time for a heart transplant.”

“I feel… like I can’t hold on much longer…”

“January 15th, 2015. I was lucky today. The doctors worked to save me for three hours. I was very lucky and survived.”

“I thought I was going to die on the operating table today.”

“What should I do, Pei Zhan… I don’t want treatment anymore. I’m so tired. It feels like the medicine will never end…”

“The injections never stop…”

Jiang Hua’s voice was so weak it was almost inaudible. Her eye sockets were deeply sunken, an oxygen tube was in her nose, and her breathing was ragged.

She felt like she couldn’t hold on any longer, yet… she seemed to be using her very last breath to say everything she wanted to say.

She was afraid… if she didn’t say it now, it would be too late.

“January 18th, 2015. I had an operation. I thought… I would never see you again.”

“I’m so, so sick…”

“This might be the last time I record what I want to say to you.”

“I told the hospital to stop my medication. I’ve finally decided to give up on treatment!”

“Seeing your child, I can’t help but think how wonderful it would be if our child were still alive.”

“Back when I forced you to marry me, I should have also insisted on having a wedding with you. It’s such a shame… I never let you see me in a wedding dress.”

“I’ve already signed the divorce agreement…”

“The one who isn’t loved is the third party. Perhaps… that saying is right.”

“Pei Zhan… this divorce agreement is my final gift to you and Song Qingran.”

“Cough, cough, cough…” Suddenly, Jiang Hua started coughing, spitting out mouthfuls of blood. Her expression was pained, and her body convulsed, yet she insisted on finishing her last sentence…

“I wish you… and… Song Qingran a long and happy life together, full of peace and joy…”

Her voice grew fainter, fading bit by bit. She closed her eyes, and the last glimmer of light was gone…

Clatter. The voice recorder slipped from her hand. Outside the window, the heavy snow continued to fall.

Pei Zhan…

If there is a next life, let’s… not get entangled with each other again.

I’ll let you go, and I’ll let myself go too!

People’s Hospital.

On an operating table in the hospital.

“Miss Jiang, you’ve lost too much blood from the car accident. We might not be able to save the baby. I hope you can be mentally prepared.”

Who was speaking?

The voice in Jiang Hua’s ear was fuzzy, making it hard to hear what was being said. Her vision was blurry too.

After an unknown amount of time, the anesthesia took effect, and Jiang Hua fell into a deep sleep.

The miscarriage procedure ended, and Jiang Hua was wheeled into a hospital room.

The third day of Jiang Hua’s coma after the car accident.

Midnight.

After the anesthetic wore off, Jiang Hua faintly smelled the unpleasant scent of disinfectant. She slowly opened her eyes. Staring at the black shadow cast on the ceiling by the dim bedside lamp, she was in a daze.

“You’re awake?” A man’s deep and familiar voice sounded by her ear.

Jiang Hua slowly turned to look, and she froze.

“Pei Zhan?!” Jiang Hua didn’t know what she was feeling as she called out his name.

“Hm?” the man responded in a low voice.

“I… I’m not dead?”

She had clearly died. Why… was she still alive?

“You’ll be fine.”

Pei Zhan was wearing a gray shirt with a black suit jacket draped over his arm. He exuded a calm yet cold aura, and his presence felt distant and detached. His sinister eyes looked at her without a trace of warmth. He stood by her bed, and even the way he spoke was as if he were facing a complete stranger.

Because the man in front of her didn’t love her at all.

The only one he loved was perhaps…
