Song Qingran.

Otherwise, why would Pei Zhan be willing to obtain her at all costs?

Jiang Hua had investigated Song Qingran’s information, but Pei Zhan had protected her too well.

When Jiang Hua finally managed to see a photo after great effort, she nearly went mad!

In the photo, a family of three was in an upscale restaurant. Pei Zhan held a child in his arms, making a wish over a cake. Throughout the four seasons, he had never missed the child’s birthday. During the most important moments every year, Pei Zhan was always by their side.

But… Pei Zhan couldn’t even remember their wedding anniversary.

To give her a legitimate wedding, Pei Zhan threw her a divorce agreement.

Jiang Hua refused. After a fierce argument, he slammed the door and left, never to return.

Their last meeting was… the night before she died.

But now, seeing the man standing by the bed again—tall and straight—

Jiang Hua, lying on the hospital bed, felt her slender, frail body completely enveloped by his presence.

Besides the hospital’s disinfectant smell, Jiang Hua detected a not-unpleasant scent of tobacco and alcohol on him. Upon closer sniffing, there was also the sweet fragrance of another woman.

After staring at Pei Zhan for a long time,

Jiang Hua, who had been dazed for a while, slowly began to regain clarity.

Lying on the hospital bed, Jiang Hua looked at the man before her, tears streaming down uncontrollably.

Pei Zhan’s thin lips were pressed into a sharp line, his brow filled with exhaustion. He reached out to cup her face, using his rough thumb to wipe away the tears at the corner of her eyes. “…We can have another child in the future,” he whispered softly, comforting her now.

“Focus on recovering well in the hospital for now. I’ll find the person responsible for the car accident. Don’t overthink anything else.”

Jiang Hua didn’t respond to his words. Instead, she looked sorrowfully toward the floor-to-ceiling window, quietly lost in thought.

After a long while, Jiang Hua pushed his hand away in rejection, turning her head to avoid looking at him.

Seeing her like this, Pei Zhan didn’t say much. With a tone that held some concern, he told her, “Rest well. I’ll come see you again tomorrow.”

Without the slightest hesitation or pause in his movements, Pei Zhan stood up, left, and walked out of the hospital room.

Hearing the sound of the door closing, Jiang Hua stared at that door for a very, very long time…

Pei Zhan walked out of the room and stood on the tenth floor, his deep gaze fixed on the night scenery outside. In the corridor, his assistant Zuo Xiangnan emerged from the elevator holding a report. He stopped beside Pei Zhan. “…This is the young lady’s examination report.”

“Speak!” Pei Zhan didn’t look at him or take the report, his voice cold.

Zuo Xiangnan reported directly: “…The examination report indicates comminuted fractures in the legs, a mild concussion, and severe internal injuries.”

“Additionally, the young lady has congenital hereditary heart disease. After this incident, it’s likely she’ll have difficulty conceiving in the future.”

In short, it’s a miracle the young lady survived.

“The driver fled the scene, and police across the city are searching for him. In the chain collision three days ago, Miss Jiang was the only survivor…”

“Hmm.” Pei Zhan’s voice was indifferent, a flicker of unidentifiable gloom passing through his eyes.

There wasn’t the slightest hint of concern or worry in his tone; instead, it felt more like regret—regret that Jiang Hua had survived the car accident.

Though she was his wife, the man’s eyes held only cold indifference, as if she were nothing more than a stranger to him.

“How is everything at Fan Hua Si Jin?” Pei Zhan suddenly asked.

Zuo Xiangnan replied, “Everything is fine. Miss Song has started eating.”

Pei Zhan strode away from the hospital room door, seemingly unwilling to stay a moment longer. “I’ll be going to Haishi on a business trip for the next week.”

“Haishi? But President Pei, your schedule for this week…”

As if realizing something, Zuo Xiangnan immediately fell silent and said no more.

Inside a luxury car, the assistant, sitting in the driver’s seat, glanced at the rearview mirror and asked, “President Pei, shall we return to Huayuan or…”

“Go to Fan Hua Si Jin.”

“Yes.”

On the tenth floor, after the nurse watched the car drive away, she approached Jiang Hua’s bedside and said, “Miss Jiang, the car has left. It turned left.”

“I know. Thank you.” A faint smile touched Jiang Hua’s pale face. She had thought she no longer cared, but upon hearing this answer, her heart shattered into pieces, impossible to put back together.

“You’re welcome.” The nurse closed the door, leaving Jiang Hua alone in the cold hospital room.

She had asked the nurse to check which direction Pei Zhan’s car was heading, just to see where he was going!

And as Jiang Hua had suspected, Pei Zhan went to Song Qingran’s villa.

It was the castle he had built for her, where she lived like a princess, enjoying every luxury.

That night, Jiang Hua fell into a nightmare, drowning in her own pain.

During the midnight rounds, the nurse discovered Jiang Hua running a high fever—her temperature had reached 39 degrees Celsius.

The hurriedly summoned doctor frowned as he administered a fever-reducing injection. “The patient’s family is so irresponsible. In this condition, and no one by her side?”

“You! Go make a call and summon her relatives.”

The nurse replied nervously, “…We’ve already tried contacting them. The phone has been out of service.”

“What about other contacts?”

The nurse shook her head. “Aside from that gentleman, no other contact information was left.”

In the end, the doctor had no choice but to assign a nurse to watch over her temporarily.

Jiang Hua was still not out of the critical period.

There could be no room for carelessness.

Jiang Hua woke up the next morning, relieved that her fever had subsided.

Her eyes heavy, she stared blankly at the snow-white ceiling.

Soft footsteps approached, and someone spoke, “Young Miss, you’re awake?”

“Are you still feeling unwell? If anything hurts, tell me, and I’ll call the doctor.”

Jiang Hua felt her swollen eyes dry and sore. She shook her head. “I’m fine. Where’s Father? Does he know about the accident?”

“Sir doesn’t know yet. It was Mr. Pei’s assistant who called and asked me to come take care of you. Mr. Pei is going to Haishi on a business trip for a week. He said you should rest well in the hospital and behave. Don’t think Mr. Pei is cold and indifferent to everyone; he actually cares about you a lot. He was afraid you might overthink, which is why he asked me to come without telling Sir.”

Xu Qiulan was the nanny who had raised her since childhood. Aside from family, she was the closest person to Jiang Hua.

Jiang Hua leaned against the bed, her eyes lowered. In her quiet moments, she was as beautiful as a painting—her features exquisitely delicate, her hair cascading like a glossy black waterfall. Her beauty was the kind that left a lasting impression, striking and intense, like a vibrant rose adorned with sharp thorns. Yet… the current Jiang Hua was a flower without thorns, delicate and fragile.

The Jiang Family was the largest jewelry merchant in the capital, and she was the heiress of this prominent jewelry empire.

Seeing that Jiang Hua remained silent, Xu Qiulan spoke softly, “Miss, if you’re missing Mr. Pei, you could give him a call.”
