Qu Jinxin's footsteps abruptly halted. This voice… it had appeared again!

Could it be that she wasn't just hearing things?

She suddenly grabbed Wen Zehai's sleeve.Full novel: After My Love-Struck Mother Read My Mind, She Kicked Out My Scumbag Father and Divorced Him — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

"Wait a moment!"

"What's wrong?"

Qu Jinxin stepped forward, carefully examining the child in Wen Zehai's arms, studying the child's features closely.

Upon closer inspection, the more she looked, the more the child resembled Han Suyin.

Especially those eyes—they were exactly like Han Suyin's.

Her heart skipped a beat as she looked up at Wen Zehai.

"Is this child really mine? The more I look, the more it seems like Suyin's child?"

Wen Zehai's expression stiffened, then he forced a dry laugh.

"What nonsense are you talking about? How could I mistake our own child? Are you too tired? Is that why strange thoughts are running through your head?"

"Is it really just because I'm too tired?"

She couldn't help but turn to look at Wen Qianqian on the bed.

The child desperately pushed aside the blanket, her eyes—so much like Qu Jinxin's own—gazing at her with longing, as if she were about to cry out "Mother" at any moment.

Qu Jinxin furrowed her brows tightly.

"No, something's wrong. This isn't my child. The one on the bed is… Midwife! You're the one who brought the child over. Tell me, did we mix up the babies?"

The midwife had long been bribed by the two of them. She smiled at the question and said, "Madam Baihu, you haven't mixed up anything. The one in your husband's arms is the one you gave birth to. This old woman may be advanced in years, but I wouldn't make a mistake on something this important."

"Did you hear that, Jinxin? This is our child. Don't let your mind run wild and try to take Suyin's child as your own."

Han Suyin immediately hugged Wen Qianqian tightly, putting on an indignant expression as she said, "Sister, I know your family is well-off, but you can't use your status to try and take my child away. I risked my life to give birth to her."

Wen Zehai chimed in from the side.

"Suyin, don't think such things. Your sister-in-law just gave birth, so her mind is a bit muddled. How could we ever do something like that? Jinxin, apologize to Suyin right now."

Qu Jinxin hesitated.

"Is it really… my problem?"

"Of course it is! Jinxin, go back now. You look terrible—come back with me and lie down to rest. If anything happens to you, I couldn't go on living either."

Wen Qianqian grew anxious.

She immediately used her Spiritual Power to say, "Mother, don't believe them! They're trying to swap me out so their child can become the true young miss!"

Qu Jinxin's eyes widened.

Their child?

What did that mean?

They—who were "they"?

Seeing that Qu Jinxin was still frozen in place, Wen Qianqian had a flash of inspiration and said, "Mother, look at the birthmark on that ugly monkey's hand! She has a birthmark on the back of her hand exactly like Han Suyin's!"

Hearing this, Qu Jinxin grabbed the newborn's hand from Wen Zehai's arms and indeed saw a birthmark identical to the one on Han Suyin's hand.

She and Wen Zehai had been in the countryside on official business for some time now, and she had seen the birthmark on Han Suyin's hand more than once.

Could these two people really be trying to swap her precious baby?

Was Wen Zehai really so partial to his cousin that he would go this far?!

Anger surged within her as she raised the child's hand and said, "Husband, you say this is our child, so why does she have a birthmark on the back of her hand that's exactly the same as the one on Suyin's hand?"

Both Wen Zehai and Han Suyin's hearts skipped a beat.

Wen Qianqian seized the opportunity to continue speaking through her thoughts: "Mother, that midwife has been bribed by them. Save me, quick! If you take the wrong child, I'll be tortured to death by this wicked woman!"

Qu Jinxin listened to that voice calling her "Mother." Although neither newborn had opened their mouths, she had a feeling in her heart.

The one speaking was the child in Han Suyin's arms.

She glared coldly at Wen Zehai.

"I'm asking you a question. Answer me!"

Wen Zehai scrambled for words and said, "Such coincidences do happen. After all, Suyin and I are family—we share the same bloodline. Besides, the midwife already said this is our child. What more do you need to doubt? Jinxin, what nonsense are you spouting?"

Wen Qianqian wished she could kill that man.

She said indignantly through her thoughts: "Mother! Look at me! I have a heart-shaped birthmark on my waist, exactly like yours!"

Qu Jinxin's eyes widened. She stepped forward quickly and, before Han Suyin could react, threw open the blanket covering Wen Qianqian.

Wen Qianqian wasn't wearing any clothes. Once the blanket was lifted, Qu Jinxin indeed saw the heart-shaped birthmark on the child's waist.

She let out a cold laugh and looked at Wen Zehai.

"You said the birthmark on that child's hand was a coincidence. Then what about the birthmark on this child? You've seen the birthmark on my waist too, haven't you?"

"I… this…"

Qu Jinxin grew frantic. She hugged Wen Qianqian tightly and shouted with a heart-wrenching cry: "Qu Jinxin, what are you doing?! Why are you trying to take my child?! Even if it kills me, I won't let you take the child I carried for ten months!"

"You're lying! This is clearly my child!"

Qu Jinxin reached out to snatch the child away.

But Han Suyin clung tightly to Wen Qianqian and refused to let go.

Qu Jinxin wanted to pull harder, but she saw the red marks her forceful grip had left on Wen Qianqian's skin.

Afraid of hurting the child, she instinctively let go.

Taking advantage of the moment, Wen Zehai stepped forward, shoved Wen Miaoxue into the midwife's arms, and wrapped his arms around Qu Jinxin, restraining her hands.

"Qu Jinxin! That's enough! What madness has gotten into you? Why on earth would you insist on taking Suyin's child instead of your own?"

"Have you lost your mind?"

"What mother would abandon her own child for someone else's? Can you snap out of it!"

Wen Zehai's roar stunned Qu Jinxin into silence.

In all the years they'd known each other, Wen Zehai had never shouted at her like this.

She looked at the furious Wen Zehai, then at Han Suyin clutching the child with a terrified expression, and couldn't help but wonder—had she truly lost her mind?

Seeing that Qu Jinxin had calmed down slightly, Wen Zehai turned and said, "Midwife, take the child back inside. I'm bringing Jinxin home first!"

"Yes, sir."

Wen Zehai firmly gripped Qu Jinxin's shoulder and led her outside.

Qu Jinxin could no longer tell whether she was the one going mad, and like a puppet on strings, she let Wen Zehai guide her out.

Wen Qianqian was furious.

This Wen Zehai was worse than a beast!

She refused to stay here—she absolutely could not stay!

What could she do? Her inner voice wasn't working, and she couldn't bite her finger to summon lightning to strike them dead. What other options did she have?

Just as Qu Jinxin was about to be led through the doorway, Wen Qianqian suddenly snapped her eyes open.

Got it!

She looked at the midwife following them out and rapidly recited the incantation in her mind.

"Zhenyanzhou, activate!"

Zhenyanzhou only required the incantation—no Lingxue from her was needed.

The next instant, the midwife suddenly stopped in her tracks.

"Wait! I have something to say!"
