“Your Highness, Princess Chang, we’ve arrived at the Duke Dingguo’s Residence.”
As Xin Long was deep in thought, a shrill voice interrupted her. The swaying sedan chair came to a gentle stop. The curtain was lifted, revealing a plump eunuch standing outside. The moment he noticed the fake Imperial Seal in her hand, he hurriedly lowered his voice.
“Your Highness, please hide that Imperial Seal at once. Before tomorrow, absolutely no one must see it.”
Xin Long glanced at him, tucked the seal into her sleeve, and replied lazily, “I know.”
After she stepped out of the sedan chair, Rui’an said in his piercing voice,
“Your Highness, this servant won’t accompany you inside. Once everything succeeds tomorrow, I’ll be able to serve at your side every day.”
Rui’an was the emperor’s trusted confidant and had been personally assigned to handle this matter.
Watching Xin Long’s slender figure disappear into the Duke Dingguo’s Residence, a calculating gleam flashed through his narrowed eyes.
The emperor had promised him that once the Duke Dingguo’s household was confiscated and the Xiao family exiled, Xin Long would be bestowed upon him for his pleasure.
He had lusted after the delicate, breathtaking princess for a long time. The mere thought of the noble princess—born of imperial blood—crying and begging beneath him made him wish tomorrow would arrive immediately.
After entering the residence, Xin Long saw the eldest sister-in-law, Chu Xiangyue, in the courtyard, wielding a long spear while drilling her own children along with her nephews and nieces.
Chu Xiangyue and Xiao Jinghe’s elder brother, Xiao Jichu, had been a devoted couple. She herself had been a formidable general, only retiring from the front lines after becoming pregnant with twins. Eight years ago, Xiao Jichu died on the battlefield. Since then, Chu Xiangyue had laid down her armor, taken up scholarly pursuits, and shouldered the responsibilities of the eldest daughter-in-law, managing the Xiao household while teaching the children martial arts whenever she had spare time.
Seeing Xin Long return, Chu Xiangyue lowered her spear and nodded.
“You’re back, Sister-in-law. Have you had dinner?”
“I have.”
Following the original owner’s memories, Xin Long returned to her own courtyard.
Her relationship with the Xiao family had always been distant, so no one found her indifferent attitude unusual.
After entering her chambers, she found her personal maid, Qiuyue, preparing some refreshments. Xin Long sent her away before dropping heavily onto the bed.
She felt utterly cheated by the Underworld’s management.
Closing her eyes, she silently thought, Space.
When she opened them again, she was standing in the bedroom of her original detached villa.
Warm lights illuminated the room. Half a bag of potato chips she had left unfinished the previous night still sat on the bedside table. She casually picked it up and crunched on a few chips before walking into her study and turning on the computer.
She logged into Taobao and experimentally ordered a two-yuan hair tie, confirming the shipping date with the seller. Then she switched stores, bought two catties of apples, and confirmed their shipping date as well.
Both sellers replied almost instantly.
Only then did Xin Long finally relax.
It seemed the Underworld officials hadn’t lied to her about this. As long as she entered her space, she really could still communicate with the modern world.
Next, she logged into her livestream account.
A full day had passed, and several fans were asking why she hadn’t streamed the previous night.
Now that she was stranded in ancient times—and the groceries she’d bought before hadn’t come with her—she could only post a leave notice in her fan group.
“Everyone, something unexpected happened. I’ll be back to streaming in a week.”
After shutting down the computer, Xin Long thought for a moment before taking the elevator down to the basement.
The brightly lit basement housed an electrified iron cage.
Inside…
Was a tiny child with short silver hair and exquisitely delicate features.
The moment he saw her, the little boy tossed aside the phone he’d been using to scroll short videos and lunged at the bars, shouting angrily,
“You rotten woman! Let me out already!”
“I’m gonna bite you to death!”
“Did you hear me? Let me out!”
“Just wait until I get out! I’ll make you regret this!”
Standing before the cage, Xin Long looked at the little fellow whose hair was standing straight from repeated electric shocks. She crunched another potato chip.
“For such a little kid, your mouth sure is foul. Didn’t anyone teach you any manners?”
The child nearly exploded with rage.
His pink eyes turned blood-red as black killing intent seeped from his body.
“Listen, little monster. Something came up recently, so I won’t have time to come down here every day. Be good, okay?”
“What happened to you?”
The child froze for a moment before looking her up and down with disdain.
“Xin Long, what are you even wearing? Did you go act in one of those cheap web dramas? With your terrible acting, who’d even watch you? I’m reporting you to the production crew for child abuse!”
“At your age, stop pretending to be young.”
Xin Long rolled her eyes, tossed a bag of potato chips into the cage, and watched him catch it, sit on the floor, and happily tear it open.
Only then did she head back upstairs.
The Underworld officials had told her she could freely return to her home to livestream.
She hadn’t expected that even the Zombie King she’d imprisoned in her basement would be brought along as well.
Ten years ago, the zombie apocalypse had engulfed the world.
As an orphan, she had survived alone, awakening both a spatial ability and a Devouring ability.
Using Devour, she absorbed every zombie she encountered into her space.
When the very last zombie on Earth had been swallowed into her space, time itself reversed, sending her back ten years into the past.
Inside her space, however, all those zombies continued slaughtering one another until they fused together.
The little brat downstairs was the final survivor—the Zombie King.
He was a being made purely of energy, with no physical body. He couldn’t be killed, only imprisoned inside an electrified cage.
To prevent another zombie apocalypse, Xin Long simply settled down at home. Relying on the practical cooking skills she’d honed during the apocalypse, she gradually built a reputation as a popular food livestreamer.
Who would have thought that after casually saving someone’s life, she—who had survived the apocalypse—would instead be killed by a car?
Stepping outside the villa, she found nothing but endless whiteness.
The skyscrapers and city around her had vanished, replaced by a vast void.
In other words, her villa had merged completely with her space. She could no longer physically travel back to her original world.
Walking farther, she discovered a small patch of farmland and an ancient well.
This had to be the Spirit Spring Space the Underworld had gifted her.
The farmland was tiny, barely five square meters.
After thinking for a moment, Xin Long casually plucked a foxtail weed from the yard, scattered its seeds across the field, and watered them with water from the ancient well.
Almost instantly, the seeds sprouted before her eyes.
Watching the miraculous growth, Xin Long nodded.
The Underworld officials might have tricked her in some ways, but at least they hadn’t skimped on the transmigration gift package. The Spirit Spring water and spirit field could dramatically accelerate plant growth.
After finishing her experiment, Xin Long entered the bathroom.
The mirror reflected a breathtakingly beautiful young woman with sparkling eyes and delicate features, dressed in an elegant pale-green ancient robe.
The only difference was that this face looked much younger than her original one.
After all, the original owner was only eighteen years old.
Looking at the face that was otherwise identical to her own, Xin Long wasn’t surprised.
The little Zombie King downstairs had recognized her immediately and had merely assumed she was filming a historical drama.
Just then, Qiuyue’s voice came from outside the space.
“Your Highness! Your Highness! The Young Master has returned!”
So…
Her bargain husband was finally home?
