“Why?” Xu Chi’s heart was pounding.

“Because he’ll come back for revenge on brother. Brother just caught him.”

Before Xu Chi could say anything, You Chumu tilted his head and, with those big gray-blue eyes full of innocent naivety, said,

“How stupid. He should have killed those two people. Then they wouldn’t have cried out, brother wouldn’t have caught him, and he wouldn’t have been taken away by the police.”

“…”

Xu Chi was instantly horrified, his whole body bristling with a cold chill. He felt like running away on the spot.

His hands and feet went weak, and he even started trembling.

Only after forcing himself to be extremely restrained did he manage to keep only a slight tremor in his hands.

“What are you saying? If you kill someone, you’ll go to jail.”

After listening, You Chumu thought for a moment and then showed a very relaxed smile.

“Then I’ll just kill whoever locks me in jail too.”

Xu Chi was scared speechless.

In the country where he lived, saying something like that would get you arrested on the spot!

Completely lacking any moral compass!

You Chumu was absolutely a sociopath!

For a moment, he stammered, “You, you don’t understand…”

As he spoke, he couldn’t even bring himself to finish the sentence. Understand what? What did You Chumu understand? You Chumu only understood killing people.

He didn’t even know the difference between an officer and an ordinary human being.

Xu Chi looked away, not daring and not wanting to look at You Chumu. He had never been this close to a madman, face to face.

“What’s wrong, brother?” You Chumu asked in confusion.

Xu Chi took a deep breath. “Stay home and wait for me. I’ll be back soon.”

With that, without even looking at You Chumu, he pulled open the door and left.

His heart was racing.

He kept going downstairs, and only after he had gone down three floors did he look up. The gloomy stairwell was empty; You Chumu hadn’t appeared there.

He still couldn’t relax, so he quickened his pace and left the neighborhood.

The cold air hit him full in the face, rushing into his nose and mouth, and only then did he feel his breathing smooth out again, as if he had come back to life.

Being with You Chumu was too oppressive, as though he might suffocate the next second.

He walked along the street with a cap on and his head lowered, keeping an extremely low profile.

Actually, ever since he had gone out that morning, he had noticed it. Whenever someone passed by, he could feel a faint but intense gaze on him that made him very uncomfortable.

At first he thought it was just his imagination, but as soon as he looked up, he would meet the other person’s eyes, smiling… as if looking at some kind of prey.

You Chumu was right. The outside was very dangerous. It wasn’t just the one grabbing cotton candy… there were many others.

Of course, no matter how dangerous it was, it still couldn’t compare to You Chumu.

Every so often, Xu Chi would turn to look behind him. He was terrified that You Chumu might be following him.

Fortunately, by the time he reached the management office, there was still no one behind him.

It was still the same male officer at the reception desk. When he saw Xu Chi, he froze for a moment.

“What, you’re back again?”

Xu Chi leaned close to the counter, lowering his head. His voice was even softer than before, though still polite and courteous, his lips parting slightly.

“I forgot to ask earlier. When will the superpowered individual come back? That way I can be prepared. The kid also really wants to find his parents as soon as possible.”

Xu Chi was too fair-skinned, with a tall figure and gentle features, unlike most people in this city.

If anyone else had come to push him like that, the male officer definitely wouldn’t have been pleased. But since Xu Chi had come all this way again, the officer didn’t find it annoying at all. Instead, the corners of his mouth even lifted into a smile.

“I’m not sure. He was still here yesterday, but if he has a mission, he might be away for a week or two.”

“…”

Xu Chi was a little speechless. “Then is that kid just supposed to keep living with me? What if the superpowered individual doesn’t come back for a month?”

The male officer answered very naturally, “Then he’ll stay for a month.”

“…”

Xu Chi’s fists tightened inside his sleeves. He was getting angry. What kind of nonsense was this? They were just handing a child over to a stranger!

He lowered his eyes slightly and forced himself to calm down, telling himself that this was not the city he had lived in before.

This city was exactly this chaotic and without order.

It couldn’t be compared with the place he had come from.

“Aren’t you afraid I might do something to him? I don’t know him at all. I just found him.”

The male officer seemed to only then think of this problem. He nodded. “That’s true. You don’t know him at all. We shouldn’t have handed him over to you. In that case, bring him here. Let him stay at the management office tonight. There are a lot of people out from the management office recently, so no one can take him back. Let him sleep on a chair for now. If the superpowered individual doesn’t come back for a month, then he’ll have to sleep on a chair for a month.”

The anger surged up at once. Xu Chi suddenly exploded, his fist clenching as he slammed it hard on the counter, sending papers flying everywhere.

The loud noise startled the male officer.

His eyes went blank, and his mouth froze.

After losing his temper, Xu Chi calmed down a little and then felt somewhat regretful. He bent down to pick up the papers that had fallen to the floor.

Expressionless, he sorted them out and put them back on the counter.

His eyes were slightly upturned and long. When his face turned cold, it gave off a sharp, intimidating edge that made people feel chilled and afraid to joke with him.

Thinking that he was asking a favor of the man, he restrained his expression and said in a calm voice, “Sorry… I’ll take good care of the kid. Please contact me as soon as the superpowered individual comes back.”

The male officer didn’t say anything. Xu Chi looked up at him again, and the moment the officer met Xu Chi’s gaze, he instantly came back to himself, so startled that he couldn’t even speak. He raised a hand and made an OK gesture.

“…”

Xu Chi had nothing left to say. He turned and left.

On the way back, he deliberately went to the vegetable market again and bought some meat.

Carrying the meat back, he took his key out of his pocket and unlocked the door. The room was far too quiet, not a sound inside.

Subconsciously, he was about to call You Chumu by name, then remembered that he shouldn’t know it and swallowed it back.

He put the meat in the kitchen, then went to the room and balcony to look around, but saw no one.

A chill suddenly ran through him.

He didn’t know where You Chumu had gone, but any behavior that deviated from what he expected made him uneasy.

Then a soft call suddenly startled his ear:

“Brother.”

Xu Chi jumped in fright and abruptly backed away, bracing himself with a hand beside him. He almost fell.

He pressed a hand over his wildly pounding heart. It was You Chumu.

He didn’t know when You Chumu had appeared beside him again.

“You!”

He was practically ready to curse.

You Chumu always appeared like this out of nowhere.

You Chumu looked at him innocently. “Brother, did I scare you?”

“…It’s fine.”

Xu Chi moved two steps away from You Chumu. After taking two seconds to steady himself, he walked into the kitchen and asked casually,

“Where did you go?”

You Chumu followed him into the kitchen and copied his movements, though his hands were empty. Then he answered,

“I went out.”

Xu Chi’s back stiffened at You Chumu’s behavior, but he forced himself to ignore it and get used to it.

He still couldn’t adapt. One more sentence from You Chumu nearly made him throw the vegetables in his hand.
