Ever since the food borrowing incident last time, whenever someone knocked on Dorm 806’s door during the following three days, they never opened it.

As everyone went hungry for longer and longer, people’s mental states were no longer as stable as they had been at the beginning. Nearly half the people who got rejected would start cursing loudly afterward.

Zheng Wan lay against the glass door with binoculars, observing the outside world. Unfortunately, with the darkness and heavy rain, there was not much she could make out.Full novel: After Rebirth: Dorm 806 Survived the Apocalypse by Stockpiling Supplies — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

After looking around enough, she turned back and shared the information with everyone.

“The convenience store below the Jianxing Building across from us just got smashed up by around five or six guys. They practically emptied the whole place.”

Cheng Zhi put down the two eggs in her hands and fell into thought.

“They made a lot of noise breaking into the store. Everyone knows they have food on them now. People must be insanely jealous. There are probably people waiting in the stairwell to rob them. How dare they?”

Leaning against the window, Xiao Feiran stared outside and muttered:

“So are they actually that capable… or did they get cheats too?”

The second half of that sentence carried a terrifying amount of information.

Chen Siyu immediately got goosebumps all over and rubbed her arms.

“Please no. It can’t be that everyone gets cheats, right? If they had them too, they wouldn’t have waited until now to act. Their route would definitely have been similar to ours.”

Chen Siyu’s logic was sound.

The chances of them having cheats were still pretty low. If everyone had cheats, then everyone would just hide in their spaces. The apocalyptic natural disasters would become a complete joke.

Seeing that it was almost mealtime, the group prepared to enter the space to cook and water the crops.

Normally, they would not stay inside the space unless necessary because they still did not know much about it. They were afraid the space might have usage limits. If they exhausted it too early, then when harder days arrived, they would lose their final safety net.

Four people stood up and prepared to enter the space.

Only one person still sat at her desk, stubbornly fighting against Blue Life and Death Love.

Looking at Huang Yiyi’s bird’s nest hair, Cheng Zhi patted her shoulder comfortingly.

“Take a break from studying. Go feed the chickens and refresh your brain a bit.”

“Mhm. I think I really need a different brain.”

Huang Yiyi looked like she would never be happy again.

“…”

Cheng Zhi could not help laughing.

“Girl, you misunderstood. I wasn’t telling you to replace your brain.”

Seeing that Huang Yiyi was not even responding anymore, Cheng Zhi dragged her into the space by force.

The moment they entered, they heard Chen Siyu cry out in surprise.

Following the sound, everyone walked into the little garden.

There stood Chen Siyu, holding a little white rabbit in her left hand and a little yellow rabbit in her right. She weighed them repeatedly in her hands.

“These past few days I kept feeling like these two female rabbits were fatter than the male one. Now that I’m holding them, they really do feel heavier. Do you think they’re pregnant?”

Cheng Zhi stroked the little white rabbit twice.

“Possible. The owner said they were already eight months old when we bought them, which means they’re old enough to breed. Rabbits get pregnant really easily. If you don’t want breeding, males and females are supposed to be kept separately.”

Squatting on the ground, Huang Yiyi still looked expressionless, but at least she was willing to talk now.

As she fed rabbit food to the little male rabbit, she said:

“Little Black, you’re amazing. You’ve added a lot more population to Dorm 806… no wait, rabbit population… hmm, not right either. Added a lot more food supplies?”

Standing nearby, Cheng Zhi covered both rabbits’ ears.

Chen Siyu directly kicked Huang Yiyi.

“What are you saying in front of the children? If you scare them and they stop having baby rabbits, I’ll kill you!”

While they were fooling around, Zheng Wan had already finished cooking.

Two huge plates sat on the table, spicy and sour shredded potatoes and steamed pork ribs with black beans.

The shredded potatoes were spicy, sour, and perfect with rice. The steamed pork ribs were packed with juices, soft and tender enough that the meat slipped off the bone with a light bite.

The five of them ate quickly.

After finishing, Cheng Zhi and Huang Yiyi were assigned dish duty for the day, while the other three headed off to deal with the vegetable field.

Today was the day they would harvest their first batch of greens.

Just thinking about it was exciting.

Rolling up their sleeves and pant legs, Zheng Wan and the others stepped into the field and began harvesting vegetables.

Pulling up a fresh, plump Chinese cabbage, Zheng Wan held it up and admired it, delight written all over her face.

“This is so nice. There aren’t any bugs in the space, not a single bite mark on the cabbage. First time in my life I’ve seen such a perfect cabbage.”

Back when they first planted vegetables, the space had not been this large, and they had not planted much either, so harvesting did not take very long.

Once the harvesting work was done, the three shook the dirt off the vegetables and quickly brought them into the kitchen for processing.

Fresh vegetables had not come easily. They absolutely had to preserve them properly.

Watching Zheng Wan skillfully lay down paper towels, sprinkle water, and package the vegetables, Xiao Feiran silently applauded.

“First time in my life learning all these little food preservation tricks.”

Beside her, Chen Siyu copied everything step by step. Even though she was still clumsy, she followed every step correctly.

“If Wan hadn’t said anything, I would’ve thought washing them and stuffing them straight into the fridge was the best method. Learned something new today.”

After busily working for a while and finishing the vegetables, they came back out of the space.

But the moment they opened the cabinet door, before they had even sat down, someone started pounding violently on their dorm door.

The noise was extremely loud and filled with hostility.

The five immediately grabbed whatever was closest as weapons.

Cheng Zhi and Xiao Feiran picked up a kitchen knife and a broom respectively, then cautiously walked forward and looked through the peephole.

Outside stood Chen Cuixi and five other people who looked familiar but whom they did not know.

The one pounding on the door was Chen Cuixi.

After not seeing her for several days, she looked much more miserable. Her red hair was either greasy or soaked, clumped together in messy strands, and her face had become much paler.

But even so, the force with which she pounded on their door had not lessened at all.

“Open up, classmates! Didn’t you hear us knocking?!”

Behind Chen Cuixi, a fat girl viciously shouted:

“We’re being so polite here. Don’t refuse a toast only to drink a forfeit. If you don’t open up, we’ll smash the door down!”

The moment Cheng Zhi saw that arrogant expression, she got angry.

“You’re polite? Even a cockroach walking by has better manners than you. How long has it been since you washed your face? Your skin’s gotten so thick and you still dare call yourself polite. Aren’t you afraid people will feel sick?”

Beside her, Xiao Feiran was furious too. She gripped the knife handle so hard it looked like she was about to crush it.

The people outside, upon hearing voices from inside, not only failed to get angry, they actually became happy.

One of them kept pressing against the peephole.

“Oh, someone’s there. Great, that’s good. We don’t mean any harm. The typhoon’s been going on for so long and everyone’s starving. Chen Cuixi said your dorm still has food, so we came to buy some. Once the internet comes back, we’ll immediately transfer the money. We all live on the eighth floor. We definitely won’t scam you.”

Every single person outside was holding bottles, clubs, and other weapons.

Who the hell would believe they had come to buy food?

Xiao Feiran spat heavily.

“We already said it before. Not selling. Get lost.”

The moment those words came out, the fat girl’s expression immediately changed.

She grabbed a beer bottle and smashed it against Dorm 806’s door.

Green shards scattered all over the floor.

“We’re all classmates and neighbors. We don’t have to see each other when we look up, but we’ll definitely see each other when we look down. I don’t want to make things ugly. Hurry up and hand over your food, or I’ll kill you!”
