The torrential rain never stopped, and the second floor had already been completely flooded. Quite a few more people had died, and even more had become displaced. Room 806 kept a close watch on the situation outside and continued taking turns standing night watch every evening.
A few days later, while everyone was gathered together eating breakfast, Cheng Zhi, who had been on watch the previous night, shared a piece of information that immediately raised concern.
Around four or five in the morning, a group had pried open the door to Room 835 and even changed the lock overnight. It looked as if they intended to settle down there.
Xiao Feiran instantly stopped drinking her porridge and fired off a rapid series of questions.
“How many people? Men or women? What did their mental state look like? Did they seem hostile? Did they stare at Room 806 with greedy eyes?”
Cheng Zhi thought back for a moment.
“There were four men. It was dark as hell outside. They turned on a small light while changing the lock, but I still couldn’t make out their faces or tell what kind of mental state they were in. Also, I wouldn’t have known if they hadn’t turned on the light, but once they did, I realized they even had a dog with them. That dog… I couldn’t tell what breed it was. It had no fur and was all white. It looked like some kind of giant worm.”
The moment they heard “four men and a dog,” the other four immediately became anxious. They no longer had any appetite for porridge.
Chen Siyu held her head and felt like crying dramatically.
“Four men and a dog. If they don’t have bad intentions, then great. But if they are bad people, this is going to be another tough fight.”
Cheng Zhi thought for a while before voicing her opinion.
“When they arrived last night, they didn’t pay much attention to the surroundings at all. They were focused on opening the lock. I think they’re planning to settle down rather than just cause trouble. For now, they probably won’t come looking for problems with us. Besides, even if we do fight, we can beat them. Siyu bought a chainsaw before, remember? Once that thing starts up, it cuts down a whole crowd. We’d wipe them out in minutes.”
The moment the chainsaw was mentioned, Chen Siyyu’s eyes lit up. She quickly finished the last few mouthfuls of porridge, then hurried into the space to dig it out and charge it.
Maybe it was a woman’s sixth sense, but Cheng Zhi was not very worried.
Her mind was completely occupied by that dog.
Xiao Feiran noticed both Cheng Zhi and Zheng Wan staring blankly into space and could not help asking what they were thinking about.
Zheng Wan took a mouthful of porridge.
“I was thinking about the dog. Even after the disaster started, they still didn’t abandon it. People like that probably aren’t too bad, right?”
Cheng Zhi blankly replied,
“I was thinking about the dog too.”
Xiao Feiran raised an eyebrow.
“Woohoo, so you two ended up thinking the same thing.”
But Cheng Zhi shook her head. Her face showed a strange combination of confusion and disgust.
“I was wondering what kind of breed it is. How can it be that ugly and that bald?”
Xiao Feiran: “…”
Zheng Wan: “…”
Was that really polite?
She kept calling it ugly. The poor dog would be heartbroken if it heard that.
After breakfast, Cheng Zhi and Huang Yiyi stayed behind to watch the door while the other three entered the space to harvest sweet potatoes.
The potatoes they had grown before had turned out extremely well. Whether stir fried or made into potato pancakes, they tasted amazing.
So today they were filled with anticipation, hoping for sweet roasted sweet potatoes.
Zheng Wan was even happier. Sweet potatoes had a longer shelf life than potatoes and could also be turned into dried sweet potatoes, making them last even longer.
Huang Yiyi was reading Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases, while Cheng Zhi followed a video and practiced Sanda.
Not long later, the three returned.
Zheng Wan was practically skipping with excitement, looking extremely happy.
“Today we harvested sweet potatoes and cherry tomatoes. Yesterday we harvested cucumbers. Room 806 has hit a bumper harvest! Tonight we’re making something good and treating everyone!”
The other four instantly lit up at the mention of delicious food.
Room 806 became so excited that they completely ignored the sounds outside.
Only when someone knocked on the door did all five suddenly react.
Cheng Zhi rushed forward in one stride and saw two men standing outside who looked like homeless drifters.
Both looked over 180 centimeters tall. The one in front even had muscles. With unshaven stubble and an appearance that suggested he had not bathed in days, the only thing visible through his rough appearance was that both were probably fairly handsome normally.
Following the principle of if the enemy doesn’t move, I don’t move, Room 806 simply grabbed their weapons and quietly waited.
After a long while, the two men outside gently knocked again.
The man in front leaned closer and softly spoke toward the peephole.
“We don’t mean any harm. We just want to trade for something.”
Trade?
Cheng Zhi raised an eyebrow.
The other four were also instantly drawn in by those words.
Xiao Feiran held her chin and thought for a moment, no longer bothering to lower her voice.
“Is this some new scam technique? Trying to get something for nothing?”
The guy outside had clearly heard her.
The one standing behind immediately stepped forward anxiously.
“Classmate, we’re not scamming you. We really do have things. We’ll trade good stuff with you!”
Cheng Zhi lightly tapped the door and let out a disdainful laugh.
“Good stuff? The entire second floor is underwater. What good things could you possibly still have?”
The boy in the back anxiously scratched his head and looked like he wanted to say something.
Then the guy in front directly said,
“We looted the convenience store on the first floor before.”
Now Room 806 believed they really did have supplies.
At the same time though, they also became more worried.
These guys had managed to rob an entire store and safely carry everything away. Their combat ability definitely could not be low.
If they suddenly decided to attack, then with the weaklings of Room 806, there would only be one outcome.
Death.
Room 806 fell silent.
Chen Siyu walked over to the door and voiced everyone’s concerns.
“You’re all tall and strong, and you’ve even robbed a store before. It’s hard for us to believe you won’t attack us.”
That kind of concern was perfectly reasonable.
The man in front thought for a moment before proposing an idea.
“How about this? We have a dog, just a medium sized dog. While exchanging supplies, neither side opens the door. We’ll let the dog deliver everything.”
At the mention of the dog, everyone turned to Cheng Zhi.
Thinking back to that ugly little dog, Cheng Zhi silently mouthed:
I think it works.
The other four thought for a while and nodded in agreement.
Cheng Zhi grabbed a piece of paper and a pen and slid them out through the gap under the door.
“Write down what you want and let us take a look.”
The two boys crouched down and wrote furiously.
Half a minute later, they slid the note back.
Four sets of clean clothes, four razors, four towels, iodine solution.
The last two items they had.
But the first two completely stunned them.
Where in their dorm would they find clothes big enough for men?
And razors? They definitely did not have those.
Frowning, Cheng Zhi wrote a reply on the paper.
Clothes, yes, but no guarantees they’ll fit.
No razors. Only hair removal razors.
(Don’t worry, they’re brand new and unopened.)
For towels and iodine solution, she simply drew check marks beside them.
Then underneath, she wrote what they wanted in exchange.
Five self heating hotpots.
Two bottles of purified water, 1.5 liter bottles.
The two men looked at it once and readily agreed.
Then they turned around and headed back to Room 835 to pack up the supplies.
