Combining the characteristics of both spear and blade weapons, capable of being used with one or both hands, and with a long yet not bulky body that allowed the user to attack from a safe distance—

That was the Miao Dao.

It was also Chi You’s favorite cold weapon.Full novel: After Rebirth, the Doomsday Villain Joined the Protagonist’s Team — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The three zombies fell, granting 6 Experience and dropping a card. He didn’t check what it was. He touched the floating light cluster that emerged from the zombie, drew out the card, stored it in his Card Inventory, and immediately rushed toward the remaining zombies.

Under the frost of Ice Jade, there was no need to dodge the filthy blood splattering from zombie wounds. It saved him a great deal of effort.

In no time at all, the zombies on the street were cleared out.

Including the previous ones, a total of two cards had dropped.

This time, Chi You’s luck was good. One card contained a box of biscuits, and the other a box of mineral water.

Though still food and water, at least it wasn’t just a bottle or half a bottle anymore.

He moved to another street, where only three scattered zombies remained.

After easily dealing with them, the next street had even fewer—only two zombies. The one after that was slightly better, with three.

Chi You couldn’t help but sigh.

If this were his previous life, seeing only a few zombies on a street would have been something worth celebrating.

It meant safety.

But now, he needed to level up. Just a few zombies like this were far from enough.

Of course, there were places with large numbers of zombies—such as shopping malls—but at his current level, going there would simply be courting death.

Using the tip of his blade, Chi You flipped over a zombie’s wrist and glanced at the watch it was wearing. The hour hand was about to reach 5:00 PM.

Although the zombies on the later streets were fewer, the first street had quite a lot. Killing just a few more would be enough to level up.

After that, on the way to find a place to stay, he could just kill a few along the way. There was no need to deliberately search for more.

In the apocalypse, a place to stay needed to meet several conditions.

The first was the floor level.

It shouldn’t be too high, nor too low.

Too high, and if something unexpected happened, it would be inconvenient to escape.

Too low, and zombies wandering on the streets could easily swarm up at night.

Generally speaking, the 4th or 5th floor was ideal.

However, with the Featherfall Ring, Chi You could raise that to over ten floors. With a 90% reduction in fall damage and his upgraded Constitution, jumping down from the 10th floor would be effortless. This chapter was copied from g.com without permission.

It was also best to avoid buildings close to the street.

Secondly, it should be far from places like shopping malls, where zombies gathered in large numbers.

Beyond that, there were no strict requirements. After all, it was only for a temporary night’s stay, not a permanent shelter. As long as there was a certain level of safety, it was sufficient.

Chi You scanned the surroundings and set his sights on a newly built residential complex not far away. It had only recently been completed, and the occupancy rate was low—making it an excellent temporary shelter.

He approached the main gate of the complex. A few zombies blocked the way, but he dealt with them easily. By the time he reached the entrance, the level-up notification finally sounded.

All his attributes increased by another 5 points. As always, he placed his Free Attribute Points into Agility without hesitation.

His Agility reached a terrifying 44 points.

Chi You swung Ice Jade at full speed. The motion was so fast that the blade itself became invisible, leaving only a trailing arc of icy crystals that formed something like a protective barrier.

“Roar!”

Several zombies inside the complex were drawn by the sharp whistling of the blade. With a single strike, Chi You shattered the iron gate and instantly turned into a blur.

Before the zombies could even react, Chi You had already appeared behind them and begun sheathing his blade.

Only then did their heads fall to the ground in unison.

Chi You looked into the complex. Directly facing the gate was a small square, with some exercise equipment meant for the elderly.

There weren’t many zombies inside. The occupancy rate had been low to begin with, and since the apocalypse began at noon, most people had been out at work.

As he cut down zombies, Chi You observed the nearby buildings, selecting the most suitable place to stay.

“Hey, little brother, over here.”

Just as Chi You finished choosing his residence and was about to head over, a soft, delicate voice called out from above.

He instinctively looked up toward the sound. On the balcony of the 4th floor stood a woman wearing only a thin camisole. Her face was attractive, and her figure was excellent.

When she saw Chi You looking over, she immediately forced a seductive smile. One hand rested on her waist as she tugged her already revealing clothing even lower, exposing more of her pale skin.

“Can you save me? I’ll do anything you want.”

As she said this, she couldn’t help but curse inwardly.

Her luck had been terrible.

When the Apocalypse Game descended, she had been sleeping deeply.

Although the game’s announcement would appear even in dreams, waking people instantly, when she woke up and saw that the notification had disappeared, she naturally assumed it had been a nightmare and drifted back to sleep.

By the time she was awakened again by the pounding of zombies on her door, and saw through the peephole her neighbor being torn apart alive, she finally realized that the earlier notification hadn’t been a dream.

But by then, it was already too late.

She had never stocked much food at home. Because she was dieting, she didn’t even have snacks.

There was still tap water, but the earlier notification had stated that the water could also contain the Zombie Virus.

Without food and without a reliable water source, she might have lasted a few days on the daily supply drops—but the zombies outside had begun violently slamming against her reinforced door. She didn’t know how much longer it could hold.

As for escaping by twisting curtains and bedsheets into a rope and climbing down from the window—

She had considered it.

But after seeing someone from the opposite building attempt the same thing, only to lose strength halfway, fall, and be devoured by a swarm of zombies—

She abandoned that idea completely.

Just when she didn’t know what to do, she saw a man enter the complex from outside. Holding an ice-blue long blade, he slaughtered zombies as easily as chopping vegetables. If he was willing to help, he could definitely save her.

But why would he?

Acting out of righteousness?

Don’t be ridiculous. She didn’t deny such people existed, but they were rare.

All she had was this body—one that had once brought her plenty of money.

So she put on the most revealing clothes she had and called out to Chi You as he was about to leave.

She knew it was a gamble.

Even if Chi You chose to save her, if he turned out to be some kind of pervert, her fate would be even worse.

But she had no choice.

If she gambled, she might live.

If she watched him leave, death was the only outcome waiting for her.

So—

“Little brother, I’m really scared. Could you please come up and save me?”

The woman tried her best to accentuate her figure, her eyes filled with pleading as she begged Chi You.
