Jiang Li didn’t believe a single word the female doctor said.

If she hadn’t known medicine herself and already checked her own pulse at home, she might actually have fallen for the doctor’s lies.

Sitting up, she glanced at the ultrasound monitor. There was a tiny spot about the size of a soybean. Based on how far along her pregnancy was, the size of the gestational sac looked completely normal.Full novel: After Rebirth, the Pregnant Heiress Is Cherished by the Commander — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

She looked at the doctor and asked,

“May I ask how old you think the fetus is? When exactly did it stop developing? What evidence do you have that it’s a dead fetus?”

“I…” The doctor seemed caught off guard. She clearly hadn’t expected a pregnant woman to ask so many questions.

“I already told you it’s a dead fetus. I’m recommending a uterine evacuation procedure for your own good. Otherwise, the dead embryonic tissue will remain in your uterus and cause inflammation. In severe cases, it could even lead to uterine cancer. You might end up needing your uterus removed, and it could even threaten your life.”

“But my baby is perfectly fine, and you’re claiming it’s dead. How can a hospital employ a doctor like you? You don’t even understand what you’re looking at. What happens when you misdiagnose someone or get a patient killed?”

The doctor’s face immediately flushed red.

“Are you the doctor, or am I the doctor? Why won’t you listen to me?”

“Either way, I’m not having an abortion.”

Jiang Li got off the examination bed and wiped the ultrasound gel from her stomach.

At first, she intended to simply leave.

But after thinking about it, she realized that if a doctor like this was working in the hospital, healthy fetuses could be diagnosed as dead and mothers pressured into abortions. If that actually happened, the consequences would be devastating.

She felt she had a responsibility to report this to the hospital administration.

This kind of quack doctor shouldn’t be allowed to harm people.

As she headed for the door, the doctor stepped in front of her.

“What are you doing? Your baby is dead. You need to terminate the pregnancy immediately.”

Such a beautiful woman.

Such a healthy fetus.

To the doctor, it was a rare and precious prize.

She had to keep Jiang Li here.

Jiang Li brushed her aside.

“Whether I have an abortion or not is none of your business. I came here for a checkup. The baby is mine. Since when do you get to decide whether I keep it?”

“I… I’m only advising you for the sake of your health.”

The more Jiang Li listened, the stranger it seemed.

Even if this doctor was incompetent and couldn’t read an ultrasound properly, what kind of doctor tried to force a patient into having an abortion?

The woman claimed it was for her own good, but Jiang Li had clearly seen malice and vicious intent in her eyes.

How could someone like this become a doctor?

She wasn’t a healer.

She was a monster harming people.

Today, because Jiang Li understood medicine, she had refused to abort her child.

But what about women who didn’t know any better?

Wouldn’t they be tricked into ending their pregnancies without ever realizing the truth?

Who knew how many unborn children had already lost their lives because of this doctor?

Although Jiang Li couldn’t understand the woman’s motives, she was determined to inform the hospital director immediately and have her removed.

Unable to stop her, the doctor could only watch as Jiang Li left.

Privately, she felt a sense of regret.

If she couldn’t get rid of the baby here, perhaps there were other ways.

The woman was simply too beautiful.

Her skin was fair and delicate, almost as though water could be squeezed from it.

She was young, healthy, and possessed exceptional genes.

Someone like her came along only once in many years.

Letting her go was a waste.

After asking around, Jiang Li found the hospital director’s office.

The director was usually very busy, managing hospital affairs and treating patients with serious illnesses. Jiang Li waited outside for quite some time before finally being allowed inside.

As soon as she entered, she said,

“Director, I’d like to file a complaint. I want to report one of the obstetrics doctors. I’m only one month pregnant, and my baby is perfectly healthy, yet she claimed it was a dead fetus and told me to abort it. I don’t know how many women she’s already convinced to terminate healthy pregnancies. If a doctor like that remains in the hospital, she’s going to hurt a lot of people.”

After listening, the director looked surprised for a moment before returning to his usual calm demeanor.

He simply didn’t believe that a patient could be more knowledgeable than one of his doctors.

“Have a seat,” he said.

“I practice both Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine. Let me examine you myself.”

Once he confirmed that the fetus had died, he assumed Jiang Li would finally accept reality.

Many patients struggled to accept the loss of a child and convinced themselves otherwise. He had seen it countless times.

Jiang Li extended her wrist and allowed him to take her pulse.

But after checking it, he discovered a strong and steady slippery pulse.

Not only was Jiang Li healthy, but her unborn child was healthy as well.

Jiang Li asked,

“Well? Is my baby healthy, or is it a dead fetus?”

“It isn’t a dead fetus. Both you and your baby are perfectly healthy.”

“Then you believe what I told you now, don’t you?”

The director nodded.

“Let’s go to the obstetrics department and take a look.”

Together, they returned to the obstetrics department and found the same female doctor.

At that moment, she was examining another pregnant woman.

The woman’s abdomen was still flat as she lay on the examination bed undergoing an ultrasound.

After a brief examination, the doctor announced,

“The fetus stopped developing a week ago. To prevent infection of the uterus and possible cancerous complications caused by a dead fetus, you need an abortion immediately.”

The woman was terrified.

Heartbroken, she immediately decided to undergo the procedure.

Unable even to sit up, she lay on the bed sobbing.

Just then, Jiang Li and the director entered the examination room.

The director personally reviewed the ultrasound images and quickly determined that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the fetus.

When the woman noticed Jiang Li and the director, she immediately stopped crying and hurriedly pulled down her shirt. If the director hadn’t been wearing a white lab coat, she probably would have screamed.

The female doctor noticed the change in her expression and turned around.

The moment she saw them, she trembled and jumped to her feet.

“D-Director…”

The director’s face darkened.

Pointing at the frozen ultrasound image on the monitor, he said,

“You claim this woman’s fetus stopped developing a week ago. What evidence do you have?”

He then personally checked the woman’s pulse.

“Both mother and child are healthy. Yet you lied to her and told her the fetus had died, urging her to have an abortion. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?”

The doctor instantly panicked.

She looked at the director, then at Jiang Li.

Her eyes seemed ready to spit fire.

So this woman hadn’t left after all.

She had gone straight to the director to complain.

Now that everything had been exposed, what was she supposed to do?

“D-Director, I didn’t make a mistake.”

“You didn’t make a mistake?” the director snapped.

“You misdiagnosed this young lady and tried to persuade her to terminate her pregnancy. She didn’t believe you and came to me. Then, only moments later, you misdiagnosed another patient. If I had arrived even a little later, another innocent life might have been lost because of you.”

The second woman learned that her baby was alive and immediately brightened with relief.

“M-My baby is really okay?”

“Yes,” the director replied. “There’s nothing wrong with your child. She made a mistake.”

“Ahhh!”

The woman suddenly screamed.

Jumping off the examination bed, she rushed at the doctor and started hitting her.

“You quack! You horrible woman! I almost aborted my baby because of your misdiagnosis!”

Tears streamed down her face.

“My poor child… You almost got my baby killed!”
