“Are you a Rom… if you are, give me an order… anything…” Sui Yuye’s hand, gripping his collar, trembled as he cursed inwardly.
He roughly understood what was happening.
As a Switch, his body contained both Rom and Cub genes. For a Cub, the commands issued by a Rom brought pleasure and enjoyment.
Obedience was innate, yet he had been resisting this instinct all along.
Damn it, it was because high-level Roms had been giving him orders these past few days! It had stirred the Cub trait within him, making it restless.
Hearing no response from Mr. Chu, Sui Yuye thought he might not be a Rom or simply didn’t want to help. He pushed away the hand around his waist and scrambled for the keys on the floor.
His cells felt as if they were crawling everywhere, an unbearable itch constantly teasing his nerves. Sui Yuye was so tormented he was nearly going mad, frantically searching for the keys on the ground.
He needed to release Shao Jinghe quickly to get help—if he refused, he’d beat him up!
Just as he picked up the keys, a domineering force suddenly yanked him back.
The keys slipped from his hand.
A coat draped over his shoulders, carrying body warmth and a faint, elegant scent of perfume. Mr. Chu’s arm offered support: “Breathe.”
Sui Yuye’s breathing immediately steadied, no longer frantic.
“Good.”
Seeing Sui Yuye’s lowered head, Mr. Chu inexplicably wanted to see the expression on his face. Lost in thought, his arm unconsciously tightened around Sui Yuye’s waist, holding him firmly in front of himself.
He lowered his gaze, a slight smile curling his lips as he whispered:
“Look.”
Sui Yuye obediently looked up.
Mr. Chu’s eyes widened slightly, stunned.
His lips were bitten pale, his eyes glistening with moisture, one eye slightly more narrowed than the other. It wasn’t the usual cliché of pitiable fragility—the stubbornness and defiance in his gaze—
It was more like an invitation to break and ruin him.
It made one want to crush his pride, conquer everything about him, control his entirety, until he completely collapsed and never recovered.
What expression would he wear then?
Mr. Chu’s lips parted slightly, his Adam’s apple bobbing.
“…I didn’t tell you to use dazzling light on me.” Sui Yuye’s eyebrows furrowed into waves as he stared at the other’s vertical pupils.
His condition had stabilized, but damn it, he couldn’t control the shift in his perspective now.
Dazzling light was used to assist commands, serving both as intimidation and reinforcement.
“Actually, I can’t control it well either.” Mr. Chu smiled ruefully.
Sui Yuye’s vision cleared, and he could now see Mr. Chu’s face unobstructed by glasses. The arc of his eyes was exquisite, the lines stunning, his eyelashes straight—four words: indescribable.
As the dazzling light faded, Sui Yuye pulled away from his embrace, coughing to change the subject: “Isn’t Venus’s management too lax? It’s supposed to be the TOP1 club, after all. If something happens to Shao Jinghe, how am I supposed to explain it to his family?”
“Hmm? You’re not his?”
“I’m his bodyguard.”
Mr. Chu pondered for a few seconds before asking, “Do you remember what I said earlier? About Quan Wangcheng.”
Sui Yuye was dumbfounded.
So, this person was sent by Quan Wangcheng to test him?
Wasn’t that ridiculous? What had he done to provoke him?
Mr. Chu: “On the deck earlier, did you do anything particularly noticeable?”
Sui Yuye: “…”
Mr. Chu picked up the key from the ground and handed it to him. “Are you a Cub?”
“Not exactly,” Sui Yuye replied as he opened the door.
“Then perhaps it’s because your Rom trait has been satisfied, but your Cub trait hasn’t been fulfilled yet.”
This was the first thing Shao Jinghe heard upon entering. His expression darkened as he asked, “What did you do to him?”
Mr. Chu shrugged. “I was just—”
“He was helping me adjust my condition. It has nothing to do with you,” Sui Yuye interjected.
As Mr. Chu brushed past him, he lowered his voice and said, “Shao Jinghe, you might want to consider changing bodyguards. He isn’t suitable for you. After all, he’d rather seek help from a stranger like me than turn to you.”
Shao Jinghe’s veins bulged with anger.
Seeing the man about to leave, Sui Yuye called out to him, “Thank you for your help.”
Maybe he was overthinking it. Perhaps the man was just naturally kind?
“My name is Chu Mingsi,” the man turned back and smiled at him. “Until next time, Mr. Bodyguard.”
The cruise ship docked, and once Shao Jinghe got into the car, Sui Yuye’s duty to protect him ended—meaning he was off work.
Before the Bentley’s door could close, Sui Yuye turned and walked away. He ignored Shao Jinghe calling his name, and just then, someone called him, giving him a perfect excuse to disregard the man.
“Calling me so late? Aren’t you sleeping?” Sui Yuye asked.
Jiao Shu replied, “I was just woken up too. Someone was knocking at the door downstairs. I thought it was kidnappers again, but when I checked the surveillance, it was just someone delivering something!”
“Delivering something?”
“Yeah, remember how the office was completely trashed yesterday? Just now, several groups of people came and delivered a bunch of new equipment, desks, and chairs. The quality is amazing.”
Sui Yuye slowed his pace, scanning the area for Mian Guanfei.
“By the way, Shu-jie, could you log into the computer and cancel all the Shao family’s commissions for the next few days?” Sui Yuye said calmly. “From now on, we won’t accept any jobs from them.”
“Huh? But the Shao family is a major client!”
“Cancel them.”
Jiao Shu sensed the seriousness in his tone. “What reason should I give?”
Sui Yuye glanced toward Mian Guanfei and casually made up an excuse. “Just say I broke my leg and need to rest.”
“Ugh! Don’t say such unlucky things! Haven’t you heard that words can come true?” Jiao Shu said sternly. “What if you really break your leg someday?”
A chill ran down Sui Yuye’s spine.
Why did those words sound so terrifying coming from Jiao Shu? It felt as if it might actually happen.
Jiao Shu sighed. “Well, you’re the boss, so it’s your call. But what happened between you and that Shao guy? Did you two have a falling out?”
“Sui Yuye, want to grab some late-night snacks?”
Fu Zhong’s voice suddenly sounded from behind him, startling Sui Yuye. The two brothers had been eavesdropping without him noticing.
Fu E asked, “Did Shao Jinghe make you angry?”
Sui Yuye hesitated. “Well…”
Fu Zhong chimed in, “Forget about him. Don’t you like seafood? There’s a great street food stall nearby. Want to go?”
Sui Yuye smiled apologetically. “Maybe next time. I still have something to take care of.”
Outside, the second young master of the Crown Family, Mian Er-ge, was waiting. As soon as he saw someone emerge, he angrily blocked their path. “Mian Guanfei! Do you have to be so ruthless?”
“Isn’t being the chairman enough for you? Now you want to swallow up the old man’s entire fortune too? Have you lost your damn mind?!”
Mian Guanfei didn’t speak, just quietly watched him. The dock lights fell on his profile, illuminating those calm, unruffled eyes.
Mian Erge felt somewhat unnerved by his gaze. “Why must family come to this? Back when we were kids, everyone was young—it was just roughhousing and playing around. You can’t hold a grudge forever, can you? Some things belong to whoever—”
“No.”
Mian Guanfei turned and walked away. “If you want it, go tell the old man yourself.”
“You!” Mian Erge stepped forward, his raised fist intercepted mid-air.
He frowned at the man who had suddenly appeared. “Who are you?”
“I’m his bodyguard.”
Sui Yuye released his grip and stood in front of Mian Guanfei, his smile flawless. “It’s getting late. I need to take Mr. Mian back now. If you have anything else, please contact us another time.”
Mian Erge’s gaze lingered on Sui Yuye’s face for several seconds. He narrowed his eyes and reached out to hook Sui Yuye’s chin. “With a face like yours, you’re really asking for—”
Slap!
A black-gloved hand reached out from beside Sui Yuye and swatted Mian Erge’s hand away.
“Get in the car.” Mian Guanfei turned his head to speak to Sui Yuye, wrapping an arm around his shoulder to guide him back.
Inside the car.
Sui Yuye cleared his throat and asked, “I want to ask you something—who was the person who called your sister yesterday?”
