In the dead of night, the wind sighed, and the sound of rain began to patter.
The Huoyan Bird and Blazing Flame Bird, now without a nest, pitifully huddled together beneath the outer eaves of the straw hut. They were both fire-attributed spirit beasts and disliked rainwater.
Meanwhile, the “culprit” responsible for this lay expressionlessly on the bed, deep in thought.
One arm was tightly restraining her across the chest, and one of her legs was pinned beneath another leg as well.
She was like a tree stump, while Yuan Wu beside her was a sloth. Bai Yuehan was injured and still unable to move, so she could only be held tightly by Yuan Wu. She could not understand how Yuan Wu could sleep so soundly.
And this girl was far too restless in her sleep!
One moment her foot moved, the next she scratched her head or picked at her bottom. She had absolutely no decorum!
Unable to move on the bed, Bai Yuehan felt warm, moist breath against her neck. It tickled unbearably.
Actually, Yuan Wu did not want the two of them squeezed onto one bed either, but the Farm only had one bed. She could not possibly make Bai Yuehan sleep on the floor, could she? She was only fifteen and still a child who needed to grow.
Of course, Yuan Wu knew that she was restless in her sleep, so she had even placed a wooden board between them.
But halfway through the night, the board began to bother her. She threw it away and then clung to Bai Yuehan like a caterpillar.
Bai Yuehan had an Ice Spirit Root, so her body naturally carried a chill. Pressing against her felt very comfortable in hot weather.
Bai Yuehan was unable to sleep that night, so she simply cultivated through the night. Near dawn, she could finally move one hand. She took out the Heavenly Spirit Fruit and began refining it.
A faint blue light enveloped Bai Yuehan, also wrapping tightly around Yuan Wu, who was pressed against her.
The pain made Bai Yuehan knit her brows tightly. Her entire body felt as though it were being reassembled, yet she did not make a sound.
The purity of her Ice Spirit Root grew increasingly refined, and even Bai Yuehan’s hair gave off a chill. Something was wrong with her Heavenly Spirit Fruit!
That was Bai Yuehan’s first reaction. She had never expected to be so lucky—not to encounter an ordinary Heavenly Spirit Fruit, but a deity fruit that appeared only once in a thousand years!
Its marrow-cleansing and sinew-severing effect was ten times that of a Heavenly Spirit Fruit!
She gritted her teeth and persevered as cold sweat poured down her face. Unable to hold back, she let out a muffled groan before passing out from the pain.
And so, the night passed.
Early in the morning, Yuan Wu was awakened by a foul smell.
Still utterly bewildered, she opened her eyes and saw Bai Yuehan covered from head to toe in black sludge.
She pushed Bai Yuehan away at once, then scrambled and rolled outside to breathe fresh air. “Darn it, how did sleeping for one night get someone this dirty? Could I have sleepwalked and thrown her into the fields?”
Yuan Wu scratched her head and pondered. She had indeed done some unimaginable things while sleepwalking before.
For example, she had plucked all the feathers from one Huoyan Bird, causing that bird’s plumage to remain incomplete even now. Every day, it gazed resentfully at Yuan Wu.
The sound of the door closing woke Bai Yuehan. She frowned and tried to open her eyes, but could not, because they had also been covered with mud.
She was on the verge of breaking down. She remembered that a deity fruit expelled impurities from the body. She must be filthy beyond measure now, and, as someone with a slight obsession with cleanliness, she felt as if she had a mouthful of shit in her mouth.
She struggled to sit up, but before she could even rise—
She looked up and met a pair of purple slit pupils. It was a snake!
It was just that this snake looked both ugly and adorably silly.
“You’re awake. Why do you smell so awful? My bed can’t even be used anymore.”
The snake was taken away, and in an instant, Bai Yuehan found herself facing a delicate little face—one filled with displeasure.
Bai Yuehan’s face flushed slightly. She felt somewhat embarrassed, after all, since she had soiled someone else’s bed.
“I’m sorry, I...”
“Forget it. Da Hei, spit on her.” Yuan Wu sighed and ordered Da Hei to spray water at Bai Yuehan, washing her clean. She also rinsed the Bamboo Bed and planned to move it outside to dry later, hoping it would be usable by nightfall.
Looking at the drenched Bai Yuehan and Bamboo Bed, Yuan Wu felt fortunate that she had not used a blanket the previous night. The weather was so hot every day that no blanket was needed 🔵 mainly because the blankets sold by the System were too expensive, and she could not afford one. 🟦
A blanket was simply a piece of cloth stuffed with filling. The System had cloth, while the filling could be the birds’ feathers and the rabbit fur from Da Bai’s family.
Ahem, Yuan Wu had collected quite a lot of it, and one Huoyan Bird had made a particularly major contribution.
“Achoo.” Bai Yuehan truly lived up to her status as the female protagonist; she was beautiful. Even looking so bedraggled after being drenched with water, she was still undeniably a beauty fresh from the bath, with an extra hint of fragility compared with her usual self.
Yuan Wu tossed her a little rabbit and told her to wipe her face.
Bai Yuehan held the adorable, palm-sized rabbit and stared blankly.
Who used a rabbit to wipe their face?
But leaving that aside, the rabbit’s fur really was comfortable and incredibly soft, with a medicinal fragrance as well.
Of course it had a medicinal fragrance. The rabbit family lived near the fields, and that area was now planted with numerous Spirit Plants, all of which Da Bai had brought back. The little rabbits loved playing among the Spirit Plants whenever they had nothing to do, so the fragrance had thoroughly permeated their fur.
Sometimes Yuan Wu even suspected that Da Bai was not a Blueclear Rabbit, but a treasure-hunting rabbit.
A little rabbit could only wipe her face, but Bai Yuehan was wet all over. Yuan Wu took out a towel and a set of clothes and handed them to Bai Yuehan. Then she grabbed the little rabbit by the ears and carried it away.
As she left, Bai Yuehan still heard her scolding the rabbit: “If you steal the vegetables from the fields again, you’ll be used as a face towel from now on. Got it?”
Bai Yuehan let out a soft laugh. The Seventeenth of the Yuan Family was truly interesting.
After changing into a set of light blue clothes, Bai Yuehan looked cool and aloof, as though she might drift away to become an immortal.
Her hair was slightly damp, with water still dripping from the strands.
The moment she pushed open the door, she saw a bizarre scene.
Yuan Wu, a group of Huoyan Birds, one Blazing Flame Bird, a snake, and four rabbits were all squatting in a circle on the ground. When Bai Yuehan came out, they turned their heads in perfect unison and stared straight at her.
It made Bai Yuehan think she had put her clothes on backward, so she lowered her head and checked several times.
However, Yuan Wu had been whispering with the Huoyan Birds and Blazing Flame Bird. Da Hei, Da Bai, and the rest of the rabbit family had merely come to watch the excitement.
Yuan Wu: “Do you see that woman? She’s the one who smashed your bird nest. If you want to find someone, go find her.”
The birds: “Chirp chirp chirp, cluck cluck cluck.”
Yuan Wu: “Tsk, every debt has its debtor. I wasn’t the one who wrecked it, so finding me won’t help. Besides, I have things to do. Where would I find the time to build you a nest?”
The birds: “Chirp chirp chirp, cluck cluck cluck.”
Yuan Wu: “Hey, if that’s what you want to think, there’s nothing I can do. I haven’t even complained that you only eat without working. It’s been so long. You get three meals a day and have grown fat and sturdy, yet you’ve laid only five eggs. I’m starting to suspect there’s something wrong with your fertility.”
The birds: “..........” Their gazes shifted toward Bai Yuehan, who had just come out.
“Cluck cluck cluck~ Chirp chirp chirp~”
The flock rushed toward her and surrounded her, dancing wildly. Birds flew while Yuan Wu hopped about.
Huh? Yuan Wu?
Bai Yuehan’s mouth twitched as she watched Yuan Wu bouncing around beside her with the birds. She began to wonder whether there was something wrong with the Seventeenth of the Yuan Family’s head.
“Seventeenth of the Yuan Family, you...”
“Just call me Yuan Wu. Since you can move now, start repairing the bird nest. These fellows can’t wait any longer.” Yuan Wu stopped acting crazy and curved her brows into a smile, making her look much more normal.
“Oh, right. Pay up. For the medicine you consumed and the damaged bird nest, you owe me 3... 4... five hundred spirit stones.” Yuan Wu demanded an exorbitant price, holding out her hand to signal Bai Yuehan to pay.
Bai Yuehan felt somewhat embarrassed and took out three hundred spirit stones, handing them to Yuan Wu. “I... I only have this much on me.”
“Tsk, that’s not enough spirit stones. Then stay and work for me to pay off the debt!” Yuan Wu accepted the spirit stones without the slightest hesitation, planted her hands on her hips, and looked smug and overbearing.
Bai Yuehan pressed her lips together.
“All right.”
