Before long, the sound of water drifted from the bathroom. Lu Shian, who had been buried in his documents, looked up toward the source of the noise. The bathroom door was transparent; even with the rising steam, Meng Yu’s silhouette was clearly visible through the glass.
Lu Shian’s throat tightened, and he unconsciously quickened his pace as he looked back down at his work.
By the time Meng Yu finished drying his hair and stepped out, Lu Shian had just completed his tasks. Seeing Lu Shian close his laptop, Meng Yu asked, “All finished?”
“Mm.” Lu Shian rubbed the bridge of his nose, looking weary. He walked toward the bed, climbed in, and jerked his chin toward the guest bed. “You sleep there.”
Lu Shian was referring to the standard companion bed provided in the ward.
Meng Yu did not move toward it as instructed. Instead, he walked over to Lu Shian and sat on the edge of the bed. “I told you, I stayed so that you could sleep more comfortably.”
Lu Shian furrowed his brows. “What do you mean?”
“It means I am sharing the bed with you.”
Before Lu Shian could process a rejection, Meng Yu cut straight to the point. “Lie on your right side. Do not tilt too far, and do not put all your weight on your right. Lean against me; let me support you.”
His serious tone guided Lu Shian, and within moments, Lu Shian had been coaxed under the covers, lying exactly as instructed. Meng Yu lay down as well, letting Lu Shian lean most of his weight against his chest.
“Sleep peacefully. Do not worry about your head or shoulder,” Meng Yu’s voice was steady and captivating, carrying an irresistible magic.
It was only when the temperature between their pressed bodies began to rise that Lu Shian realized he was being held. In front of Meng Yu, his reactions truly slowed down; he did not even know how he had been lured into this situation.
Just as Lu Shian prepared to sit up, Meng Yu tightened his grip around his waist. “President Lu, go to sleep. You are starting to get dark circles.”
That one sentence effectively halted Lu Shian’s movements. Once again, the Chairman had been outmaneuvered.
He closed his eyes and cleared his thoughts to invite sleep. He had barely slept the night before, and he had to admit that this position was indeed comfortable. With a doctor by his side, he felt less anxious about his injuries. The man behind him provided a profound sense of security, allowing his body and mind to fully relax.
However, a sudden thought crossed his mind, and he shifted his head slightly further away from Meng Yu.
Meng Yu, eyes closed, tightened his embrace. “What is it?”
“It is just,” Lu Shian said with rare bashfulness, “I have not washed my hair in days. There is a smell.”
Meng Yu chuckled softly, thinking that the President’s concern for his image was truly significant. “My sense of smell is not great; I cannot smell anything.” He scooted closer, holding Lu Shian even tighter.
Lu Shian’s sleep quality had deteriorated over the last two years, but held by Meng Yu, he enjoyed a rare night of deep rest, waking up only once.
The next morning, Lu Shian was woken by Meng Yu. A magnetic, slightly raspy voice echoed in his ear. Lu Shian opened his eyes and realized Meng Yu’s handsome face was inches away.
His brain stalled for a second, but the sleepiness vanished instantly when he realized he was sprawled over Meng Yu in a very strange position. Meng Yu was supporting his left ribs to keep the pressure off his left shoulder, while the right side of his body was pressed entirely against the other man. His head was pillowed on Meng Yu’s chest.
Despite the odd posture, Lu Shian felt no discomfort. His shoulders were not sore, and his back did not ache; the sufficient sleep had left him refreshed. The position was actually quite comfortable, and he lay there for a moment with his eyes closed until his hand brushed against something he should not have touched. He hurriedly pushed himself up into a sitting position.
Meng Yu said nothing. He smiled as he got out of bed and checked Lu Shian’s shoulder. After confirming everything was fine and neatly folding the blankets, he said, “I will borrow the bathroom first. I am on the early shift and need to do rounds.”
Lu Shian did not refuse. “Mm. Qi Lei put new toiletries in the cabinet.”
Meng Yu finished quickly and checked his watch; it was nearly 8:00 AM. “I am heading out. Remember to eat breakfast and lunch, and stay off the computer.” After his instructions, he prepared to leave.
As he opened the door, he ran into Qi Lei and Wang Luoyang, the deputy director of Neurosurgery. Seeing Meng Yu emerge from Lu Shian’s ward, Wang Luoyang was visibly stunned. “Doctor Meng, you are here this early?”
“Good morning, Director Wang,” Meng Yu greeted him warmly, as usual.
Qi Lei nodded to Meng Yu and went inside with breakfast. Wang Luoyang looked Meng Yu up and down. “Is Doctor Meng doing rounds?”
“I just came to check on President Lu.” Meng Yu’s answer was ambiguous. He was not wearing his white coat and carried no charts, so he clearly was not doing official rounds. He shifted the topic. “Why is Director Wang here so early today?”
Wang Luoyang sighed. “The department head told me yesterday to pay extra attention to President Lu. If I had not been afraid of disturbing his rest, I would have come at 6:00 AM.”
Meng Yu smiled. “Me too. You carry on; I will head out.”
Meng Yu arrived at his office right on time. Tang Linyan, who had arrived early, kept his eyes fixed on him. For the rest of the day, his gaze was full of mischief. He noticed Meng Yu was wearing the same clothes as yesterday and, after pondering it, reached a conclusion.
Master did not go home last night; he must have gone to a hotel with a girl!
The thought made him excited. It seemed his Master was about to leave the single life behind. A wedding invitation could be just around the corner!
