Suicide

In her previous life, it was her lingering attachment to that illusory love that led her to retreat step by step.

First, it was Buku’s death, then everything around her, followed by her grandmother, and finally, it became her own turn.Full novel: After She Was Burned to Death, Her Whole Family Regretted It — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

It was her own inaction that allowed Yu Guiwan to grow increasingly arrogant!

Yu Shuwan suppressed the hatred in her eyes one by one, reaching out to pick up Buku.

Buku, as if understanding human nature, allowed herself to be held, even purring softly.

Yu Shuwan tapped its nose and whispered, “Buku, I’ve met a bad woman.

I’ve heard cats have nine lives. Last time, you lost one because of her. Shall I take you to get revenge?”

Buku’s eyes widened, its pink tongue licking its own nose.

Yu Shuwan stroked its fur a couple of times. “Don’t worry, this time I’ll definitely protect you.”

Seeing that the timing was about right, Yu Shuwan had someone prepare peppermint tea and began walking back.

To ensure she would run into Yu Guiwan, Yu Shuwan deliberately took another path. After all, she had just returned, so getting lost was perfectly reasonable. Who could find fault with her?

From a distance, Yu Shuwan spotted Yu Guiwan happily chatting with several young ladies.

After silently assessing the surroundings, Yu Shuwan put on a smile and quickly walked toward Yu Guiwan. “Sister, look at what interesting thing I’ve found!”

Yu Guiwan turned around in confusion, only to widen her eyes in terror moments later.

Without a care for her noble demeanor, she screamed and retreated repeatedly. “Go away, go away!”

Yu Shuwan looked somewhat aggrieved and took a step forward. “Sister, do you hate me this much?”

Yu Guiwan had no time for anything else at that moment. The sight of Buku made every hair on her body stand on end.

Everyone has their own fears, and hers was clearly cats.

Now that Yu Shuwan had brought the cat right before her, Yu Guiwan couldn’t hold back and burst into tears. “Get lost!”

Her arm swung with such force that Buku was also frightened, its fur bristling as it leaped out of Yu Shuwan’s arms.

The other young ladies nearby hadn’t expected Yu Guiwan to react so strongly and were all startled.

Buku’s claws were sharp, and the more Yu Guiwan resisted, the more it seemed determined to fight to the death.

Yu Shuwan stood nearby, pacing anxiously, clearly appearing frightened.

Noticing that the guests had already taken notice, she immediately called out, “Buku, go away!”

The plump little cat glanced back at her, its body nimbly leaping onto a nearby rockery. After a few leaps, it vanished without a trace before the guests arrived.

“Sister, are you alright!”

Yu Shuwan sobbed softly, while Yu Guiwan trembled uncontrollably, her eyes somewhat vacant. She hadn’t even noticed that her gauze dress had been torn in several places.

Seeing Yu Shuwan there as well, Su Jintang’s heart tightened.

Turning around, she indeed saw Yu Guiwan’s exposed state.

She nearly fainted on the spot, frantically shielding Yu Guiwan and desperately trying to shoo the crowd away. “Nothing’s wrong here, please leave!”

Yu Shuwan suppressed a laugh.

Now that there were more people, things were getting lively.

No matter how hard Su Jintang tried to cover it up, Yu Guiwan’s disheveled state had already been seen by many.

As a considerate and caring younger sister, how could Yu Shuwan bear to watch everyone stare at her like that?

She looked at the crowd with earnest eyes, “Please leave quickly! My sister is thin-skinned, she—she won’t be able to bear it!”

Yu Guiwan wanted to scream right now.

She had never imagined Yu Shuwan could be so ruthless. If what had just happened had nothing to do with Yu Shuwan, she would write her own name backward!

Fortunately, all the guests were women. Even though the situation was awkward, they still valued their relationship with the Yu family and their own dignity.

But in such a short time, two incidents had occurred, making it even more uncomfortable for the guests to stay. One by one, they stood up to take their leave.

Seeing the once lively garden now as desolate as the depths of winter, Su Jintang’s expression was beyond just unpleasant.

Yu Shuwan glanced at the tree branches swaying in the wind and spoke with concern, “Madam, perhaps you should take my sister to change her clothes first. The wind is picking up—be careful not to catch a chill.”

Su Jintang trembled as she stood up, strode forward, and raised her hand to strike, “You wretch! How dare you scheme against your sister like this!”

Yu Shuwan sidestepped slightly. Su Jintang, having put too much force into the swing, nearly stumbled and fell.

Mama Chen hurriedly supported Su Jintang, her eyes full of reproach as she looked at Yu Shuwan, “Second Young Miss, how could you dodge like that?”

“If someone is about to hit me, why wouldn’t I dodge?” Yu Shuwan found the question utterly baffling. “How about you stand still and let me slap you for no reason?”

“Second Young Miss, aren’t you afraid your tongue will trip over such words?!”

Madam Wen held Yu Guiwan tightly in her arms, glaring at Yu Shuwan with gritted teeth, “Dare you deny that it was you who brought that beast here to frighten the Eldest Young Miss?!”

“I just returned—how would I know she’s afraid of cats?” Yu Shuwan wore a puzzled expression. “Wasn’t it you who said I should get closer to my sister? Why blame me now?”

Yu Guiwan’s teeth chattered uncontrollably.

So ruthless!

If she were truly a woman of ancient times, having lost so much face in front of everyone, she would have no choice but to die!

Yu Shuwan…

Was no delicate flower, nor was she anything like the character she had known from the story!

Yu Shuwan’s face showed a hint of grievance. “Is Mother going to take her anger out on me again because of this?

Mother keeps saying I’m the one who made Sister lose face—do you have any proof?”

Su Jintang clutched her chest, her eyes reddening, “Proof? Yu Shuwan, you are truly wicked to the core!”

How could she have given birth to such a daughter?!

Even without solid proof, the cat was brought by Yu Shuwan, and it was that beast she brought that caused Guiwan to end up like this!

“If I had known you were like this, I never should have agreed to bring you back!”

Su Jintang turned away, ignoring Yu Shuwan, and tried to lead Yu Guiwan back inside.

Her voice trembled, her eyes filled with heartache, “Guiwan, Mother will take you back.”

But at this moment, Yu Guiwan seemed utterly lost and disheartened. Before Su Jintang’s hand could even touch her, she took a large step backward, tears falling like broken strings of pearls.

Paired with her sorrowful expression and pitiful demeanor, everyone present felt their hearts ache.

Yu Guiwan’s voice was heart-wrenching, filled with utter despair, “To be seen by so many people… I truly cannot go on living!

Even if my sister dislikes me, she shouldn’t have treated me like this!”

Mother, forgive your daughter for being unfilial. If there is a next life, I wish to be your own flesh and blood!

With that, she mustered all her strength to shove Madam Wen aside and leaped into the lake before everyone’s eyes!
