4 – Moving into a New Home
The apartment Chi Wanwan rented still had two months left before the lease expired, but since she was moving out early, the contract deposit would naturally not be refunded.
So all she needed to do was notify the apartment management office after moving out and return the keys.
Chi Wanwan was someone who cared greatly about quality of life. Although the apartment was rented, life itself was not.
No matter the circumstances, she would always furnish the place properly so it would be more comfortable to live in.
This move involved a lot of things to transport.
Chi Wanwan went to a general store and bought some storage boxes and storage bags.
She wrapped the pots, pans, and skincare products—these fragile items—in newspaper and carefully placed them into the storage boxes.
Clothes, bedding, and other miscellaneous items were packed into the storage bags.
It took Chi Wanwan most of the day to finish packing everything.
The boxes and bags together amounted to over twenty packages. Chi Wanwan called a moving company, and five movers arrived.
“Gentlemen, please handle the potted plants on the balcony with care. Thank you.”
After saying this, Chi Wanwan handed the movers the drinks and cigarettes she had prepared in advance.
Seeing how generous Chi Wanwan was, the movers grinned. “Don’t worry, these plants will be guaranteed to arrive without a single leaf damaged.”
“Then I’ll leave it to you.”
The movers stacked the packages one by one onto a handcart, then dragged the handcart to the parking lot and loaded everything onto a large truck.
After two or three trips, everything was moved.
After clearing out the apartment, Chi Wanwan returned the keys to the management office.
She took a taxi to Yingcui Huating.
Chi Wanwan carried a large tote bag on her back—all her valuables were packed inside it.
The taxi drove slowly forward and stopped outside the residential complex gate twenty minutes later.
The moving company’s large truck had arrived before her and was already parked by the roadside.
The truck was too tall to enter the underground parking garage, so it could only park here while the workers carried everything in.
After paying the fare and getting out, Chi Wanwan walked to the truck and told the movers, “Gentlemen, my home is in Building C, Room 801. Please unload and carry everything in.”
“Got it~”
While the movers were unloading, Chi Wanwan, carrying her bag, slowly walked through the complex gate.
Although this would be her home from now on, she had never been here before.
She needed to take a look first to decide where the things being moved should go.
Yingcui Huating was considered a high-end residential complex in the capital, with a high green coverage rate.
The buildings were spaced far apart, so there was no sense of crampedness.
Passing through the complex’s garden, Chi Wanwan found Building C according to the unit numbers.
She took the elevator to the eighth floor. Stepping out, Room 801 was on the left.
Chi Wanwan took the keys from the side pocket of her bag and opened the security door. Inside there was another entry door.
She used the key again to open the entry door and pushed it open.
Entering, she found herself at the entryway, which had a large shoe cabinet and a shoe-changing bench beside it.
Chi Wanwan stepped inside and looked around at her future home.
The entire apartment had a Western minimalist style, with furniture almost entirely in light colors. The living room had a floor-to-ceiling sliding door connecting to a large balcony.
“Really nice. I can put a rocking chair here in the future.”
Chi Wanwan nodded to herself, turned, and walked through the living room to check the rooms.
There were three rooms in total, all fully furnished.
One of them was the master bedroom, about thirty-some square meters. There were some scattered things in the master bedroom, all of them Shen Yu’s belongings.
Logically, a married couple should live in the same room.
But before she and Shen Yu got married, there was no emotional foundation between them—they didn’t even know each other.
Chi Wanwan still planned to sleep in separate rooms, so they could each have their own private space.
Next to the master bedroom was the second bedroom, slightly smaller than the master bedroom, but by rough estimate it was still over twenty square meters. The second bedroom’s window had a large bay window.
This delighted Chi Wanwan greatly, and she decided to stay in this second bedroom.
In the future, she could buy some things online and set up the bay window as a tea seat.
The last room was even smaller, probably meant to be a children’s room or a study.
Ding-dong~ Ding-dong~~
A few crisp doorbell rings sounded. Chi Wanwan quickly went out to open the door.
It was the movers bringing the things up.
“Miss Chi, which room should we put the things in?”
“Just put them in the living room for now.”
Anyway, Shen Yu had gone abroad. He said himself that he’d be gone for about half a month.
So she’d just put the things in the living room first, organize them slowly, and take them into her own room.
Half an hour later, everything had been brought up.
“Thanks for your hard work. Here’s the moving fee.” Chi Wanwan took out one thousand five hundred from her bag and handed it over.
The mover took the money, counted it, then nodded and said, “Then we’ll be on our way.”
Chi Wanwan double-locked the front door, turned around to look at the pile of packages, and let out a soft sigh. “Ah, back to work.”
She started with the clothes, hanging them up and putting them in the wardrobe together with her bags.
Then she put all the pots, pans, bowls, and utensils into the kitchen. The kitchen was very spacious—unlike the apartment she used to live in, where you could bump into a wall just turning around in the kitchen.
She busied herself until three in the afternoon before Chi Wanwan remembered about eating.
There were no ingredients and no time to cook, the sun outside was blazing, and she didn’t want to go out to eat either, so she just ordered takeout.
Curled up on the sofa waiting for the takeout, Chi Wanwan took out her phone and sent Shen Yu a WeChat message.
Chi Wanwan: Shen Yu, I’ve moved into the new home today.
After sending the message, Chi Wanwan then remembered that Shen Yu was currently abroad, and there was a time difference.
At this hour, it should still be early morning on his side.
After finishing the takeout, she continued organizing things.
By evening, she had finally put away most of the things, and the living room had returned to its previous tidiness.
Slumped on the sofa, Chi Wanwan felt like her back was about to give out.
The phone on the coffee table buzzed. Chi Wanwan picked it up and glanced at it.
Shen Yu: Okay.
Chi Wanwan twitched the corner of her mouth. This guy really was stingy with words—would it kill him to say a few more?
Just then, a call came in. It was from her best friend Xu Xinyi.
“Hello? Xinyi.”
Because of the exhaustion from moving, Chi Wanwan’s voice sounded listless.
“Wanwan, I’m back in Jing City. Let’s go out for dinner later. We haven’t seen each other in a while.”
“Sure, let’s get together.”
“Then I’ll drive to your place and pick you up on the way.”
Chi Wanwan, “…”
“Um, Xinyi. I’ve moved.”
“You moved? For no good reason, why did you move?” Xu Xinyi asked, a bit puzzled.
“I’m living in Yingcui Huating now. I’ll tell you the details when we meet.”
Chi Wanwan could guarantee that if she told Xu Xinyi about this over the phone, her friend would explode on the spot.
“This is an upscale neighborhood…” Xu Xinyi continued, “Alright, we’ll talk when we meet in a bit.”
