The Lu Group headquarters was grand and imposing, with well dressed office workers coming and going through the entrance.
Security was strict, and everyone had to have their employee ID verified before entering.
A human resources specialist had been waiting nearby. When he saw Su Tang arrive, he handed her a brand new employee ID.
“Miss Su, President Lu specifically instructed us to arrange a clerical secretary position for you in the president’s office. Your salary and benefits will be based on the standard package for established employees.”
Su Tang blurted out, “A secretary? The personal kind?”
The specialist hurriedly explained, “You misunderstood. You’ll be managed directly by the executive assistant and will mainly assist with basic paperwork, organize meeting records, and handle routine schedule matters. All your work will be coordinated through the executive assistant.”
He frowned as he looked at Su Tang and secretly muttered to himself, She may be beautiful, but her imagination is even more beautiful!
After hearing his explanation, Su Tang finally relaxed.
Thank goodness.
It was not a personal secretary position.
But when the elevator reached the top floor, Su Tang’s heart sank again.
This was the highest authority level in the entire building, and it was also the place closest to Lu Zheng.
The entire floor contained only the president’s office, the executive assistant’s office, and a few clerical secretary offices.
On the way upstairs, the specialist explained her salary and benefits.
“You’ll be working on this floor from now on. You’ll be part of the outermost clerical staff of the president’s office. The work is relatively easy, and your salary and benefits will be based on the standard secretary level.”
Her base salary was considerably higher than that of other fresh graduates from the same year, and she would receive an annual bonus as well as holiday benefits. It was practically a position tailor made for her.
It was a job that countless people in the city would fight desperately to obtain, yet Lu Zheng had arranged it for her with a simple word from Grandma.
Su Tang pursed her lips.
There was no such thing as a free lunch. With Lu Zheng arranging everything so carefully, perhaps he simply wanted to keep her right under his nose so he could keep an eye on her?
The specialist led her to a woman. “This is Xu Yan. You’ll be taking over her position.”
Su Tang hurriedly extended her hand and introduced herself. “Hello, Sister Xu. My name is Su Tang. Please guide me over the next few days.”
Xu Yan looked at Su Tang several times. The newcomer was beautiful and striking, with a clean and pleasant temperament. Although she was dressed modestly, it was obvious at a glance that her clothes were quite expensive.
A hint of scrutiny appeared in her eyes, but she still warmly shook Su Tang’s hand.
“Miss Su, you’re too polite. May I ask where you worked previously?”
Su Tang was slightly stunned and waved her hand. “Sister Xu, just call me Tangtang. I just graduated from university, so this is my first job.”
A fresh graduate?
That meant Su Tang had absolutely no work experience, yet the administrative department was willing to let her take over her position?
Still, perhaps Su Tang had some special ability?
Or perhaps she had connections?
With that thought, Xu Yan became even more enthusiastic.
“Tangtang, we have a meeting later. I’ll teach you some of the basic work first.”
“Okay.”
The entire morning was relaxed. She organized documents and registered information, and the procedures were simple enough that the work was not tiring at all.
At lunchtime, the office employees went downstairs to eat in small groups.
Xu Yan enthusiastically invited Su Tang to go to the cafeteria with her.
“No, thank you. I brought something to eat,” Su Tang declined politely.
She did not want to go to the cafeteria because she was afraid of running into Lu Zheng.
Unfortunately, the more you feared something, the more likely it was to happen.
More than halfway through the lunch break, a series of orderly greetings came from the hallway.
Every secretary immediately stood up, their expressions respectful.
“President Lu.”
Su Tang’s heart tightened, and she looked up.
Lu Zheng was walking through the depths of the hallway in a perfectly tailored black designer suit. His figure was tall and slender, and a special assistant followed behind him along with a group of senior executives.
His gaze swept across the area indifferently.
Within seconds, Su Tang felt an intensely oppressive gaze settle on her.
She stiffened and immediately lowered her head, pretending to bury herself in organizing documents, wishing she could hide inside her computer screen.
The footsteps that had been moving straight ahead suddenly stopped beside her desk.
Everyone around her unconsciously held their breath.
The man lowered his eyes and looked at the young woman who seemed desperate to become invisible. A faint smile briefly flashed through his eyes before disappearing.
Su Tang was pretending to be as inconspicuous as a quail when a low, indifferent voice suddenly sounded beside her.
“Are you getting used to the work?”
The surroundings instantly fell silent, so quiet that even a pin dropping to the floor could have been heard.
Several curious gazes immediately fell on Su Tang.
Everyone was astonished.
President Lu was famously indifferent and rarely took the initiative to ask about trivial matters concerning his employees. He had never deliberately stopped to chat with a staff member.
Yet this time, he had actually stopped and spoken to Su Tang first.
Su Tang braced herself and slowly raised her head. She stood up and answered with her eyes lowered.
“I’m getting used to it. Thank you for arranging everything, Brother Lu Zheng.”
Lu Zheng’s deep eyes settled on her face, as though he had seen through her deliberate attempt to keep her distance from him. He gave a slight nod.
“If you run into any difficulties, go directly to Special Assistant Sun.”
As he spoke, he pointed toward a man standing behind him.
Having been called out by his boss, Sun Lei hurried forward, extended his hand, and smiled at Su Tang.
“Hello, Miss Su. My name is Sun Lei. If you need anything in the future, feel free to come to me.”
Su Tang shook his hand. “Okay, thank you, Special Assistant Sun.”
After the brief exchange, Lu Zheng did not linger. He turned around with the group behind him and walked toward the president’s office.
Only after the door closed did the tense atmosphere in the office slowly relax.
The female colleague beside Su Tang immediately leaned over curiously.
“Miss Su, you know President Lu? President Lu actually stopped to speak to you just now. We’ve worked here for years, and aside from work related matters, President Lu has never even spoken to us.”
Su Tang tugged at the corner of her lips and brushed it off casually.
“Our families know each other through our elders. You could say he’s like an older brother.”
Another female colleague gave an understanding “Oh,” her tone was meaningful.
“So he’s your brother.”
That afternoon, while Xu Yan verbally explained the work to her, her eyes were full of curiosity.
Finally, she could not hold back and lowered her voice.
“Tangtang, tell me honestly. Are you actually the daughter of some wealthy family? Did you come to the Lu family for a marriage alliance and conveniently decide to experience working life while you’re at it? Or did you actually come here to develop a relationship with our President Lu?”
Su Tang was just about to drink some water when Xu Yan’s wild imagination startled her so badly that her hand trembled, nearly making her choke.
“Cough, cough! Sister Xu, you must have read too many romance novels. I’m not close to President Lu at all, and I’m here to work properly!”
“No way. Countless people in the capital would fight desperately for my position, and without some kind of special connection, you could never have gotten it.” Xu Yan analyzed the situation with an unusually serious expression.
Su Tang was actually speechless herself.
If she had known she would be working as Lu Zheng’s secretary, she would never have agreed to join the Lu Group.
If she really were a wealthy heiress, would it not be better to stay home, lie around counting money until her fingers cramped, and fall asleep every night after touching the abs of a different male model?
“Sister Xu, it’s work hours. Let’s just talk about work.”
Seeing that she was unwilling to say much about her relationship with the Lu family, Xu Yan pursed her lips.
Forget it. She was about to resign anyway and marry her boyfriend soon. No matter how good President Lu was, he had nothing to do with her.
With that thought, she smiled and returned her attention to work.
After work that evening, Su Tang deliberately stayed late. She waited until almost everyone had left the company before packing up to go home, afraid that she would run into Lu Zheng on the way and be forced into another awkward conversation.
When she returned to the villa, the house was quiet.
Aunt Wang told her that Lu Zheng was in an overseas video conference and would not be coming downstairs for the time being.
Su Tang breathed a sigh of relief, quickly finished dinner, and immediately retreated to her room on the second floor.
Lu Zheng came out of his study, but when he did not see Su Tang, he asked Aunt Wang, “Where is she?”
Aunt Wang smiled. “Miss Tangtang went back to her room after dinner. She said there are many things she doesn’t understand at work, so she needs to study and catch up as quickly as possible.
“Sir, did you need to see her about something?”
Lu Zheng looked toward the tightly closed door on the second floor, his thin lips pressing together slightly.
“Nothing.”
