Nian Nian is the best at training dogs, in every sense of the word…
Jing Nian was once again awakened by Little Rabbit.
The round, fuzzy little kiwifruit was bouncing up and down on his blanket as usual, but unlike before, its tiny furry paws were clutching a dog leash.
“Nian Nian! Nian Nian! Wake up! Hurry up and take the dog for a walk!”
After last night’s battle, this seemingly innocent but actually cunning little rabbit had completely tamed the naive little Pomeranian, to the point where it could ride on Tuan Tuan’s head and have Tuan Tuan carry it around the room.
So, as soon as Tuan Tuan woke up, it immediately grabbed the leash and trotted off to find Little Rabbit, fully acknowledging its new boss.
Jing Nian rolled over, pulled the blanket over his head, and groaned in despair, “I’m not going—”
He had only agreed to foster a pet dog—how could he have forgotten? Dogs aren’t like rabbits or cats; they don’t have the luxury of lounging around at home all day. They need to be taken out for walks.
Jing Nian wanted to shirk responsibility, hiding under the blanket and refusing to come out. The laziness from lack of sleep made him even more unwilling to go out in the cold to walk the dog.
Little Rabbit launched another attack, but Jing Nian was determined. If he gave in once, there would be a second time. There was no way he was going to walk Shi Yi’s dog for a whole month, so he might as well nip it in the bud—don’t even think about starting.
“Jing Nian Nian, are you going or not?!”
Little Rabbit was so angry that smoke seemed to rise from its head. It stood on Jing Nian’s arched blanket bundle, paws on its hips. “If you don’t get up, I’ll go by myself!”
After all, rabbits don’t need leashes. If the dog leash was in the rabbit’s paws, it was perfectly reasonable—no problem there.
Jing Nian peeked out with a pair of dazed eyes and blinked. “Oh, remember to close the door for me.”
Little Rabbit gritted its teeth in frustration. “Fine! Keep sleeping then, you lazy bum!”
It grabbed the leash tightly and stomped out on its short, angry little legs. Even when angry, its small body was undeniably cute.
The little Pomeranian, Tuan Tuan, happily trotted after Little Rabbit. “Woof!”
With the two noisy little creatures gone, the room finally quieted down. However, Jing Nian’s good dream had already been ruined, and no matter how hard he tried to close his eyes, he couldn’t find even a hint of sleepiness.
He fished out his phone and glanced at it. In the work group chat, Qiu Huai had tagged all members as usual, but no one responded—it was dead silent.
Besides that, Jiang Jue had sent another message.
Jiang Jue: 【Good morning】
Jing Nian checked the time—it was sent around 5:30 a.m.
He didn’t know what Jiang Jue’s schedule was like, but if it were him, he’d probably still be awake at that hour after staying up all night.
Jing Nian sighed silently, turned off his phone screen, and still didn’t reply.
This was just like walking the dog. If he gave Jiang Jue even a little bit of hope, once it started, it would only get harder and harder to end it later.
Jing Nian was the best at training dogs, in every sense of the word.
He rubbed his eyes, yawned, curled himself into a small ball, and unconsciously mumbled Jiang Jue’s name.
They had only known each other for three days, yet in every way, they seemed as if they had been together for decades.
Oh, right.
After resigning, he wouldn’t be able to receive red envelopes or have any income. Maybe he could appropriately, just a little, take a tiny bit from Jiang Jue’s pocket…?
Lost in his wild thoughts, he faintly heard the front door open, followed by Little Rabbit’s sobbing cries drifting in.
“Wahhh… Nian, Nian Nian… We just went out and got bullied, wahhh…”
The poor little thing shuffled in, wiping his tears with his short front paws, his whole body trembling with sobs. His fur was soaked with tears, yet he still clutched the dog leash tightly in his hand.
He and Tuan Tuan were truly inseparable.
Tuan Tuan trailed closely behind him, tail drooping, looking just as dejected.
Jing Nian’s eyes widened instantly. He threw off the blanket and sprang out of bed. “Who dares bully my rabbit?!”
Whoever had the nerve—did they really think his fists were made of bean paste?!
He knew Little Rabbit’s capabilities. Usually, when they were outside, it was always Little Rabbit who bullied the cats and dogs. Logically, it was unlikely anyone could bully him. But Jing Nian was fiercely protective—only he was allowed to bully his little rabbit!
With that, he quickly changed his clothes and headed out. He scooped up the sobbing Little Rabbit into his arms, then took Tuan Tuan’s leash. With icy steps and a dark expression, he stormed downstairs to settle the score.
He was determined to find out who had the audacity to mess with him, Jing Nian, of all people.
Jing Nian strode out of the building entrance. In his haste, he had grabbed the new clothes Jiang Jue had given him from the sofa. The winter wind howled, but he didn’t feel the cold.
But less than half a minute later, the number of pitiful souls increased from two to three.
Holding the rabbit and the dog, he crouched pitifully inside the building entrance, timidly peeking out with half his head. He was both scared and resentful as he eyed the imposing German Shepherd standing motionless outside.
What a huge wolf dog.
Little Rabbit sniffled in his arms, his voice thick with tears as he urged, “Nian Nian, go beat it up.”
Jing Nian remained silent for a long time before slowly standing up. He had barely taken half a step forward when the German Shepherd, hearing the movement, twitched its ears slightly and immediately turned its gaze toward them.
Jing Nian instantly crouched back down.
He cleared his throat and began analyzing the situation like a military strategist. “If the enemy doesn’t move, I won’t move.”
“But it just moved! Nian Nian, hurry up and teach it a lesson!”
With such a massive wolf dog, it was hard to say who would be teaching whom a lesson.
He had always said wolf dogs were ferocious creatures, nothing like ordinary dogs.
Jing Nian much preferred gentle breeds like Golden Retrievers or small dogs like Tuan Tuan—tiny enough to hold in his hands and pet freely.
The German Shepherd across from him would probably just bite him.
Realizing Jing Nian was useless, Little Rabbit wrinkled his nose in disdain. As he studied the German Shepherd outside, he suddenly felt a sense of familiarity. “This dog… does it look a bit like the one that darted in front of the car last night?”
Last night’s dog hadn’t caused any harm, aside from making Jing Nian get his head patted by Jiang Jue. It wasn’t like Little Rabbit, who had been flattened into a pancake.
With Little Rabbit’s reminder, Jing Nian also thought it looked somewhat similar.
“It must belong to someone in the neighborhood. It probably got loose without a leash,” he said, carefully pulling out his phone to take a photo of the German Shepherd and sending it to the property management group chat.
If they could find the owner, that would be best. They could take it away quickly and spare the three of them from crouching pitifully downstairs.
Half a minute later, a ding signaled a new message.
Jing Nian’s heart leaped with hope, thinking it was the dog’s owner, and he quickly opened the message, only to be greatly disappointed.
Jiang Jue: “A’Nian, are you awake? I bought movie tickets. Want to go together?”
Eating, shopping, watching movies—wasn’t this progress bar moving a bit too fast? Had it already skipped ahead to the dating stage?
Jing Nian lifted his gaze, his eyes slowly sweeping over the German Shepherd guarding outside the door. With a hint of cunning, like a mischievous little cat, he replied:
Jing Nian: “Save me. Downstairs.”
