June Dunn was used to acting high and mighty.
To her, commanding attention and bossing people around was simply her birthright.
June glared at Chloe Austin, as if giving her one last chance to change her tune.
“I’m giving you a chance by not humiliating you right now.
Whether you take it or not is entirely up to you.
So, what do you say?”
Chloe looked at June, a mysterious smile playing on her lips.
“Don’t forget, Chloe, the company evaluates all its employees.
I’m your supervisor, and your performance review depends entirely on me.
If you want to pack up and get out of this company right now, just say the word.
I’d be more than happy to oblige.”
The surrounding interns gasped in shock.
It was as if no one had ever dared to challenge June like this before.
“Is that so, Team Leader?
If my team leader were replaced, wouldn’t you become irrelevant?
“Oh, wait.
If you left the company entirely, maybe everyone here would finally be freed from this misery,” Chloe retorted.
June’s face contorted with rage.
She didn’t know why Chloe had the audacity to say such things, but she was absolutely furious.
Grabbing the cup from Chloe’s desk, June hurled the water right at her face.
Drops of water dripped down Chloe’s cheeks.
“You’re.
Dead.
Meat!” Chloe gritted out, enunciating every single word.
June looked at Chloe with the smug satisfaction of a bully, letting out a series of cold sneers.
Suddenly, the air froze.
The interns watching the drama snapped their mouths shut, not even daring to breathe too loudly.
“Who threw water at me?!
Which bitch did that?!” June shrieked, covering her face and furiously wiping away the dripping water.
Jensen Austin stood there, staring at June with a profound, icy expression.
When June finally wiped her eyes and saw who was standing in front of her, her legs almost gave out.
“P-President Austin…”
“It’s true that you’re a full-time employee, but I don’t recall Austin Corp being able to accommodate such an arrogant one.
As of this moment, you no longer work for Austin Corp.
Also, apologize to Chloe.”
Chloe straightened her back, a resilient gleam in her eyes.
Panic set in for June.
She looked frantically between Chloe and Jensen.
“President Austin, Chloe and I were just joking around!
We were really just playing!
Chloe wouldn’t mind.
Right, Chloe?” June shot frantic looks at Chloe, pleading with her eyes, but Chloe merely let out a cold scoff.
“I’m sorry, Ms.
Full-Time Employee, but I still have to rely on your mercy.
In your department, I have absolutely no right to speak.” Chloe blinked playfully at Jensen.
“Chloe, I admit I was just messing around earlier, and I know I went a little overboard!
We joined the company at the same time, so I thought we were close.
I’m sorry, okay?
Next time, I’ll definitely keep my boundaries in check so you won’t misunderstand.
I’m really sorry!
Chloe, please, explain it to President Austin!” June rambled, tugging at Chloe’s clothes.
Chloe violently shook off June’s hand.
“Everyone here can testify that we were just joking around, right?
You all saw it!
Right?!”
Seeing that Chloe remained entirely unmoved, June pinned her hopes on the other interns.
Whenever these interns sat together, they would usually gossip and complain about June.
If she were kicked out of the department over this incident, everyone would consider it a stroke of extreme good luck.
However, if June managed to stay, and they helped Chloe today, they would undoubtedly become June’s next targets.
No matter how they calculated the risks, it wasn’t worth it.
Not to mention, Jensen was standing right there.
If they were caught lying to his face, their lives would be made a living hell anyway.
“I saw it.
You were clearly bullying her first,” a girl with a very gentle voice spoke up, trembling slightly.
Chloe hadn’t expected anyone to speak up for her, so this girl immediately caught her attention.
“What kind of nonsense are you spouting?!
I usually have high standards for you, but that’s because you have potential!
I’m grooming you for success!
Don’t you understand that?” June was going crazy, her flushed face completely distorted with desperation.
“Do I need to call security to escort you out?” Jensen’s tone brooked no argument.
June collapsed onto the floor, desperately grabbing onto his pant leg.
“President Austin, I was wrong!
I didn’t mean it, I just—”
“Security!” Jensen yanked his leg free from her grasp and stepped over to Chloe’s side.
“Are you okay?”
Chloe was carrying another life in her womb; Jensen didn’t take this lightly at all.
“Jensen, I’m fine.
Don’t worry.” Chloe flashed a sweet smile, and Jensen let out a long sigh of relief.
“Jensen, about that intern…”
“From now on, you are the team leader for these interns.
With June gone, this position is yours.
Austin Corp needs designers who have courage, not cowards who don’t even dare to speak a word of truth,” Jensen announced solemnly, looking at the girl who had just spoken up for Chloe.
The girl hadn’t fully processed what had happened yet.
She looked around, her expression gradually brightening into a look of disbelief and joy.
She had never expected the opportunity to become a full-time employee to arrive so suddenly.
She hadn’t thought much about the consequences earlier; she only remembered her mother’s words: help good people, and do good deeds.
“President Austin, I…” Tears welled up in the girl’s eyes, unable to conceal her overwhelming excitement.
“You didn’t get this team leader position just because of this incident.
I’ve reviewed the files.
Your performance evaluations are among the top of your peers, your resume is more impressive than theirs, and you work meticulously.
You are fully capable of taking on this role.”
Jensen’s words were intentionally spoken loud enough for anyone who might harbor resentful gossip to hear.
Even though Jensen had made it clear, the other interns couldn’t help but sigh in regret, lamenting the golden opportunity they had just let slip through their fingers.
“Chloe Austin’s last name is Austin, too.
And the way she just spoke to President Austin…” one intern whispered.
“Oh my god…
could Chloe be the heiress of the Austin family?
Rumor has it that President Austin and the elder President Austin dote on her endlessly,” another chimed in.
“Now that I look at her, Chloe does look a bit like President Austin.
Actually, she looks especially like the elder President Austin!
Good heavens, June is doomed.
No one in the industry will dare to hire her now.”
The newly appointed team leader absorbed the whispered gossip around her, finally realizing that Chloe was the legendary heiress of the Austin family.
Interns like them rarely had the chance to interact with the company’s senior executives.
Even if they knew the names, they had never seen their faces.
They had heard the name Chloe Austin before, but they never imagined she would mingle with a bunch of interns and sit in the exact same office.
“Let’s go to the hospital.
Take the rest of the day off; it’s not like there’s anything urgent at the company anyway,” Jensen said softly.
“Jensen, I’m fine…
HISS…”
Just a second after declaring she was fine, Chloe felt a sudden, sharp pain in her abdomen.
She clutched her stomach and collapsed under the desk.
“Chloe!”
Jensen instantly scooped Chloe into his arms.
Terrified, the security guard immediately dialed for an ambulance.
The ambulance arrived quickly, and Jensen accompanied it straight to the hospital.
