Xing Luo didn’t look at the front desk again. She turned her gaze to Li Xiang. “Take me upstairs.”
Li Xiang: “Alright, this way please.”
The two walked toward the elevator.
The front desk clerk was left standing there in a daze. Her job was probably as good as gone.
Xing Luo and Li Xiang arrived at the door of Jiang Yichen’s office. Before they could even knock, they heard Ji Yan’s coquettish voice.
“Yichen, come on, eat something. It’s already afternoon, and Sister Luo Luo didn’t even think to bring you lunch.”
“Come on, eat. It won’t taste good once it gets cold.”
“Here, this is your favorite dish. Just take one bite.”
Ji Yan said a lot on her own, but Xing Luo didn’t hear any response from Jiang Yichen.
Li Xiang glanced at Xing Luo, cleared his throat, and knocked on the door. “President Jiang, Miss Xing is here.”
Inside, Jiang Yichen heard that Xing Luo had arrived. He immediately rose from his chair, walked to the door, and opened it himself.
The moment the door opened, Xing Luo broke into a smile. She held up the food she was carrying in front of Jiang Yichen. “Brought you some food. You must be hungry.”
Xing Luo’s smile was sweet, and her voice even sweeter. That smile instantly swept away the gloom in Jiang Yichen’s heart.
Jiang Yichen took the food from Xing Luo’s hands and welcomed her into the office.
Inside the office, Ji Yan stood there, staring at Xing Luo.
Xing Luo only gave Ji Yan a brief glance, not intending to speak with her.
Jiang Yichen sat at his desk, opened the food Xing Luo had brought, and started eating right away.
Ji Yan watched her own food being ignored on the side, feeling bitter inside.
Xing Luo moved closer to stand beside Jiang Yichen, effectively squeezing Ji Yan out of the way.
She stared at Ji Yan’s food and said, “Thanks for that. So attentive, even going out of your way to bring food to someone else’s boyfriend.”
Xing Luo then packed up the food, untouched, and handed it back to Ji Yan.
“Don’t do this again, okay?” Xing Luo said to Ji Yan with a smile. “Better to put your efforts elsewhere.”
Ji Yan took the food from Xing Luo’s hands with a cold glare, then looked at Jiang Yichen. “Yi—”
“Please.” Xing Luo extended her hand, pointing directly toward the door. “Let Li Xiang see you out.”
Ji Yan couldn’t even finish saying his name before Xing Luo cut her off.
She refused to accept this. She didn’t believe Jiang Yichen would let her leave.
During that game of Truth or Dare, he had clearly said he didn’t love Xing Luo. Since he didn’t love Xing Luo, then she still had a chance.
She and Jiang Yichen were well-matched in family status, and their families were close. Only she was worthy of Jiang Yichen.
“Yichen…” Ji Yan stomped her foot and pouted. “I’m not leaving~ I worked so hard to bring you food, and you haven’t taken a single bite.”
Jiang Yichen didn’t look up. He just kept his head down and ate.
Xing Luo leaned against the edge of the desk, looked up, and smiled. “Why stay? To be a third wheel? Want to watch us hug, or kiss?”
Ji Yan’s eyes went wide. “You—”
Xing Luo: “Didn’t expect you to have such a unique hobby. You should probably leave. Wouldn’t want you to be too overwhelmed if something actually happens.”
Jiang Yichen, who was eating, let out a soft chuckle. He looked up at Li Xiang and said in a low voice, “See Ji Yan out.”
Li Xiang had been wanting to leave for a while now. “Yes, Miss Ji, this way please.”
Ji Yan shot a glare at Xing Luo, then looked at Jiang Yichen. Jiang Yichen just kept eating, not even glancing at her.
The food she brought before, he didn’t eat. Today, he still didn’t eat.
She had no choice but to follow Li Xiang out of the office, unwilling and resentful.
After Ji Yan left, Li Xiang closed the door behind him.
The moment the door shut, a pair of large hands wrapped around Xing Luo’s waist. With a firm pull, she tumbled onto Jiang Yichen’s lap.
Xing Luo simply straddled him, sitting on his thighs, and wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Not eating anymore?” Xing Luo asked.
Jiang Yichen lifted her chin and curled his lips. “Jealous again?”
Xing Luo smiled faintly. She wouldn’t exactly call it jealousy—after all, she had stopped loving Jiang Yichen long ago.
She just couldn’t stand the way Ji Yan acted. She was still Jiang Yichen’s girlfriend, and since she was his girlfriend, she wanted to use that status to put Ji Yan in her place.
“What if I am jealous?” Xing Luo tilted her head, like a little cat seeking comfort.
Something seemed to scratch at Jiang Yichen’s heart.
On the phone, she told him not to come find her. Now she was bringing him food on her own initiative, and even getting angry and jealous in front of him.
A slap, then a sweet treat. Xing Luo really had him wrapped around her finger.
Jiang Yichen pinched her cheek. “If you’re jealous, I’ll coax you.”
He reached into the drawer and pulled out a contract, handing it to Xing Luo. “I’ve drafted the contract. Take it to the marketing department. If there are any issues, have them coordinate with me.”
Xing Luo took the contract, somewhat surprised.
She never expected Jiang Yichen to be the one to bend. Over the past year, it was always her who lowered her head, always her who followed behind him like a begging puppy.
What was happening now?
But since she had the contract in hand, she wouldn’t ask about anything else.
“Thanks.” Xing Luo planted a kiss on Jiang Yichen’s lips. “Were you looking at the contract when you didn’t answer the phone earlier?”
“Phone?” Jiang Yichen picked up the phone from the desk and indeed saw two missed calls.
Not only that, he also noticed his phone had been switched to silent mode.
Ji Yan seemed to have touched his phone when she came by earlier.
“My phone accidentally got muted, so I didn’t hear it.” Jiang Yichen didn’t mention Ji Yan.
“Next time, no need to call me. Just come straight up if anything comes up.”
Xing Luo lowered her head and let out a soft chuckle, acting coy. “But your front desk lady wouldn’t let me come up.”
Sitting on Jiang Yichen’s lap, Xing Luo recounted everything that had just happened without leaving out a single detail.
After listening, Jiang Yichen made a call to Li Xiang, his tone icy cold.
“Fire the front desk.”
“Got it.”
Jiang Yichen put down the phone and smiled at Xing Luo. “It’s taken care of.”
Xing Luo nodded with a smile.
With just over twenty days left, she no longer wanted to play the good person.
Why should she sit there and endure the front desk’s sneers and sarcasm?
She had suffered for a whole year—it was time someone else got a taste of it.
“Don’t just smile. How are you going to thank me?” Jiang Yichen looked at Xing Luo and asked.
His eyes lowered, his voice hoarse.
The moment the words left his mouth, Jiang Yichen suddenly felt like a beggar dressed in fine clothes—lacking nothing, yet desperately seeking a sense of validation.
One hand gripped Xing Luo’s waist tightly, the other held the back of her neck. His gaze was filled with desire, and before she could respond, he kissed her fiercely.
The kiss was intense, like a starving beast devouring its prey.
Xing Luo could barely catch her breath.
Only after she let out a shy moan did Jiang Yichen realize he had lost his composure.
He seemed to be desperately trying to prove something. The old him would never have acted like this.
No, he couldn’t let himself be so easily controlled by someone.
He slowly released Xing Luo, and the woman in his arms was still panting heavily, her face flushed red.
Xing Luo buried her face in Jiang Yichen’s chest, taking a moment to compose herself.
She didn’t mind physical contact with Jiang Yichen.
Jiang Yichen had a great body, a handsome face, and he was skilled and powerful in that regard.
Since she and Jiang Yichen couldn’t have a real emotional connection, she might as well focus on the physical side.
After all, she couldn’t give so much for nothing.
Jiang Yichen rested his chin on top of Xing Luo’s head, breathing in the pleasant scent of her hair.
“I’m going on a business trip next week. Seven days.”
“Okay. Safe travels.”
Xing Luo didn’t cling, didn’t ask questions—she didn’t even ask when he was leaving.
Jiang Yichen was taken aback for a moment, then asked, “Do you want to come with me?”
Xing Luo had previously suggested going on a business trip with him, but Jiang Yichen hadn’t agreed.
But this time, it was Jiang Yichen who brought it up himself.
