Xing Luo let out a low chuckle. Every car Jiang Yichen sent to pick her up was quite ordinary. If he actually drove out that car with the license plate of six 8s, Zhou Yan would probably be scared to death.

“Why don’t you ask your boyfriend to go? Isn’t he a vice president of some group?”

Xing Luo said this deliberately. Everyone at the station could tell that her boyfriend didn’t really care about her. Every time they went out for gatherings, her boyfriend had no patience for her.Full novel: After the Good Girl Left, the Beijing Magnate Regretted It — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Either he’d complain about the noisy environment, or he’d find her too talkative.

“He…” Zhou Yan’s eyes darted away. “He’s too busy. He has a mountain of work at the company—how would he have time? Not like your boyfriend, who comes to pick you up all the time. He must be pretty free.”

She had asked her boyfriend, she really had, but she’d been rejected.

Not only that, she’d been scolded by him too—something about how hard it was to negotiate with Jiang Chen’s company for advertising, and what right did she have to go talk business with them.

She’d been thoroughly humiliated, so she turned around and recommended Xing Luo to the station director.

Wasn’t she the station’s star anchor? Wasn’t she number one in business and advertising revenue?

Fine, let her try then.

Let’s see how capable she really is.

Xing Luo glanced at Zhou Yan, said nothing, and walked straight toward the broadcast studio.

“It’s no big deal if you don’t close the deal—this task was difficult to begin with.” Zhou Yan called out from behind Xing Luo.

She watched Xing Luo’s retreating figure and let out a soft laugh.

Zhou Yan waited for Xing Luo to come back with her tail between her legs, to see if the station director would still think so highly of her then.

The higher she was lifted, the harder she’d fall.

Although Jiang Chen was Jiang Yichen’s company, Xing Luo didn’t count on closing this deal.

But since it was a task from the station director, she decided to make the trip anyway.

The next day, Xing Luo went to Jiang Chen Corporation.

She had messaged Jiang Yichen in advance, and Assistant Li was waiting for her downstairs.

“Miss Xing, President Jiang is waiting for you upstairs.”

“Okay.”

Xing Luo followed Li Xiang upstairs.

Along the way, she overheard snippets of conversation.

“This is President Jiang’s girlfriend, right?”

“I think so, though she doesn’t come around much.”

“That Miss Ji comes quite often. I thought she’d be President Jiang’s girlfriend eventually, but someone beat her to it.”

“Being the girlfriend doesn’t mean much now. Whoever ends up as Mrs. Jiang is the real winner.”

“That Miss Ji and President Jiang grew up together—they’re a perfect match.”

Li Xiang kept his head down, silent, and gave a soft cough.

Xing Luo, however, was used to it. Her expression didn’t change at all throughout the walk.

She had never once thought about being Mrs. Jiang.

Since Ji Yan wanted it so badly, she could just hand it over after a month, once she was done using Jiang Yichen.

A worthless thing, and Ji Yan treated it like treasure.

The two of them arrived at the door of Jiang Yichen’s office.

Li Xiang glanced at Xing Luo, signaling her to go straight in.

Xing Luo shook her head. “Let’s follow proper procedure.”

She didn’t want any special treatment—she wasn’t special anyway.

Li Xiang nodded and knocked on the door of Jiang Yichen’s office. “President Jiang, Miss Xing is here.”

A deep voice came from inside. “Come in.”

Li Xiang opened the office door. “Miss Xing, please go in.”

“Thank you.” Xing Luo walked into Jiang Yichen’s office and closed the door behind her.

“What’s the matter?” Jiang Yichen stared at his computer, one hand on the mouse, not looking at Xing Luo.

Xing Luo sat down across from him, her tone indifferent. “I’m here to discuss a business deal with you.”

Only then did Jiang Yichen look up at Xing Luo, letting out a light laugh. “What, a task from your station?”

“Yeah. Your company’s new game is about to launch, right? I wanted to talk about a partnership.”

Jiang Yichen looked at Xing Luo, rubbing his fingertips together.

“Why did they send you to negotiate?”

“To let me try my luck.”

“Do they know about my identity?”

“No, so I’m here to try my luck.”

Jiang Yichen smiled. “You have that little confidence in yourself?”

Xing Luo smiled along with him. “Do you think I should have that confidence?”

Jiang Yichen tilted his head, staring at Xing Luo. “That depends on how you ask.”

Xing Luo stared back at Jiang Yichen. She could never figure him out—his moods shifted entirely on a whim.

Sometimes she’d try to guess, but she’d always get it wrong.

Sometimes Xing Luo felt like she was Jiang Yichen’s pet—petted when he was happy, set aside when he wasn’t.

She’d only come this time out of respect for the station director. Whether the deal succeeded or failed, she didn’t really care.

After all, even if this negotiation failed, no one could shake her position at the station.

At worst, she’d have to endure Zhou Yan’s mockery, but that was fine—Zhou Yan had never been able to surpass her professionally anyway.

“What would Young Master Jiang like to hear? I’ll say it for you.” Xing Luo said.

Jiang Yichen looked at Xing Luo and smiled.

“Is that the attitude you use when asking someone for a favor? If you were a bit nicer, maybe I’d agree.”

“I’m not asking you for a favor. This is just a partnership.” Xing Luo curved her lips slightly, speaking with neither humility nor arrogance, as if she were genuinely negotiating a deal with Jiang Yichen.

“Since we’re talking about cooperation.” Jiang Yichen paused, as if deliberately teasing her. He touched the watch strap on his wrist, his tone lazy. “You know, our company’s game doesn’t lack publicity. After all, even before it’s released, there are already many players waiting for it…”

“Fine, I understand. Then you continue with your work, I won’t disturb you.” Xing Luo said word by word, her tone cold as ice.

She didn’t even let Jiang Yichen finish his sentence. She picked up her bag and walked straight out of the office.

She didn’t think, didn’t hesitate, and showed no expression on her face.

The entire sequence was fluid and seamless.

She didn’t want to see Jiang Yichen’s condescending attitude either. If it wasn’t going to work, then so be it.

Why put herself through that misery?

Ask him for help? Even more impossible.

The slam of the door startled Jiang Yichen.

Before he could react, Xing Luo had already walked out.

He stared blankly at the doorway, let out a cold laugh, and sank heavily into his chair.

“She’s really grown a backbone.”

Knock, knock, knock. The moment he finished speaking, a knock sounded at the door.

Jiang Yichen sneered. “She’s coming back after all.”

“Come in.”

The door opened. It was Li Xiang.

The smile on Jiang Yichen’s face instantly froze.

Li Xiang: “President Jiang, Miss Xing drove off.”

Jiang Yichen straightened up from his chair. “Where did she go?”

Li Xiang shook his head awkwardly. “Well… Miss Xing didn’t say. But she seemed quite upset.”

“Got it.” Jiang Yichen’s tone was icy.

Li Xiang looked at Jiang Yichen and spoke in a weak voice, “President Jiang, should I go after Miss Xing and bring her back?”

Jiang Yichen said nothing, just gave Li Xiang a cold glare.

Li Xiang understood Jiang Yichen’s meaning and said no more.

He knew that Jiang Yichen was waiting for Xing Luo to come back on her own, just like before.

Li Xiang exited the office and closed the door.

Jiang Yichen pushed off with both feet, and the chair rolled backward, slamming against the wall with a thud.

He gripped the sides of the chair tightly with both hands.

A surge of anger rose within him. He hadn’t expected Xing Luo to walk out so decisively.

Ask for help? Was that the attitude she should have?

Jiang Yichen looked at the doorway and let out a sneer.

Within an hour, she’d definitely come back to beg him.
