He Yushen’s period of susceptibility lasted for two or three days. Although he did not require Nan Yi’s pheromones every single moment, Nan Yi was still exhausted to the point of being almost unable to get out of bed.
There were a few times when even his meals were brought into the room by the housekeeper.
He Yushen did not go to the company, choosing to work from home instead. It was only on the day his susceptibility phase concluded completely that he finally returned to the office.
On that day, He Yushen woke up early to prepare for work as usual. Before leaving, he glanced at the person still fast asleep on the bed.
The person, still bearing traces of tears, was buried peacefully in the soft quilt, with only a small head peeking out. He looked like a small, soft, glutinous rabbit.
Nan Yi woke up at noon. He opened his swollen eyes and turned his head to stare blankly at the lush greenery just outside the window.
After watching for half an hour, he finally moved slowly to get out of bed. The skin exposed beneath his oversized shirt was startling; anyone who saw it would know how intense things had been.
Nan Yi’s legs went weak, and he nearly collapsed. After barely steadying himself, he looked at the shirt he was wearing, which did not belong to him.
He frowned, then turned to the bottom drawer of the wardrobe. Among a few neatly folded garments, he took out a loose casual outfit.
He folded the discarded shirt and left it on the bed, knowing the housekeeper would come to collect it for washing.
“Mr. Nan is awake.”
The dining room was the same as it had been on the morning Nan Yi first arrived at the villa. The housekeeper stood to the side, while Song Jing sat at the table eating.
Nan Yi nodded at the kind housekeeper and sat down at the dining table.
Song Jing’s behavior today was quite surprising to Nan Yi. Throughout the meal, he did not say a word to mock him, even though his expression was more unpleasant than on any other day.
I would like to go out for a while.
Today was Friday. After the meal, Song Jing left the house, and Nan Yi walked up to the housekeeper, showing him the message he had typed on his phone.
“Today? Perhaps another day, Mr. Nan,” the housekeeper said, looking at him with a troubled expression.
Nan Yi frowned slightly in confusion.
Is it inconvenient?
The housekeeper replied, “Today is Elder Yan’s birthday banquet. Given your relationship with Young Master He, you must attend together this evening.”
Nan Yi was taken aback.
Are you sure I am supposed to attend as well?
He found it hard to believe that He Yushen would actually take him to a banquet. Was He Yushen not afraid that he would lose face?
The housekeeper smiled and nodded. “Yes, Mr. Nan. You should attend. After all, Young Master He’s marriage is public knowledge, and everyone knows he has an omega. It would be impolite not to bring you along.”
Nan Yi nodded blankly.
So, it was not that He Yushen did not find him an eyesore; it was simply that the news of their marriage had been made public, and he was obligated to bring him along.
Since he could not leave the house, Nan Yi felt stifled staying in the villa all day.
Then, I will go for a walk outside, Nan Yi gestured toward the road outside the main gate.
After receiving the housekeeper’s nod, Nan Yi slowly strolled along the path outside the villa. Although it was already autumn, the weather was still a bit sultry. Combined with his still-weak legs, he felt tired before he had gone very far.
By chance, a wild sunflower grew by the roadside, so he squatted down in front of it to rest while admiring it.
When he grew tired of squatting, he sat down on the ground.
Because of the sudden movement, he winced in pain. Seeing some large, unidentified leaves nearby, he pondered for a moment before reaching out to pick two. He folded the long leaves into a triangular shape to place on his head for shade and used the others as a cushion on the ground.
“Brother Shen, are we not going directly to Brother Yan’s house?”
In the backseat of the black Maybach, the omega gazed adoringly at the cold, sharp-featured alpha beside him.
The alpha was looking down at a paper contract without even lifting his head.
“We are going back to pick him up.”
The omega’s expression stiffened instantly, and he showed clear disgust, as if he detested the person the alpha was talking about.
“He cannot even speak. Won’t bringing him be a loss of face for you? If everyone knows you married a low-quality omega, they will surely laugh at you,” Song Jing muttered in a low, frowning voice.
“Xiao Jing!”
He Yushen lifted his head with a cold face, glancing at Song Jing beside him with displeasure.
Song Jing froze, yet he remained unconvinced.
In the past, He Yushen would only ever take him to any events he attended. Consequently, he shifted all his dissatisfaction onto Nan Yi.
“Young Master, should I pull over?” the driver suddenly asked.
Before He Yushen could speak, Song Jing, who was trying to suppress his dissatisfaction, darkened his face. However, he still used his sweet, soft voice to say, “We have not reached home yet. Why pull over?”
The person driving today happened to be the same driver who had taken Nan Yi to the house, so he had recognized Nan Yi sitting by the roadside from a distance.
“Madam is sitting by the side of the road. Should we pick him up?”
He Yushen frowned slightly as he looked up again, immediately catching sight of Nan Yi with a leaf on his head not far away.
When Song Jing heard the driver’s words, he could no longer maintain his sweet facade and corrected the driver with a cold face.
“Are you referring to Mr. Nan?” His tone was no longer sweet, and he deliberately emphasized his words.
He Yushen commanded, “Pull over.” As the alpha finished speaking, the car came to a stop right behind Nan Yi.
The sound of the car tires grinding against the ground was loud enough to interrupt Nan Yi’s daze.
He turned his head, wearing his makeshift sun hat, and met the frowning, scrutinizing gaze from inside the car window.
Making eye contact with He Yushen, Nan Yi froze and felt a bit awkward.
After all, he was an adult; feeling a sense of shame at being seen in such a childish state was inevitable. A blush slowly crept up his face, while the person inside the car was tightly frowning as he looked at the top of his head.
He Yushen said coldly, “Get in the car.”
After saying this, he lowered his head to continue reading the contract in his hand and leaned his body slightly toward Song Jing.
Nan Yi took the hat off his head, placed it on the ground, and walked toward the car. Only when he got closer did he see Song Jing, who was sitting behind the bowed alpha with a cold expression.
Nan Yi hesitated and stopped his movements. He turned his steps and went to the front passenger seat. Before getting in, he even brushed the dust off his pants.
Seeing that no one had sat down beside him after a long time and that the car door had not moved, He Yushen frowned and looked up with displeasure.
“Why are you so slow?” He had intended to reprimand the person who was like a snail, but when his gaze caught the small head in the front passenger seat, he swallowed his words.
“What is wrong, Brother Shen?”
Song Jing’s arm was pressed against He Yushen’s. He secretly moved away with joy, his head intentionally rubbing against He Yushen’s neck while he spoke.
He Yushen shifted closer to the car window and said coldly, “Nothing.”
Sitting in the middle of the backseat, He Yushen immediately shifted back to the edge, leaving a large gap in the middle.
Song Jing’s upturned lips stiffened. When he looked at the side profile of the person in the front passenger seat, who was quietly watching the road ahead, he frowned in disgust.
When the car stopped at the villa, Nan Yi was the first one ready to jump out.
Once again, because of the range of motion, his expression stiffened, and he got out of the car with extremely unnatural movements.
He Yushen glanced at the anxious head in front. Without waiting for the driver to open the door, he also got out, just in time to see Nan Yi’s stiff movements as he exited the car with his back toward him.
He raised his eyebrows in a good mood.
