He Yushen frowned as he looked at Nan Yi, who was pulling back his hand but still gripping his clothes stubbornly. He was annoyed that the Omega, who was clearly so afraid of him, was still so persistent about him eating breakfast.
Remembering the faint trace of soothing pheromones in the room when he woke up that morning, He Yushen strode toward the dining table. Nan Yi’s hand was shaken off by him, and he sat down, frowning at the simple breakfast before him: a bowl of white porridge, a fried egg, and a sausage.
“Did you make this?” He Yushen asked. It was vastly different from his usual breakfast, and the fried egg was a bit overcooked.
Nan Yi, who had followed closely behind, nodded, rubbing his hands together in a jittery manner.
He Yushen stared at the bowl of porridge, which had already cooled slightly, for a long time. Finally, he picked it up and began to drink it slowly.
“Where did he go?” He Yushen asked, putting down his bowl halfway through his meal, his voice cold without looking up.
Nan Yi was startled for a moment before realizing he was asking about the housekeeper. He paused, then made a simple gesture: he extended two fingers to mimic a walking motion, crossing them back and forth, and pointed toward the front door.
He Yushen’s expression did not change, though his chopsticks paused for a second as he picked up the egg. For the rest of the meal, he ate in silence.
“Go out later and buy a phone to replace yours.” Before leaving, He Yushen threw a card in front of Nan Yi.
Nan Yi stared blankly at the card on the table.
“Don’t go off flirting with other Alphas.”
Having dropped these words, He Yushen strode out of the door, leaving Nan Yi standing alone in the living room. Why does it feel so strange? It feels like being kept as a mistress.
Nan Yi stared at the card for a long time. Eventually, he decided to take it and head out; his phone was broken, after all, and needed to be replaced. Besides, He Yushen was the one who had smashed it, so there was nothing wrong with using his money to buy a new one.
Nan Yi bought a phone for three or four thousand, similar in price to his old one, without using any extra money from the card. He happily played with his new device, changing the wallpaper, logging into the WeChat he rarely used, and downloading an app for reading comics. He was so focused on the screen that he did not notice the person walking toward him.
When a pair of polished leather shoes appeared on the ground in front of him, Nan Yi looked up in confusion and met a pair of beautiful peach blossom eyes. His pupils constricted: it was Dr. Bai.
Beside Bai Shanyao was a cute little Omega, whose arm was intimately wrapped around Bai Shanyao’s. At the sight of Nan Yi, Bai Shanyao, who had been frowning slightly, looked surprised, and a faint joy crept onto his face.
“I saw you from far away just now. Why didn’t you tell me you were coming out?” Bai Shanyao said. He extracted his arm from the Omega’s grasp as if relieved and pinched Nan Yi’s cheek. His face was a mixture of excitement and a touch of reproach.
Nan Yi was stunned into silence, standing frozen with his new phone still suspended in mid-air.
The Omega beside them looked on in disbelief: “You two?”
Bai Shanyao pulled the dazed Nan Yi into his arms. A faint, refreshing scent of pine needles from his sleeve wafted toward Nan Yi. Bai Shanyao acted with extreme naturalness, looking at Nan Yi with total doting affection.
“Are you still angry? How about I take you shopping to make it up to you?”
His tone was as sweet as a lover’s, and he even gently pinched Nan Yi’s earlobe. Stimulated by the touch, Nan Yi shrank his neck back in sensitivity, his eyes and mouth wide open in disbelief as he looked at Dr. Bai.
“Stop being angry, baby.”
The shocked expression on the other Omega’s face turned into fury. He scolded, “Brother Shanyao, who is he? Didn’t Uncle say you were single?”
Bai Shanyao looked guilty and said helplessly: “I am sorry, Xiao Lin. It is my fault. Xiao Nan and I were in a cold war a few days ago, and I only went on that blind date out of spite. I wasted your time.”
“That car I mentioned just now will be my apology gift. I will have it delivered to your house tonight.”
The Omega glared at him, angrily throwing the gift box he was holding onto the ground: “Who wants your charity!”
The Omega turned and hurried away. Bai Shanyao’s guilty expression vanished, and he released his grip on Nan Yi’s stiff shoulders.
“Mr. Nan, I am truly sorry.”
The person in front of him looked shocked, his earlobes flushed pink. Bai Shanyao stopped mid-sentence, a smile appearing on his calm face.
“Mr. Nan,” Bai Shanyao called out to the person who was still in a daze.
Nan Yi came back to his senses and looked up at the smiling Bai Shanyao, feeling a bit awkward.
“Sorry about just now. I acted that intimately without your permission.” Bai Shanyao smiled gently, and it felt as if his surroundings had warmed up.
Nan Yi shook his head and lowered his head to type: “It is okay, but that sweet Omega misunderstood.”
Bai Shanyao chuckled: “I wanted him to misunderstand.”
Huh? Nan Yi looked up in confusion. “Why?”
Bai Shanyao did not answer the question. Instead, he looked around and said: “Let us find a place to sit for a while. Are you free, Mr. Nan?”
Since he had finally run into Bai Shanyao, Nan Yi remembered his intention to thank him and nodded, following him into a bubble tea shop. Nan Yi was surprised; he had assumed someone like Bai Shanyao would always go to coffee shops, not a bubble tea place. However, this shop looked quite high-end, and the prices were equally high-end.
Nan Yi frowned slightly as he looked at the drink menu. A single cup of bubble tea cost twenty or thirty yuan! He ordered a drink at random and pushed the menu toward Bai Shanyao.
Bai Shanyao did not look at it: “Give me one just like his.”
Sitting face-to-face with an Alpha was awkward for Nan Yi, especially with a man like Bai Shanyao, whose good looks were not inferior to He Yushen’s. The only difference was that one was gentle while the other had a volatile temper.
“Does Dr. Bai also like drinking bubble tea?”
Bai Shanyao glanced at Nan Yi’s phone, his lips curling slightly: “I am fine with anything. I just figured a cute Omega like you would prefer something sweet.”
Nan Yi avoided Bai Shanyao’s gaze, thinking to himself how attentive and caring he was.
“Please just call me by my name,” Bai Shanyao continued. “I am not working at the hospital anymore.”
Nan Yi nodded again. “Thank you for last time, Brother Bai.”
Bai Shanyao raised an eyebrow: “Brother Bai! I am not that old, haha.”
Nan Yi hurriedly shook his head, quickly retracting his phone to type an explanation. He was so nervous he did not even notice he had made a typo: “You are not old. I just thought calling you Brother Bai sounded more intimate.”
Bai Shanyao laughed softly, the gentleness in his eyes like an inexhaustible spring. “I was joking. I actually like that name. Last time was just a small favor, and it was my friend who was in the wrong to begin with.”
Nan Yi let out a breath of relief, his face flushing crimson. Bai Shanyao was truly gentle. An Alpha like that must be incredibly tender and doting to his own Omega.
Bai Shanyao was looking down at his phone, while Nan Yi sipped his bubble tea, staring absent-mindedly at the focused expression beneath Bai Shanyao’s glasses.
