“Sit properly.”
Outside the café, a black Cayenne sat quietly by the roadside.
Sun Jiajia rolled down the passenger window a crack, peering out with a telescope as she reported, “Mr. Huo, Young Master and Miss Qin entered this café almost two hours ago.”
Inside the car, Wang Zhi sat in the driver’s seat as the chauffeur, while Huo Lin, dressed in a formal suit and overcoat, occupied the spacious back seat.
After the meeting ended early, Sun Jiajia had reported that Huo Kairan had gone out with a friend, and Huo Lin hadn’t stopped him. But when Sun Jiajia accidentally mentioned Qin Qin’s name, Huo Lin paused in his steps, leading to the current scene.
Before Huo Lin could speak, Wang Zhi frowned first. “Assistant Sun, must you resort to such undignified methods?”
Sun Jiajia, who was hunched over with the telescope like a scout, immediately retorted, “What do you know? One is a rising star, and the other is the second son of the Huo family. Who knows if paparazzi are lurking nearby?” She turned to Wang Zhi. “Besides, is Young Master the type to chat with someone for so long? Their relationship must be special.”
Wang Zhi didn’t understand. “Special in what way?”
Sun Jiajia rolled her eyes. “Did someone dig out your romantic sensibilities, fry them, and feed them to pigs?”
Under Sun Jiajia’s exaggerated expressions, Wang Zhi finally grasped her meaning but still said honestly, “But Mr. Huo doesn’t like Miss Qin. They can’t be together.”
Sun Jiajia looked as if she had just stumbled upon a shocking piece of gossip, turning her head in astonishment.
Was she about to witness a classic drama of a wealthy family tearing apart a loving couple?!
“Here’s five million no, that’s too little. Given Mr. Huo’s wealth, it should be ‘Here’s fifty million, leave my brother.'”
The man in the back seat of the luxury car had a cold, unreadable expression as he slowly spoke, “It seems you two have too much free time.”
The two instantly fell silent.
After a moment of quiet in the car, Huo Lin said, “Give me the investigation report on Qin Qin.”
Wang Zhi immediately handed over the prepared file with both hands.
Huo Lin flipped through Qin Qin’s personal information.
Qin Qin’s resume could be described as an inspiring story.
Born in a rural area, parents divorced, with only a middle school education.
From an extra in obscure productions to the lead actress in a recent hit drama, she had fought her way up in the entertainment industry step by step.
Judging solely from her resume, there was indeed nothing to criticize.
Huo Lin closed the folder, a hint of irritation flickering between his brows.
“Young Master is coming out!” Sun Jiajia whispered urgently.
Outside the car window, a long-haired young man pushed open the glass door of the café and stepped out. Dressed in a beige cashmere coat, he looked warm and radiant under the sunlight, a smile playing on his lips as if he were in a good mood.
Huo Lin’s gaze sharpened.
Huo Kairan hadn’t noticed the car by the roadside at first and was about to walk past when the car’s lights flashed, and the rear window slowly rolled down.
A face with sharp, defined features came into view.
“Big brother?” Huo Kairan was surprised to see Huo Lin here a pleasant surprise. He opened the car door and sat beside Huo Lin. “Did you come specifically to pick me up?”
Huo Lin didn’t answer directly. “The SY series brand ambassador was set as Qin Qin. You previously said she was a fraud. I’m planning to revoke her endorsement, but I still want to hear your opinion.”
Huo Kairan quickly interjected, “Don’t say that. She got the role through a proper audition she tried eight times before being selected, which shows how much she values this opportunity. The company chose her because she best fits the product’s image.”
Huo Lin looked up. “You know so much about it? Seems like you had a pleasant chat with the scammer?”
Huo Kairan stared at him for a moment before suddenly leaning in with a smile. “Don’t call her that anymore. She’s not a scammer now she’s my mentor.”
Huo Lin’s voice grew even colder. “Mentor? What kind of favor did she do for you, and why is she your mentor?”
Huo Kairan propped his chin on his hand, grinning. “I’m not telling you.”
Huo Lin took a deep breath, shifted his gaze away, and coldly glanced at the two assistants in the front who were all ears. He said sternly, “Drive.”
Wang Zhi immediately responded, “Yes, sir.” After a moment, he asked, “So, Mr. Huo, is the spokesperson still Miss Qin?”
Sun Jiajia’s expression twitched she was utterly impressed by his nerve. The atmosphere was practically freezing over, yet he still dared to ask.
Huo Kairan answered for him, “He said yes.” Then he tilted his head to look at Huo Lin. “Right, big brother?”
Huo Lin replied, “…Mm.”
Huo Kairan blinked, surprised that the trick Qin Qin taught him actually worked.
He then put on an obedient act while inching closer to Huo Lin, half of his leg practically squeezing onto Huo Lin’s lap.
Huo Lin glanced down and shifted slightly to the side.
But every time he moved, Huo Kairan followed.
In the spacious back seat of the Cayenne, the two of them ended up squeezed into one spot.
Huo Lin said sternly, “Sit properly.”
Huo Kairan pouted, rolled up his sleeve, and revealed a smooth arm with faint red marks from friction.
It wasn’t serious, but it stood out starkly against his delicate skin.
“I’m not used to linen bedsheets, brother. Let’s go shopping at the supermarket this afternoon I want to buy new ones.”
Huo Lin only glanced briefly before quickly looking away. “I’m quite busy today and have to work overtime tonight. Let Assistant Sun take you shopping.”
Naturally, Huo Kairan wasn’t pleased and compromised, “Then tomorrow.”
Huo Lin replied, “I’m busy tomorrow too.”
He glanced at Sun Jiajia, who caught his meaning through the rearview mirror and quickly chimed in, “Yes, that’s how it’s been lately really, really busy. Young Master, I’ll go with you.”
Huo Kairan frowned delicately but didn’t respond. Instead, he asked Wang Zhi, “Assistant Wang, what time does the company get off work?”
Wang Zhi answered like Siri, “Officially, it’s 6 p.m. Beijing time.”
“Great,” Huo Kairan said, crossing his arms. “Then I’ll wait until six. Big brother, as the CEO, you should lead by example, right? Nine-to-six. We’re a proper company overtime isn’t encouraged.”
Just as Huo Lin was about to speak, Huo Kairan cut off all his excuses. “Besides, what kind of work requires staying until night? That just means inefficiency it’s pointless overtime.”
Sun Jiajia secretly gave Huo Kairan a thumbs-up. The post-00s generation was shaking up the workplace, hitting right at the heart of every overworked employee. She wished she could be that brave and sharp just once.
Huo Kairan patted the small notebook in his coat pocket and smiled. “Alright! Then it’s settled. We’ll go shopping after work?”
Huo Lin looked at his innocent smile, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly.
“Mm.”
