A female officer in her early twenties knelt beside the sofa holding a tray, her face wearing a gentle smile as she spoke in the most soothing tone she could muster.

“Little one, there are lots of tasty snacks here. You can take whatever you like to fill your stomach.” Seeing no response from the other party, she pulled out a bag of marshmallows from the tray.

“Many children love these marshmallows. Would you like to try one?”

Ji Weichen heard this and slightly raised his eyes, his gaze falling on the bag of marshmallows. His voice was childish yet carried an unmistakable aloofness, completely flat in tone.

“I hate sweet things.”

Hearing this, the policewoman was taken aback. Her eyes then fell on Ji Weichen’s hand, where a large gash split his palm open. The flesh gaped visibly, blood dripping steadily from his palm, gradually forming a small puddle on the floor.

An ordinary person with such an injury would undoubtedly be in unbearable pain, their face pale or worse.

Yet the little boy before her remained extremely quiet, not making a single sound, as if it weren’t his hand, as if he couldn’t feel any pain.

With his eyes lowered, he appeared mature far beyond his years.

“Then… let me bandage it for you. Your hand is badly injured, it must hurt a lot. I’ll be gentle.” The policewoman spoke again, tentatively reaching out to take Ji Weichen’s hand and treat his wound.

But her hand stopped midway as she met Ji Weichen’s eyes.

His pupils were hazel green – a color that should have been warm, but in his eyes carried only coldness, along with something else that made those who met his gaze instinctively uncomfortable and afraid.

How could a child have such a terrifying look in his eyes, as if a ferocious beast full of malice lurked within?

“No need,” Ji Weichen said.

“Alright… alright then. You can wait here a bit longer. The person should be out soon.” The policewoman could only set the things aside, telling Ji Weichen he could take them if he needed.

With that, she left. Most people in the lobby had their eyes on Ji Weichen.

For no other reason than that he was exceptionally good-looking. Even at his young age, one could tell how handsome he would grow up to be, though he carried a maturity and cold aloofness that didn’t match his years.

“That little boy is so good-looking, just too cold. He won’t acknowledge anyone, even with such an adorable face,” the policewoman commented to her colleague.

“Really? He looks quite soft and well-behaved to me,” her colleague responded.

Hearing this, the policewoman looked back toward Ji Weichen.

A young girl had appeared beside the sofa. She held a bag of marshmallows, tore it open, tasted one herself, then offered another to him.

“Want to try?”

Just as the policewoman thought Ji Weichen would refuse – she could tell earlier that he genuinely disliked sweet things – she then saw Ji Weichen lean forward slightly and carefully take the marshmallow from the girl’s fingertips, like a soft, adorable little creature obediently accepting being fed.

“Does it hurt?” The girl then looked down at the little boy’s wound.Just when the female officer thought Ji Weichen wouldn’t respond, she saw him—who hadn’t even furrowed his brow moments before—gently raise his hand, lowering his eyes with soft black hair cascading down. The hostility and aloofness about him seemed to instantly vanish.

Like a little puppy deliberately dampening its fur, begging for its owner’s pity and affection, acting coquettishly.

“It hurts.”

Author’s note: Not a quick transmigration story, but a modern romance with a fake death plot. I can’t write sunny characters, so let’s go for a dark-themed redemption sweet story. I’m not very skilled at writing this type, so it probably won’t be too long. Both the male and female leads are unconventional characters, both dark personalities with some psychological issues…
