Wen Zhiyu couldn’t understand.
“I can’t be afraid of cats for the rest of my life.”
Li Moyuan’s back was straight, yet it betrayed an unprecedented stiffness.
The black-and-white cat, as if unable to read his expression, kept circling around him, constantly looking for a chance to get closer.
“Brother, it’s not that you’re afraid of cats—you’re just allergic. Everyone has things they’re afraid of. Like me, I’m most afraid of snakes.”
“You said you liked snakes and wanted to keep one.”
Wen Zhiyu: ?!?!
She was about to lose her mind.
No need to guess—it must have been the original owner who said that.
The original owner had some nerve, and Li Moyuan had way too good a memory.
He could remember even a casual remark.
Wen Zhiyu grabbed her hair and denied it. “The past is the past. Now he’s a weirdo.”
“Hm?”
“No, I mean—now is now.”
Wen Zhiyu bit her lip. The screen reflected her rosy cheeks.
She reached up and cupped her face. Mm, another day of being captivated by her own looks.
Li Moyuan let out a soft laugh, his deep, pleasant voice coming through the receiver.
“Now you’re adorable.”
Where he couldn’t see her, Wen Zhiyu blushed.
Da Ju was on the lookout for the unfamiliar cat. The two cats were having a long-distance conversation, meowing back and forth.
Wen Zhiyu simply picked up Da Ju and set her next to the phone.
“By the way, is your cat male or female?”
“Male.”
“Mine’s a female. We can have them mate later.”
“Okay.”
Li Moyuan silently abandoned the idea of getting his cat neutered.
After saying that, Wen Zhiyu snapped back to reality.
Da Ju wouldn’t stay by her side forever, and she couldn’t meet Li Moyuan in person.
Having the cats mate—what was she even thinking?
“We’ll talk about it later. My Da Ju might not even take a liking to your cat.”
“We’ll let them meet. Mine is a Maine Coon. He’s very handsome.”
“How would they meet?”
“Video call.”
Wen Zhiyu didn’t dare. Her fingers gripped the cotton nightgown she was wearing, and her palms were sweating from nervousness.
“No, let’s not.”
She didn’t want to reveal herself to Li Moyuan prematurely.
“We don’t have to show our faces.”
Li Moyuan’s gaze softened a little, and his tone was strangely reassuring.
Wen Zhiyu hesitated for a long time before agreeing.
The video connected, but Li Moyuan didn’t appear in the frame.
A beautiful black-and-white cat stared back with round, wide eyes, its nose a soft pink, and the black fur on its back forming a heart shape.
Wen Zhiyu didn’t know what Da Ju thought of it, but she loved it.
“So handsome.”
“It’s a Maine Coon.”
Long, slender fingers landed on the Maine Coon’s head, smoothing down its fur.
The next second, the scene shifted dramatically.
The Maine Coon arched its back, fur bristling all over, looking ready to attack at any moment.
“Da Hei, behave yourself.”
The man’s voice was deep and slow, brushing against Wen Zhiyu’s ears like a feather lightly grazing her skin.
“Brother, that’s such a lazy name.”
“Yours is Da Ju.”
Wen Zhiyu fell silent.
Fine, Da Ju wasn’t exactly a creative name either.
On the other end, Da Hei swiped a paw at Li Moyuan’s hand, play-fighting with him.
Compared to him, Da Ju was practically a gentle little lady.
“Brother, your cat doesn’t really look like a Maine Coon—at least not a purebred one. I suspect it has some cow cat genes.”
Li Moyuan had never kept cats before, and the first thing he did was get a high-maintenance breed.
Wen Zhiyu couldn’t help it. She hugged Da Ju and burst out laughing.
Da Ju lay obediently in her arms, watching Da Hei put on his little show.
“Cow cat?”
Li Moyuan was equally baffled.
“Yep. It’s a type of cat that’s absolutely bonkers.”
Wen Zhiyu almost felt sorry for Li Moyuan.
“I see. I’ll have my assistant look into it later.”
Li Moyuan looked at the camera. Da Ju was lying obediently on the little dress, her dark, glossy eyes fixed on him.
He called out Da Ju’s name.
“Meow.”
Da Ju leaned closer to the phone, as if responding.
Wen Zhiyu had prepared thoroughly, putting on a mask and a hat as a disguise.
She switched the camera to the rear-facing mode, making sure only Da Ju would appear in the video.
Once you have a cat, you have to take on the responsibilities that come with it—feeding, scooping litter, and so on.
She couldn’t imagine Li Moyuan scooping cat litter. He probably had a housekeeper handle that.
Li Moyuan was busy with work; he definitely wouldn’t have time for it.
With a cat in the picture, the two of them had plenty more to talk about, chatting until late.
Wen Zhiyu checked the time—it was already past ten.
After tidying up a bit, she could head straight to bed.
“Brother, I need to log off now. Good night.”
Wen Zhiyu grabbed Da Ju’s paw and waved it at the screen, her pink toe beans appearing in the camera.
“Good night.”
“Guess what constellation I am? Made just for you.”
The cheesy line slipped out of her mouth, and she shuddered at herself. She needed to detox from all that cringe.
Li Moyuan responded with a cool, aloof “Mm.”
After the call ended, Wen Zhiyu clenched her fist with fighting spirit, holding the little cat paw. The revolution wasn’t over yet—she needed to keep pushing forward.
“Meow.”
Li Moyuan contacted Wei Jiang to confirm Da Hei’s breed.
Wei Jiang stared in shock at the Maine Coon sparring with his boss.
When he’d chosen the breed, he’d picked the quietest one.
What was quiet about this cat?
His career was about to be ruined by a cat.
He knew that Li Moyuan was allergic to cat fur and couldn’t keep cats, so he assumed the cat was bought as a gift for someone else. It turned out Li Moyuan was keeping it himself.
Wei Jiang didn’t dare waste any time and went to the pet shop to confirm with the owner.
Arriving at the shop, he saw a sign on the door that read: “Grandma is getting married, gone home for the wedding feast, won’t be back for a few days.”
Wei Jiang’s fingers trembled.
What the hell—Grandma’s getting married? He wanted to ask the owner which marriage this was for Grandma.
Clearly, the pet shop owner had caught wind that the cat was out of the bag and had fled.
Inside the cage, Big Black was picking the lock, staging a jailbreak.
Wei Jiang grabbed it by the scruff and mercilessly shoved it back inside, then went to another pet shop and had the owner confirm.
When he returned to the company, Wei Jiang looked utterly defeated.
Big Black really did have cow cat genes—it wasn’t a purebred Maine Coon.
The cow cat genes were too strong; its temperament was more like that of a cow cat.
“Mr. Li, I’m sorry, I messed up. I’ll buy you another Maine Coon.”
Li Moyuan stared at Big Black, who had escaped from the cage, and thought of the little fairy’s sweet laughter. He waved his hand.
Wei Jiang wiped his eyes.
Thank goodness—it was a cow cat. He was saved.
Li Moyuan shared the news, praising Wen Zhiyu for being amazing.
Little Fairy: [Hmph, don’t you know who I am? I’m the invincible little fairy of the world.]
If she were a cat, her tail would definitely be sticking straight up in the air.
A faint smile flickered in Li Moyuan’s dark eyes.
“My most, most, most amazing brother, I need your help urgently—my piano exam is coming up. Can you help me?”
Li Manzhu’s message came out of nowhere.
Children raised in the Li family, besides their required professional knowledge, were also well-versed in a variety of hobbies and interests.
Li Moyuan was among the best of them, having passed the piano grade ten exam and able to play world-famous pieces at will.
Had he continued to develop in piano, given time, he could certainly have become a master.
He stopped in his tracks.
For someone with his talent, Li Manzhu could only feel envy upon envy.
Li Moyuan ignored her, glanced at the content of the message, lowered his eyes, and lightly tapped on the screen.
LMY: [Want a part-time job?]
