The CEO’s Little Wife 1 1
The words he had originally wanted to lecture him with were all swallowed back down. Shen Yan reached out and touched Qiao Yu’s foot again. It was cold as ice, as if no matter how much he tried to warm it, it could never be warmed up again.
“Let’s eat first.”
When he first came in, he had seen Aunt Zhou feeding Qiao Yu congee, and when he saw Qiao Yu’s trembling calves, he immediately guessed that while he was away, Qiao Yu had gone back to sleeping and skipping meals.
Shen Yan went to the kitchen to wash his hands. When he came back, Qiao Yu was already sitting obediently in front of the chair, waiting for him to eat. Aunt Zhou stood by the side, continuously adding food to Qiao Yu’s bowl and plate.
The scene was ordinary, yet heartwarming.
Shen Yan’s heart unconsciously softened a little. When he walked up to the chair, he seemed to casually pull something out of his pocket and pushed it in front of Qiao Yu.
“Hm?”
Qiao Yu still had the sweet and sour pork ribs Aunt Zhou had picked up for him in his mouth. When he saw the velvet box in front of him, he tilted his head in some confusion.
Shen Yan could not help it. He reached out and ruffled Qiao Yu’s hair, hiding the smile at the corner of his lips. “Open it and take a look,” he said.
Qiao Yu was a little curious. He swallowed the meat in his mouth, reached out, and picked up the box. Only after opening it did he realize that there was actually a ring inside.
The ring had two grooves. The larger one was not in the box, while the slimmer one was still lying safely inside. The outer band was set with a row of small diamonds, and the inner band seemed to have something engraved on it, but Qiao Yu could not see clearly.
“This is…”
“A wedding ring.” Shen Yan’s tone was flat when he answered, as if it were just an ordinary object with no special meaning at all.
Qiao Yu looked up at him, only then noticing that Shen Yan’s hand somehow already had a ring on it. Looking closely, it seemed to be the same style as the one in the box.
So he had put his on first?
As if he had seen through Qiao Yu’s question, Shen Yan gently put down his chopsticks and looked over. “To make up for it.”
If he did not know how miserably he would be tormented later, Qiao Yu would almost really have believed that Shen Yan was a good husband. Would an arranged marriage even remember to make up a ring for his wife? No wonder the original host had loved him so desperately.
Would wearing a ring make hitting someone hurt more?
Qiao Yu’s thoughts had gone off in the wrong direction. It was not until he felt a warm touch on his hand and looked down that he realized Shen Yan had already taken the ring out of the box and was about to put it on Qiao Yu’s hand.
The ring size was just right, fitting Qiao Yu’s slender fingers perfectly. It would not slip off, and it would not pinch after being worn for too long.
Qiao Yu had a pair of very beautiful hands, white and smooth like porcelain, with long, slender joints, like a newly grown green bamboo.
Shen Yan turned it gently a couple of times, a satisfied look appearing in his eyes. When the one big hand and the one small hand overlapped, the diamonds on the ring reflected each other’s light, making it look very beautiful.
By the time Shen Yan finally finished admiring it and let go of Qiao Yu’s hand, Qiao Yu had already yawned three times in a row and was utterly exhausted.
“I want to sleep.”
Shen Yan really felt that this person was like a cat, sleeping all day long, and even when he was not sleeping, he still wanted to lie down.
“We haven’t gone for a walk yet.”
Shen Yan’s words made Qiao Yu feel as if he were facing a great enemy. He quickly shrank back into the chair and immediately started acting pitiful.
“Not today. I really can’t. I don’t feel very well and want to rest.”
Perhaps because Qiao Yu’s words this time had some credibility, or perhaps because of the ring, Shen Yan was in a pretty good mood, so he did not force Qiao Yu to go for a walk with him as he did every day. Instead, he mercifully nodded and let Qiao Yu go.
After dinner, Shen Yan went to the study to work for two hours. When he finished and returned to the bedroom, just as he had expected, Qiao Yu had rolled himself into the blanket again and had not even heard him calling him, which showed how soundly he was sleeping.
At first, Shen Yan thought Qiao Yu had taken off his cochlear implant, which was why he could not hear. But just as he went to the bedside to wake Qiao Yu up so he could wash up before sleeping, he touched Qiao Yu’s burning skin.
One must know that Qiao Yu’s body was almost always cold. After sleeping in the same bed for so many days, Shen Yan had practically held him in his arms every night. Even after a full night of his own body heat, he still could not warm Qiao Yu up. How could he suddenly be warm now?
Shen Yan’s voice unconsciously carried a hint of panic and trembling. He hurriedly pulled Qiao Yu, who had his head buried in the blanket, out.
He really had a fever.
The young man’s usually snow-white face was now flushed red by the fever. Although his body was burning hot, his hands and feet were cold. He seemed to be having trouble breathing, and even the breath coming out of Qiao Yu’s bright red lips was hot.
“Qiao Yu? Qiao Yu!”
Shen Yan quickly walked to the closet, took a thick coat, and wrapped it around the young man’s slender body. Then he carried Qiao Yu and rushed downstairs.
Aunt Zhou happened to run into them downstairs. Seeing Shen Yan carrying the unconscious Qiao Yu and rushing out, she also shouted anxiously, “What happened again?”
Shen Yan shook his head. “He has a fever. I’m taking Qiao Yu to the hospital first.”
Taking advantage of Aunt Zhou’s dazed moment, Shen Yan was already in the car. On the way, Qiao Yu was almost delirious from the fever. No matter how Shen Yan called him, he could only half-open his eyes and whimper softly.
Qiao Yu, who had only been discharged from the hospital a couple of days ago, was sent back again, and even to the same ward.
Even the doctor rarely saw someone with such a weak constitution. When he saw Shen Yan carrying Qiao Yu, he wondered if there had been a car accident, since he was making such a dramatic scene.
But when he asked, it turned out to be a fever.
However, when he saw Qiao Yu’s list of allergens, the doctor’s expression still became serious. Qiao Yu could not use any normal antiviral or antibiotic medicine. If the fever really got worse, it would indeed be somewhat serious.
In the end, they used antiallergy medicine and a fever-reducing injection together. Only by using both at once did they barely bring Qiao Yu’s high fever down. The only suffering was that Qiao Yu had a very strong reaction to the medicine and vomited several times.
Shen Yan was a little anxious and could not understand why a normal fever would cause vomiting. The doctor could not explain it clearly either and could only tell him that it was fine, that Qiao Yu’s constitution was just relatively sensitive.
Right after that, the doctor asked whether Qiao Yu had eaten something he should not have. Shen Yan fell silent.
Because he did not know.
The doctor then asked whether he had caught a chill, which was why he had developed a fever.
Shen Yan, who had been in class all day, was extremely ashamed.
He still did not know.
The doctor was furious at his incompetence and finally asked a killing question: had he had contact with someone who had a cold?
Shen Yan immediately lowered his head.
He knew nothing.
Doctor: ?
“How do you even qualify as a husband?”
Shen Yan was so ashamed that he immediately fell into deep self-reflection and self-criticism.
It was utterly unforgivable to neglect his weak, helpless wife because of work.
“It was my oversight. I’ll definitely pay more attention from now on.”
Doctor: “If paying attention were enough, what would we need divorce for?”
Shen Yan: !
“That is too harsh.”
