The doctor felt along Su Chuiyun’s bones inch by inch. “Does it hurt here?”
Su Chuiyun shrank back slightly, looking at Ming Shu as if pleading for help.
“It hurts a little.”
“How about here?” The doctor moved to a different spot.
Su Chuiyun: “It hurts.”
There was actually nothing wrong with her legs, so naturally, she didn’t know which bone should hurt and which should be fine, she could only talk nonsense based on her gut feeling.
Ming Shu frowned. “Be gentler.”
The doctor’s expression turned somewhat complicated. He switched to another bone and continued pressing down. “Does it hurt here too?”
“Mm.”
“Doctor, do you think I’m almost recovered?” Su Chuiyun felt a bit guilty being poked and prodded, so she controlled her wheelchair to back up two steps.
The doctor pushed up the bridge of his glasses and finally took off his disposable gloves. “Based on my decades of medical experience, your legs have suffered comminuted fractures. I’m afraid they might never heal in this lifetime.”
Su Chuiyun: “…” Doctor, your mouth is certainly “sweet.”
Ming Shu: “…”
The doctor seemed to see through Su Chuiyun’s guilt. He turned to briefly explain the situation to Ming Shu. “The patient is recovering well, but I’m afraid the pain nerves haven’t recovered yet. She needs to rest properly.”
Ming Shu didn’t doubt him. “Comminuted fractures?”
Doctor: “The possibility cannot be ruled out.”
Ming Shu thought to herself: the way Su Chuiyun hooked her waist last night didn’t look like someone with comminuted fractures.
After seeing the doctor out, Ming Shu had the driver put the gifts for her grandfather into the car. “There’s tendon and pork bone soup simmering in the kitchen, remember to drink it.”
The blind young lady sitting obediently in the wheelchair nodded. “Sister, don’t worry.”
The little secretary following behind Ming Shu thought to herself: How could President Ming possibly not worry? She watched as her boss gave instructions like she was talking to a small child: “Don’t open the door for strangers. I’ve set a special ringtone for my number, don’t answer if it’s a stranger’s number. Don’t touch the kettle. Sister Chen will be here in half an hour. If you’re hungry, there’s food in the fridge.”
Ming Shu reached out and stroked the top of her little girlfriend’s head. “Why are you shaking?”
Su Chuiyun thought: I’m nervous!
She quietly observed Ming Shu. With a face as flawless as jade, the Ming Shu in the book was like the most favored darling of the Creator not a single blemish anywhere. When she lowered her eyes to look at her tenderly, it made one feel honored from the bottom of their heart.
Su Chuiyun sat as straight as an elementary student: “Comminuted fractures.”
Ming Shu: “…” You’d better be.
Like an adult heading out to work to support the family, Ming Shu only left uneasily after comforting her “cub.”
Su Chuiyun obediently watched Ming Shu leave, her gaze glued to Ming Shu’s graceful figure until she got into the car.
Ming Shu hadn’t said whether she believed it or not, but at least she hadn’t continued to pursue the matter of the original host’s secret crush on Song Xi.
Inside the luxury car.
Ming Shu rested with her eyes closed, her long eyelashes casting a shadow on her face.
The little secretary driving said softly, “The Old Master’s condition isn’t very good.”
Ming Shu gave an “mm” in response. “Has the ophthalmologist been found?”
The secretary’s shoulders slumped nervously. “No news yet.”
Ming Shu closed her eyes. When she spent time with Su Chuiyun, she often felt that Su Chuiyun’s eyes were fine, she could avoid pebbles and sense changes in light.
However, the medical records in black and white stated without exception that Su Chuiyun was indeed blind.
Facing Su Chuiyun’s innocent little face, Ming Shu couldn’t bring herself to get angry at all.
The luxury car stopped at the hospital entrance. At an invitation, Ming Shu went up to the special ward.
“Yo, Ming Shu finally shows up?” Her adoptive mother looked at Ming Shu with a cold, snide remark. She stood in front of her son who was already disfigured looking as if she wanted to devour Ming Shu with her eyes.
“How is Grandpa?”
Ming Shu acted as if she hadn’t heard her and went straight to check the medical records hanging at the foot of the bed.
Her adoptive father’s expression toward Ming Shu was slightly better, though the greed in his eyes was almost palpable.
“The doctor said the Old Master just fell into a coma. I’m afraid he only has a few days left.”
When the Old Master was healthy, his demands on the adoptive father were incredibly high as strict as a boss. The father had long harbored resentment.
There was a piece of paper by the bedside. When the Old Master was conscious, he had circled Ming Shu’s name several times, hesitating whether to leave her part of the inheritance.
The adoptive mother pointed her sharp red nails at her son’s face. “Look at what Ming Shu did! I always said she was a jinx! An outsider actually dared to hit my son.”
“The Old Master was right, the property shouldn’t be left to Ming Shu. What does a girl need so much money for anyway?”
The adoptive father had just signed a contract and met with an international designer, he was busy imagining how much money he would make. With murky eyes, he tried to smooth things over: “We’re all family, why talk like we’re strangers? Doesn’t Ming Shu also have the last name Ming?”
The Old Master wore a ventilator. Every breath left a layer of white mist on the transparent mask.
Ming Shu placed her gift in the corner, her hand in a leather glove holding a briefcase.
Even the adoptive father didn’t realize that his tone had become a bit more respectful. “The design quote and subsequent material costs provided by that Ms. Belinda are a bit high. Ming Shu, what do you think…”
The adoptive mother carefully touched the wounds on her son’s face, whispering curses about her husband not being on her side.
Ming Shu stood by the door watching this scene coldly. Just as her adoptive father opened the door to lead her to the stairwell for a detailed talk, she walked to the bedside under everyone’s gaze and quietly looked at her grandfather for a few moments.
In the past, every time she came home, Grandpa would give her candy, chase butterflies in the courtyard with her, and let her play with precious porcelain as if they were toys. But after her younger brother was born, everything changed…
When Grandpa found out she had secured a spot at a foreign university, his first reaction was to tell her to give it to her brother even though her brother wasn’t even old enough for university yet.
The obsession with favoring males over females was etched into the very bones of the older generation’s thinking.
Ming Shu elegantly used two fingers to pick up the paper with her name circled on it, folded it twice, and tucked it into her pocket.
“The Old Master’s consciousness is clouded. I’ve brought lawyers; let’s draft a properly regulated will.”
Several lawyers in suits were standing at the ward door. Not only that, there were people from the notary office, a sea of black in the white hospital room.
The expressions of the adoptive mother and several uncles turned ugly. “Ming Shu, the Old Master isn’t even dead yet! Do you have any conscience?!”
The adoptive father also felt it was inappropriate and hissed, “Ming Shu!”
Ming Shu: “The contract.”
The adoptive father’s lips twitched. In the end, he said nothing and stepped out into the quiet corridor first.
The Old Master’s company was already a burden to the father since Ming Shu wanted it, why not put it on the scale to trade for a bigger bargaining chip?
The adoptive father sighed feignedly. “Belinda’s material requirements are too high, most need to be imported. The initial investment is truly difficult.”
Ming Shu: “You can take out a loan.”
Adoptive Father: “…That’s not what I meant.”
Ming Shu smiled like a fox. “You mean…”
Adoptive Father: “Ming Shu, the supplier you provided is good, but your uncle introduced a better one, the price is two-thirds cheaper.”
The adoptive father practically stated his intent to use substandard materials out in the open.
The complaints on Ming Shu’s backend hadn’t been withdrawn yet, here was someone looking for trouble by adding new evidence against themselves.
Ming Shu’s smile widened: “I’m afraid it won’t pass inspection.”
The adoptive father waved his hand with a greedy smile. “Can’t we just bribe our way through? Don’t you worry.”
“As for Ms. Belinda, I’ll leave that to you. We are family after all.”
There are always people who want to challenge the limits of the law. Ming Shu saw her once-stern father acting like a greedy dog in front of her.
Ming Shu glanced at him sideways: “The inheritance Grandpa intended for me was only a 2% stake. Your son gets not only absolute controlling interest but also 97 antiques and gold, plus two streets of shops in the east of the city.”
The adoptive father was beaming now that the business was settled. “It’s all negotiable, all negotiable.”
If the mall and surrounding facilities could be fully established, he would make at least nine figures. Compared to that, the Old Master’s fading company was simply not worth mentioning.
“Oh, right. Do you have eczema on your neck?” Only after finishing his mental calculations did the adoptive father bother to play the role of a caring relative.
“It’s not eczema. My girlfriend left it there.”
On the other side.
In the garden, Su Chuiyun leaned back in her wheelchair, basking in the sun.
Sister Chen: “What are you giggling about?”
Su Chuiyun thought to herself that being a “kept woman” was inherently happy. “Ming Shu looks so beautiful in a white dress. ‘To look pretty, wear all white’.”
Sister Chen: “Your eyes can see?”
Su Chuiyun: “I can feel it…” And kiss it too.
