The people nearby had heard their conversation, too.
“Exactly! Jing Mo’s so beautiful, and Chi Yan really doesn’t know what he’s got!” said a sweet-looking girl indignantly.
“Right, Shasha? You think my bestie’s gorgeous too, don’t you?” Guan Xue asked, raising an eyebrow at the girl named Shasha.
“Yeah! Jing Mo’s no ordinary beauty. If I were a guy, I’d compete with Chi Yan for her.” Shasha grinned.
Her words made everyone in the private room laugh.
Jing Mo laughed along. She’d realized that everyone here was pretty nice to her. Maybe they felt sorry for her!
Before long, Jing Mo was getting along with all of Guan Xue’s friends. She added everyone on WeChat, and Guan Xue pulled her into their group chat, too.
The moment Jing Mo joined, red envelopes started raining down in the chat.
Beaming, Jing Mo tapped them open one by one, then casually sent out a huge red envelope of her own.
Everyone in the private room eagerly scrambled to grab it.
The atmosphere was great, and Jing Mo drank quite a lot. In the end, she and Guan Xue started dancing to the music.
The music in the private room was deafening. Jing Mo used to go clubbing and dance all the time, and she’d brought those skills with her. Her sinuous moves left everyone in the room staring.
When the song ended, Guan Xue looked at Jing Mo in amazement.
“Babe, I never knew you could move like that!”
Jing Mo smiled faintly. Wasn’t that just basic stuff?
“Chi Yan didn’t like it before, so I held back,” she said with a helpless shrug.
At that, Guan Xue pursed her lips.
“Honestly, you sacrificed so much for him.”
“And don’t get me started on how you used to dress. You’re gorgeous, but every day you dressed like some old spinster.” Guan Xue rolled her eyes.
Jing Mo could only sigh helplessly.
The book had said that Chi Yan deliberately wanted to embarrass Jing Mo, so he’d claimed he liked her to dress modestly.
The original Jing Mo had foolishly believed him. One dull-colored, sack-like outfit after another had found its way into her wardrobe. She’d thought Chi Yan didn’t want other people seeing her dressed too beautifully, when really he’d been deliberately making people call her dowdy.
“Don’t worry. That won’t happen again.” Jing Mo lifted her chin slightly.
With her stunning looks and figure, from now on she’d wear whatever made the biggest statement! Whatever was beautiful and sexy!
Guan Xue and the others pulled Jing Mo back onto the dance floor for a while longer. She drank quite a bit, too, until the room began to spin around her.
Once she was drunk, Jing Mo remembered that Guan Xue had said she’d bring her some male models today. Where were they? Where were the double-door male models with eight-pack abs?
“Xue’er, where are the male models?” Jing Mo asked, tugging at Guan Xue with bleary eyes.
Guan Xue quickly checked her phone.
“They’ll be here soon! I specifically found the hottest male models this time—eight of them! How’s that? Your bestie knows how to deliver, right?” Guan Xue looped an arm around Jing Mo’s and grinned, holding up eight fingers.
Jing Mo’s eyes lit up. “You sure do! You absolutely do!”
“Just wait and see,” Guan Xue said, then went back to dancing.
Jing Mo had drunk a lot and was feeling a little dizzy. She decided to step outside for some air, in case the male models arrived and she couldn’t handle them.
She told Guan Xue she was going out, then left the private room.
Sure enough, the moment she stepped outside, she felt a little better.
Swaying, Jing Mo headed for the stairs. Guan Xue had told her there was a nice rooftop terrace on the second floor, and she wanted to go up and rest.
She found the staircase leading to the second floor and followed the spiral steps up.
There were plenty of private rooms on the second floor, too. Jing Mo squinted hard to make out which way to go, then headed forward.
She staggered along, her high heels seemingly beyond her control.
At last, she reached the room at the very end of the second floor. The terrace was right beside it, and she planned to sit out there for a while and sober up.
But, as luck would have it, one of her heels gave out just then. The heel snapped off, and after drinking so much, Jing Mo could barely control her body.
Just as she was about to hit the floor, she grabbed the doorknob of the room at the end of the hall, catching herself.
Clinging to the knob, Jing Mo struggled to stand. But when she pulled hard, the knob turned downward and the door swung open.
With the door open, Jing Mo’s unsteady body lurched right along with it, tumbling into the room.
She landed awkwardly on the soft carpet, and the fall made her head spin.
Fortunately, there was thick carpeting in here. Otherwise, she would have hurt herself.
Grinding her teeth, Jing Mo staggered to her feet.
The fall had left her feeling awful. She forgot all about going out to the terrace and shakily groped her way toward the sofa.
She needed to rest for a bit. As soon as she found the sofa, Jing Mo collapsed onto it.
Lying there, she closed her eyes and took a few breaths, then opened them again.
The lights in the private room were dim. Jing Mo lay on the sofa, eyes half-open and bleary, looking around.
Suddenly, she felt as if she’d seen a ghost.
There were people in the room!
Jing Mo was lying on the sofa with her head tilted back, and she saw a blurry figure on the sofa opposite.
She was so startled she nearly let out a scream, and half her drunkenness vanished.
After taking a few deep breaths, she focused. It wasn’t a ghost at all. It was a person. Jing Mo narrowed her eyes, carefully sat up, and looked toward him.
He was sitting in the dark, a glass of wine in his hand, drinking in a languid, unhurried way. The dim light lent him an air of mystery.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know anyone was in here. I’ve had too much to drink.” Jing Mo figured she owed him an apology for barging into his space.
The hand that had been swirling his wineglass went still. He let out a soft laugh. “You’re pretty good at using your charms.”
Jing Mo’s eyes lit up.
He’d spoken, and his voice was lovely!
Too bad what he’d said wasn’t.
What did he mean?
Was he saying she’d come here on purpose to get close to him?
At the thought, Jing Mo laughed in irritation.
Who did he think he was?
Had he read too many CEO romance novels?
That was exactly what Jing Mo said. “Well, excuse me, handsome. What makes you think you’re such a big shot?”
As she spoke, Jing Mo swayed to her feet and headed toward him.
She’d already had plenty to drink, and now his insulting remark had her annoyed.
She was a legendary heartbreaker, and today she was going to see what this guy looked like if he dared to say something like that. Let’s see whether I can win you over!
By the time the thought crossed her mind, Jing Mo had reached him.
Unable to see clearly, Jing Mo bent down and leaned closer. In the dim room, she could make out only a rough outline.
But even that vague outline was enough to leave her dazzled.
“Well, handsome, you’ve got a lot going for you,” she remarked. They said alcohol gave cowards courage, and Jing Mo was the sort of person who’d always been especially bold anyway.
The man’s lips twitched at her words.
Jing Mo muttered something under her breath and reached toward the seated man.
Before she could touch him, a large, cool hand closed around hers.
