The seated woman also looked at Yun Su apologetically.

“I’m really sorry, I was too careless. The medical room is quite far from here, so I was wondering if we’ve disturbed you.”

Of course Yun Su did not mind. They were only sharing a table, and the couple had been very polite.Full novel: After Transmigrating into a Novel: The Villain Holds My Waist and Calls Me Sister — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“It’s fine. Please make yourselves comfortable.”

Yun Su glanced at the woman’s ankle and noticed a large bruise forming.

It looked somewhat similar to Gu Yan’s previous leg injury, reminding Yun Su that she still had Gu Yan’s medicine in her bag.

Since this lady might be able to use it, Yun Su suggested, “I have some medicine here that my younger brother used before. It looks suitable for an injury like yours. Would you like to use some first?”

The man looked pleasantly surprised.

“That would be wonderful. Thank you so much!”

Yun Su took the medicine out of her bag, handed it to them, and explained the order in which it should be applied.

After receiving the medicine, the man crouched down to treat his wife’s ankle, gently coaxing her as he worked.

“My dear, bear with it for a moment. It won’t hurt soon.”

Judging from their age, Yun Su guessed they had probably been married for many years. Yet she had not expected them to still be so affectionate, interacting like a young couple deeply in love.

The woman seemed embarrassed by her husband’s behavior and smiled shyly at Yun Su.

“You must think we’re being silly.”

Yun Su smiled indifferently. Turning back to Gu Yan, she resumed eating with him and deliberately avoided looking at the couple so they would not feel uncomfortable.

Gu Yan remained quiet the entire time.

He had never been enthusiastic toward strangers.

When the couple had first approached to ask whether they could share the table, he had simply observed that he did not dislike them and exchanged a few words.

He had told them that he was waiting for his sister to return with their food and that they were welcome to sit down.

After Yun Su and Gu Yan finished eating, the couple returned the medicine and thanked her again.

Yun Su repeatedly assured them it was nothing. However, after taking back the medicine, she hesitated briefly before pushing it back toward them.

“If you don’t mind, you can keep it. My younger brother won’t need it anymore.”

Turning around, Yun Su asked Gu Yan, “Xiao Yan, your leg doesn’t hurt anymore, right?”

“Sister, it doesn’t hurt anymore. I don’t need the medicine anymore,” Gu Yan answered obediently.

The woman accepted the medicine and sighed emotionally.

“We were really lucky to meet you today.”

Yun Su smiled. “I’m glad we could help.”

The woman glanced at Gu Yan before saying to Yun Su, “Your little brother is so well-behaved. He’s in kindergarten already, isn’t he?”

“Yes, he is. I brought him out to have some fun since it’s the weekend.”

“The two of you must be very close.”

Yun Su merely smiled without responding.

She had no intention of explaining to a stranger that Gu Yan was not her biological younger brother.

To her surprise, Gu Yan suddenly spoke.

“Sister is the person who treats me best.”

The woman smiled at him and teased gently, “Then what about your father and mother? Aren’t they good to you too?”

“I don’t have a father or a mother.”

The woman’s expression froze in shock.

She had never expected such an answer.

The siblings’ clothing and appearance suggested they came from a wealthy family. They looked like children raised in a harmonious household with comfortable circumstances.

Could it be that this young sister was supporting her younger brother all by herself?

However, she realized she had already crossed a line and naturally would not continue questioning him.

Looking guilty, she said to Gu Yan, “I’m sorry, little one. I was too intrusive…”

Gu Yan shook his head nonchalantly.

“It’s okay. You didn’t know.”

Yun Su studied Gu Yan’s expression. Whenever the topic of his parents came up, he genuinely seemed indifferent.

She could understand why.

As far as Gu Yan was concerned, he had never met his father. Having no father was hardly different from having one.

As for his mother, all she had ever brought him was pain. Her absence had, in some ways, become a form of relief.

Yun Su stroked Gu Yan’s head and addressed the woman across from them.

“Please don’t worry about it, Mrs. Gu.”

“In that case, let me treat this little friend to some ice cream as thanks for the medicine.”

By then, the restaurant had gradually become less crowded, and only a few people remained in line at the ice cream stand.

“Gu Zhou, hurry and line up to buy some ice cream for the child,” Mrs. Gu instructed her husband.

Her husband immediately stood up and went off without hesitation, carrying out her request with remarkable efficiency.

Before Yun Su could even object, he had already disappeared.

With no other choice, she continued waiting.

She found that Mrs. Gu seemed particularly fond of Gu Yan. Coincidentally, they even shared the same surname.

Thinking of this, Yun Su said, “What a coincidence. My younger brother’s surname is Gu too, just like your husband’s.”

Mrs. Gu looked surprised.

“Really? Then we truly are quite fated.”

After Gu Yan finished his ice cream, Yun Su bid farewell to the couple and left the restaurant.

The small incident during lunch did not affect their enthusiasm for the rest of the day.

They spent the afternoon enjoying several more attractions until Yun Su became too exhausted to walk another step.

After sitting down to rest for a while, they prepared to head back to the parking lot and drive home.

The moment Yun Su stood up, her phone rang.

She answered the call.

“Hello, is this Miss Yun? This is the Public Security Bureau. I’m calling to inform you that Gu Jian’an’s case has been concluded. The couple has been sentenced to six years in prison for child trafficking. Therefore, Gu Yan’s guardianship situation now needs to be addressed. May I ask when you would be available to bring Gu Yan in?”

Upon hearing the news, Yun Su instinctively glanced at Gu Yan, who was currently looking up at her.

Needs to be addressed…

Which meant Gu Yan would be taken away.

He could no longer remain by her side.

Yun Su walked farther away, making sure Gu Yan could not overhear her conversation, before carefully replying,

“Would next week be okay? I’ll bring him over next Friday.”

After ending the call, Yun Su let out a quiet breath of relief.

Fortunately, they had agreed.

She wanted to find an appropriate opportunity to tell Gu Yan about it, but for the moment, she had no idea how to begin.

She also had no idea how Gu Yan would react, or whether a child his age could understand such unavoidable circumstances.

Even if Yun Su could stay in this world forever, her age did not meet the requirements for adoption.

There was simply no way Gu Yan could continue living with her indefinitely.

After composing herself, Yun Su took Gu Yan’s hand and continued walking toward the parking lot.

“Sister, whose call was that? Are you unhappy?”

Yun Su was surprised by how perceptive Gu Yan was. He had seen right through her.

“It’s nothing. Just grown-up matters. Sister will take care of it. Are you tired after playing all day? Why don’t you take a nap in the back seat? We’ll be home soon.”

Yun Su did not want Gu Yan to know about it so soon.

At the very least, she wanted him to enjoy a few more carefree days, and she also needed time to think about how she should tell him.

Yun Su drove them home.

After all, Gu Yan was still a child. While he had been energetic throughout the day’s activities, exhaustion had finally caught up with him, and he had already fallen asleep in the back seat.

When they arrived home, Yun Su gently woke him.

Still drowsy, Gu Yan followed her into the house.

Once inside, he gradually became more alert. Sitting on the sofa, his dark eyes shone brightly.

“Sister, I had so much fun today. Will you always spend time with me like this in the future?”
