Tang Huan turned and tried to leave.

She had come to send someone off—not to listen to such cutting words.

“Stop right there!” Tang Yuan Dao hadn’t expected that even after reaching the ward door, Tang Huan still wouldn’t soften her tone. His gaze flicked meaningfully toward Meng Zeyan. “Both of you, come in. I have something to say.”Full novel: After Transmigrating into an ’80s Novel, the Socially Anxious Beauty Is Pampered by a Military Officer — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

But Tang Huan had no intention of listening. She kept walking without even pausing.

Naturally, Meng Zeyan followed her out as well.

“Tang Huan, Tang Shuo called looking for you. Don’t you want to know how he’s doing?” Tang Yuan Dao frowned deeply, a deep crease forming between his brows. His daughter was becoming more and more disobedient. If it weren’t for Tang Shuo constantly asking about her, he wouldn’t even bother.

At the mention of “Tang Shuo,” Tang Huan stopped.

Tang Shuo?

The original owner’s brother had the same name as her own brother from her previous life—also called Tang Shuo.

There were already too many strange overlaps between her and the original owner: appearance, birthday, even the brother’s name.

So it really was only that name that worked.

Seeing her pause, Tang Yuan Dao immediately said, “Come in. I have something to tell you two.”

Tang Huan hesitated and turned back.

A nearby ward door quietly cracked open, the curiosity inside obvious.

Meng Zeyan noticed first and casually stepped over to close it.

Only then did Tang Huan realize this was a hospital corridor—it wasn’t appropriate to talk here.

In the end, the mention of Tang Shuo’s situation was too tempting. She returned to the ward entrance.

Tang Yuan Dao stepped aside to let them in.

Tang Huan walked in first. Meng Zeyan stayed by the door.

It wasn’t appropriate for him to enter.

“Come in too!” Tang Yuan Dao said unhappily.

After a few seconds of thought, considering how easily Tang Huan was bullied, Meng Zeyan stepped inside as well.

Once both were in, Tang Yuan Dao shut the door hard with his good hand and sat down on the bed with a long face.

Tang Huan stood just a couple steps inside the room. Meng Zeyan stood not far beside her.

Seeing the two of them keeping their distance, Tang Yuan Dao could no longer suppress his anger. He pointed at Meng Zeyan and shouted, “Tang Huan! If I hadn’t told Li Feng to find you, when were you planning to bring your husband to see me?”

For a moment, Tang Huan was confused.

Why would she bring Meng Zeyan to see him?

Then she quickly realized—he had misunderstood. He thought Meng Zeyan was her husband.

“He’s not my husband,” she hurried to explain.

Tang Yuan Dao sneered. “Not your husband? Then why did you bring him here to see me? Am I so worthless that I don’t even deserve to meet my son-in-law?”

To him, her explanation sounded like defiance.

His tone didn’t resemble a father talking to his daughter at all—it was more like hostility between enemies.

Thinking of all the original owner’s grievances over the years, anger surged in Tang Huan’s chest. Why did he get to speak to her like that? Did he feel no guilt at all?

“Turns out you do know how worthless you are?” she snapped back, her voice shaking with rage. “Do you even deserve to be a father? When Li Feng was harassing me, did you ever stop him? Did you know he was sexually harassing your daughter? You don’t deserve to be a father—you should go to hell! I didn’t come here to see you. I came to send you off!”

For older people, words like “go to hell” or “send you off” were especially harsh.

Tang Yuan Dao’s face instantly twisted with fury. He grabbed a jar from the bedside cabinet and hurled it at her.

“You unfilial daughter! What was the point of raising you!”

The glass jar flew straight toward her.

But before it could hit—

A large hand suddenly appeared, knocking it away.

The jar slammed to the ground and shattered into pieces, fragments scattering across the floor. Some shards even scratched Tang Huan’s leg.

The sweet smell of fruit syrup filled the room.

She glanced at the broken orange jar on the floor, then looked back at Tang Yuan Dao.

“If you already think raising me was useless,” she said coldly, “then don’t come looking for me again. Don’t let Li Feng come either. I have a husband—I’m not afraid of him.”

Tang Yuan Dao clutched his chest, coughing violently.

As he coughed, Tang Huan even found herself thinking coldly—could coughing kill someone? Would that count as suicide or homicide?

After more than two minutes, the coughing finally eased.

Tang Yuan Dao’s anger also subsided a little. He hadn’t come here to sever ties completely—he still wanted to repair the relationship.

“Huānhuān,” he said, switching tone, “your father did love you when you were little. Have you forgotten? About Li Feng—you think I didn’t warn him? I told him many times.”

“As for marrying you off to him, it was only because I wanted you close to me so I could protect you.”

“And the household register—I deliberately left it at home so you could find it. Otherwise, how could you have possibly married him?”

Hearing him twist the facts so shamelessly, Tang Huan once again witnessed how far someone could go in dishonesty.

When warnings don’t work, shouldn’t other measures be taken? Did he really think Li Feng would listen? Maybe he even thought he was being supported.

Marrying his daughter to a scumbag and calling it “protection”—what a joke.

If he had truly protected her even a little, the original owner wouldn’t have ended up secretly marrying after only meeting Meng Zeyu a few times.

As for the household register—it had been found by the original owner herself after searching through the house. It had nothing to do with him.

Arguing with someone shameless was pointless—he would always find a way to justify himself.

“I don’t want to argue with you,” she said coldly. “You said you had something about my brother—say it.”

Only then did Tang Yuan Dao reluctantly speak.

“Your brother said to call him. He has something to send you.”

He had wanted Tang Shuo to mail it directly, but Tang Shuo refused and insisted on speaking to her personally—even threatening not to support him in old age.

Thinking of that, Tang Yuan Dao grew even more annoyed.

“What’s the number?” she asked.

He pulled a slip of paper from under the pillow and handed it over.

“This is your brother’s number. I just spoke to him a few days ago. Call him later—not now. Don’t waste his time.”

She took it without hesitation and turned to leave.

“Huānhuān,” Tang Yuan Dao called after her, still unwilling to give up. “I will always be your father. If he ever mistreats you, come home.”

Home?

The original owner had no home.

And now, her home was the Meng family.

Without a word, she closed the door behind her.

Not a single extra glance was spared.

Holding the phone number, she looked down at it and said softly, “Let’s go.”

Meng Zeyan nodded and followed slightly behind her.

She walked out of the hospital without hesitation.

In her mind, she thought—if he were truly dying, sending Li Feng to fetch her might still make sense.

But he clearly wasn’t. It was just a minor injury, yet he preferred to send Li Feng instead of coming himself.

He didn’t care at all what would happen if Li Feng harassed her again.

Thinking of the original owner’s memories, Tang Huan felt a deep ache for the girl she had never even met.
