Mu Xiaoxiao sat on the bed in silence, staring at the pink surroundings, and let out a long, helpless sigh.
How could she be this unlucky? All she did was stay up late reading a novel, so how on earth had she ended up transmigrating into one? She had read so many books before, yet she had never transmigrated into something like a domineering CEO romance or a “rich heiress returns” story. Why did it have to be an apocalypse novel?
Although her current identity was also that of a wealthy young lady, she would not get to enjoy it for long.
In just one month, the apocalypse would arrive. Whether before or after transmigrating, she had always been a weak girl. She could barely handle watching horror movies, often taking weeks to recover from the fear. Now she was supposed to face zombies in real life. How was she supposed to survive that?
Mu Xiaoxiao collapsed back onto the bed, sprawled out in exhaustion, staring blankly at the ceiling. Since she was already here, what else could she do? Just accept it, she supposed.
She began sorting through the original owner’s memories. After all, as a supporting female character, there had not been much detail provided by the author.
The original Mu Xiaoxiao had just graduated from university. Her parents had died in a car accident during her college years, leaving behind a large family business that was now managed by her uncle’s family.
Fortunately, her uncle was not one of those greedy villains. He was fairly conscientious, ensuring that she lacked nothing in life. She received her rightful share of dividends, and even without working after graduation, she could comfortably live off her wealth. Her life had been as easy and carefree as one could imagine.
As for the female lead, she was Mu Xiaoxiao’s best friend. Her mother had once worked as the family’s cook but had passed away not long ago. The two girls had known each other since childhood, growing up together in the same villa.
The female lead worked at Mu Xiaoxiao’s company and still lived in the villa, staying at Mu Xiaoxiao’s request. After Mu Xiaoxiao’s parents died, her personality had become somewhat strange, and the female lead did not feel at ease leaving her alone.
Mu Xiaoxiao let out another long sigh. Since the heavens had already made her transmigrate into this novel, couldn’t she at least be given some kind of cheat ability? Otherwise, how could someone as useless as her keep relying on the female lead for protection? After all, in the original story, she never developed any powers before her death in the apocalypse.
Forget about systems or supernatural abilities, but at the very least, shouldn’t she have a storage space like everyone else? She had so much money to buy supplies, yet nowhere to store them. Even though the female lead had a space of her own, it was not hers, and that made her uneasy.
The female lead would need to go out and fight zombies at any time. Once she left, who knew how long she would be gone? Even if she brought Mu Xiaoxiao along, accidents could still happen.
Heavens, are you even listening to me?
Just as Mu Xiaoxiao voiced her final question, a flash suddenly appeared, and she found herself standing on a patch of grass. She got up in confusion, then quickly stood upright in surprise. Could it be that her cheat ability had finally arrived?
She looked around. There was a thatched hut, a well, and a single acre of barren land. There was also something resembling an altar, on which a wooden slip floated. The entire scene felt oddly familiar. Wasn’t this just like QQ Farm?
Mu Xiaoxiao walked over to the wooden slip and saw instructions written on it, asking her to pick it up and place it against her forehead to read.
She followed the instructions. As soon as the slip touched her forehead, an invisible force entered her mind. Within moments, she had absorbed all the information. It turned out to be a manual for the space, essentially an upgraded version of QQ Farm.
The altar-like structure transformed into a control panel. It displayed Level 0, along with a shop and various features that would unlock after leveling up, such as crops, animals, and processing facilities. As a seasoned QQ Farm player, she found the interface intuitive and easy to use.
Her coins were at zero, but fortunately, she was given ten seeds each of carrots, pasture grass, and white radishes. Mu Xiaoxiao planted them all at once, and the system showed that they would be ready for harvest in eight hours.
After finishing her tasks, she walked to the thatched hut and pushed the door open. The interior was simple: a wooden bed, a table, two long benches, a small kitchen, and a bathroom. Though modest, it had everything she needed.
From the outside, the hut looked small, but inside, it was quite spacious. There was even a storage room that could hold items within a 5×5 meter area, which would expand as the space leveled up. It seemed that in the coming days, her main focus would be purchasing supplies and upgrading the space.
With a thought, Mu Xiaoxiao exited the space and returned to her bed. She picked up her phone and checked the time. It was 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The female lead, Meng Yu, was still at work and would finish at 5:30. She was driving one of Mu Xiaoxiao’s cars anyway, and she owned several.
For now, Mu Xiaoxiao planned to rent a warehouse and buy essential supplies. At the right moment, she would tell Meng Yu to activate her space early, so they would have double protection. After all, her own space needed time to level up, while the female lead’s space was supposedly limitless.
Mu Xiaoxiao made a list on her phone of everything she needed to buy, then checked her bank balance. Seeing the long string of zeros, she was stunned.
One hundred million!
She had never imagined that one day she would have such an enormous sum of money to spend. Unfortunately, she could only enjoy it for one month.
After changing her clothes, Mu Xiaoxiao drove an SUV out. She first bought several maps, then rented a warehouse for a month.
Since it was already late, she decided not to start bulk purchasing supplies today. Instead, she would enjoy herself and experience all the things she had never tried before. She visited upscale shops, had snacks, and enjoyed afternoon tea, though she found that the taste was not much different from ordinary places. The lifestyle of the rich was truly hard to understand.
After eating and drinking her fill, she went shopping. She looked at luxury bags and clothes but ultimately decided not to buy anything. It did not feel worth it. Once the apocalypse came, she could simply take whatever she wanted for free.
When Meng Yu returned home after work, she noticed that Mu Xiaoxiao was not there, so she called her.
Mu Xiaoxiao glanced at her phone and saw Meng Yu’s name. It was already past 6 p.m., so she must have returned home and not found her.
“Hello, Sister Yu, what’s up?”
Hearing her voice, Meng Yu finally relaxed. “Xiaoxiao, where did you go? It’s already late, and you’re out alone. Be careful. When are you coming back? I can come pick you up.”
Listening to Meng Yu’s concerned tone, which sounded almost like a mother’s, Mu Xiaoxiao could not help but feel as though the female lead was her parent. “I’m out shopping. I drove myself, so there’s no need to pick me up. Have you eaten? Should I bring something back for you?”
“No need. I’ll just cook a bowl of noodles later. You should come back early after you’re done. Be careful while driving,” Meng Yu reminded her.
“Alright.”
After hanging up, Mu Xiaoxiao bought two cups of coffee to bring home. Tonight, she planned to go on a massive online shopping spree.
“I’m back,” Mu Xiaoxiao said as she entered.
Hearing the door, Meng Yu immediately came to greet her. “Are you tired? Next time, if you want to go out, you can wait for me, and we’ll go together.” She took the items from Mu Xiaoxiao’s hands as she spoke.
“I’m not tired. I bought two coffees, one for each of us,” Mu Xiaoxiao said with a smile.
Meng Yu frowned slightly. “Drinking coffee at night isn’t good. Do you not want to sleep properly?” Even as she spoke, she took out the cups, removed the seals, and handed one to Mu Xiaoxiao.
“I know, I’ll drink less.”
“You drink first. I’ll go run you a bath so you can relax.”
“No need, Sister Yu, I can do it myself,” Mu Xiaoxiao said quickly, feeling embarrassed.
“What’s wrong? Are you upset that I wasn’t home with you?” Meng Yu asked with a slightly hurt expression.
Mu Xiaoxiao felt speechless. The original owner had truly relied on Meng Yu for everything, treating her like a servant, practically useless herself. “I just thought you must be tired after work today, so I can take care of myself.”
“Oh, is that so? I’m not tired. Sit and rest, I’ll call you when the bath is ready,” Meng Yu said in a gentle, older sister tone.
“Alright, thank you, Sister Yu.” Some habits could not be changed overnight. She would take it one step at a time.
