“This is Zhao Kuo, my colleague.” Gu Qi explained to Lu Ruo, “Have you recalled the key details?”
As Gu Qi asked this, his eyes were fixed on the little calico cat in Lu Ruo’s arms, which was purring softly.
His gaze was deep and unreadable, revealing nothing of what was going through his mind.
Lu Ruo didn’t notice Gu Qi’s expression. She directly shared the information she had just obtained: “All I can say is that the person who put the bracelet and thumb ring in the trash works at the pet store—the one where Huahua got her bath. He has a black mole on his wrist, right here. Whether it’s flat or raised, I’m not entirely sure.”
“It’s flat.” Gu Qi said with certainty, a hint of surprise flashing across his handsome face.
After Lu Ruo had fainted, the little calico had been taken to the pet store by the Gu family’s bodyguards for a bath.
Intuition had told Gu Qi he should accompany the little cat. At the pet store, the calico wouldn’t accept the approach of strangers and kept hissing, so the staff member asked Gu Qi to go in and calm her down.
Once inside, Gu Qi immediately noticed that the male staff member had a very obvious flat mole on his wrist.
It matched exactly what Lu Ruo had just described.
Setting aside how Lu Ruo had obtained this information, catching the culprit was the top priority.
Gu Qi took out his phone and began issuing orders to his team.
“Tell the team members stationed at the alley entrance to keep an eye out. The suspect is approximately 1.63 meters tall, of slender build, with inverted triangular eyes, and a flat black mole about 7 millimeters in diameter on his wrist.” After briefing the team members in other locations, Gu Qi looked at Zhao Kuo. “Let’s go—we’ll pay the pet store a visit.”
With arrangements on both fronts, they could ensure nothing went wrong.
As Gu Qi and Zhao Kuo were leaving, Old Mrs. Gu happened to walk back into the hospital room.
“Ruo Ruo, these two are renowned oncologists from the province. Let’s do another full examination so we can finalize your treatment plan.”
“Grandmother Gu…” Lu Ruo called out to Old Mrs. Gu, but the words that followed were hard to say.
She already had the System’s help. The life force she was currently using was provided by the System, and her body was perfectly healthy. Another examination would simply be a waste of money.
But she couldn’t say that out loud—if she did, she’d be treated like some kind of freak.
Old Mrs. Gu didn’t know why Lu Ruo was hesitating. She assumed Lu Ruo had completely given up on treatment. Her voice full of concern, she said, “Ruo Ruo, let me tell you the truth. I’ve taken a real liking to you and want to take you in as my adopted granddaughter. Don’t worry about the cost of treatment—Grandma will make sure you get better.”
Lu Ruo hadn’t expected Old Mrs. Gu to say something like that.
She stared at Old Mrs. Gu in shock, then heard her add, “My late old man always wanted a girl too. On his deathbed, he said that if any of those brats ever gave him a great-granddaughter, they had to burn paper money and tell him all about it.”
“Ah.” Lu Ruo suddenly found a reason to decline. “He must have wanted a blood descendant of your family, but I’m not that. And I’m still someone on the verge of death…”
Not to mention, Grandmother Gu had only met her by chance. Even if Grandmother Gu would always treat her like a granddaughter, what about the rest of the Gu family?
“It doesn’t matter. Grandma just likes you, and that’s that—you’re going to be my granddaughter.” Old Mrs. Gu’s tone carried a willfulness that left no room for argument.
After saying this, the old lady stared at the little calico in Lu Ruo’s arms, and suddenly a brilliant idea struck her.
“Tell you what—go get the examination done first. Afterward, Grandma will have my chubby tabby brought over. Any stranger that cat is willing to get close to is someone who gets along with Grandma. If she likes you too, then you’ll be Grandma’s granddaughter. How about that?”
For such an important matter as taking on an adopted granddaughter, Old Mrs. Gu was actually going to leave the decision to her cat?
