Jiang Li still wanted to say something, but Chu Xiuyun stopped her. “Say less.”

Guo Ye looked at Wang Xin and was shocked again. Another beauty—soft, cute, and adorable. This family was truly lucky.

The four of them pushed the water towers out. Fortunately, they had been modified with wheels underneath; otherwise, no one would have been able to lift them. “Be careful when pushing. The water towers are very heavy. Don’t tip them over. We don’t have extra water to give you,” Shi Qiao reminded them.Full novel: After Waking Up in the Apocalypse, I Latched Onto a Big Shot and Lay Low — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Wang Xin glared fiercely at Wang Che. “Next time you randomly agree to give things away, you can leave with them and don’t come back. I’ll pretend I don’t have a brother.”

Wang Che felt exhausted. It was all because these two were too lazy to place online orders properly and didn’t want their loopholes exposed, so these four scapegoats couldn’t be allowed to die.

The group pushed the water away.

At the end, Jiang Li sweetly thanked Wang Che. “Thank you, Brother Che. I will definitely repay you. If you need anything, just tell me.”

Wang Che didn’t even bother responding and turned to go back inside. Fu Zhe directly shut the door, blocking the “bad energy” from entering.

The two girls weren’t in the living room. Lu Ning said, “They went back to their rooms angry. Said not to call them for dinner—they’re already full of anger.”

In reality, the two of them were hiding in a room eating snacks and ice cream. Normally, Fu Zhe strictly controlled Wang Xin and didn’t allow her to eat cold food.

Wang Xin happily sat shoulder-to-shoulder with Gu Cheng on the floor, eating ice cream and chicken feet while watching variety shows on a tablet. “Being with your bestie is the best. Men only interfere with our lazy lifestyle.”

Gu Cheng mercilessly exposed her. “When you’re glued to Fu Zhe, you smile so hard your teeth show. You forget your bestie completely.”

“Hey! You’re talking nonsense. Am I really that obvious?”

“Yeah. So obvious even a blind person could tell.”

“What about you and my brother? How’s that going?”

Gu Cheng froze. The chicken feet suddenly didn’t taste as good. “Me and your brother? There’s nothing at all. Even if your brother is handsome and rich… he’s way too scary.”

Wang Xin laughed wickedly. “Once you take him down, he won’t be scary anymore. He’s actually very careful. I grew up with him—my scientist parents are the unreliable ones.”

Gu Cheng thought for a moment. “Then what about you and Fu Zhe? How far have you two gone?”

Wang Xin rarely showed a troubled expression. “I don’t understand him. He’s clearly so good to me, but he just won’t confirm anything. I don’t know what he’s thinking.”

Gu Cheng sighed. “Your brother did ask me, but… it’s hard to explain. Just weird. Let’s not think about men. We’ll live our own lives well—that’s better than anything.”

Wang Xin laughed. “You’re right. Maybe we’ll even meet a handsome zombie king.”

“Ugh, stop it. Disgusting.”

That night, Chen Chuan went out to take out the trash and noticed a large number of insects and ants.

When he returned, he reported it immediately. “There are suddenly a lot of insects and ants outside. They’re moving in groups. It’s strange.”

Shi Qiao went out to check. “It’s true. There are some in the yard too, but outside it’s much worse—densely packed.”

Gu Cheng got goosebumps instantly and scratched her arm. “I’m most afraid of bugs. They won’t crawl in, will they?”

Shi Qiao shook his head. “Not sure. But when insects move in large groups like this, it usually means heavy rain or flooding is coming.”

Wang Che also thought of the same possibility. “Could acid rain be arriving earlier?”

Chen Chuan looked shocked. “Acid rain? What do you mean?”

Lu Ning also looked at Wang Che in confusion.

Wang Che decided there was no need to hide it anymore. “After the extreme heat, there will be acid rain, then zombies, then extreme cold.”

Chen Chuan felt a deep sense of dread. “This is a disaster of extinction…”

Wang Che patted his shoulder in comfort. Anyone would feel panic and confusion after hearing this. It needed time to digest.

“Fu Zhe, call the Elder and remind him. Gu Cheng, get some insect repellent and spray it around doors, windows, and corners.”

Gu Cheng trusted Chen Chuan’s judgment. Even though Lu Ning was still an unknown factor, they were already a team and had to face things together, so she didn’t hide anything. She directly took five bottles of spray from her Storage Space.

Both Chen Chuan and Lu Ning were stunned, then quickly calmed down. They didn’t ask anything and immediately went to spray the house.

Wang Che and Gu Cheng exchanged a look—both satisfied with their reactions.

The others also started spraying insect repellent.

That night, Gu Cheng couldn’t sleep because she was afraid of insects.

At around 3 a.m., the dim night sky was covered by thick clouds, and the world outside was swallowed by darkness.

Gu Cheng hurried to the window. Only two rooms in the villa across the way still had lights on. She was debating whether to wake Wang Che when she heard a drop of rain hit the window.

Then two drops. Three drops.

Her suspended heart finally sank.

She opened her door at the same time Wang Che opened his. He had also come to check on her the moment he heard the rain.

Unexpectedly, everyone else also opened their doors.

Gu Cheng smiled weakly and went downstairs first.

The villa was brightly lit. She filled the kitchen with food. Empty rooms were stacked with water. The basement was filled with firearms and weapons. The gym was stocked with medicine and daily necessities. Each wardrobe in every room was packed with clothes.

In the parking area, she placed a fuel tanker, a camper van, four off-road vehicles, and motorcycles—all loaded with supplies and water.

The entire villa was filled to the brim.

Everyone had complicated expressions. Only Chen Chuan and Lu Ning looked confused.

Fu Zhe couldn’t bear it and explained, “Acid rain means people may awaken abilities or turn into zombies. Gu Cheng knows we’ll awaken abilities—but she herself is uncertain.”

Gu Cheng smiled indifferently and looked at Lu Ning. “You’re also uncertain. There’s a chance you could turn into a zombie. Because it came early, we don’t know when things might change. I’ll leave ten days of food and water in your room. You should lock yourselves inside—zombies can’t open doors on their own.”

She then went upstairs.

Wang Xin followed and hugged her tightly. “Chengcheng, you’ll be fine.”

Gu Cheng patted her back. “I believe I won’t be that unlucky either. Stop crying—it’s ugly.”

Although confused, Lu Ning still obediently followed her upstairs and returned to her room. Before entering, she looked back at Chen Chuan. “Brother, thank you for bringing me out. You must be safe.”

Chen Chuan patted her head. “Silly girl. Those who survive hardship will have blessings later. We’ve made it this far—we’ll be fine. I’ll wait for you.”

Gu Cheng left supplies for the siblings and gave them space.

She hugged each of her companions. “Come on, why does it feel like I’m going off to war? Don’t be so serious. I’ll be fine.”

Then Wang Che pulled her into his room, closed the door, and held her in his arms for a long time without speaking.

Gu Cheng felt a little emotional and choked up slightly. “You promised me—if anything happens… finish it quickly and cleanly. I don’t want to become ugly.”

Wang Che buried his face in her neck, breathing in her familiar scent. “Mm. You also promised to be my girlfriend. Don’t forget.”

“When did I promise that?”

“You just did.”

Gu Cheng had never seen him so shameless before and pushed him out of the room.
